Oh? Really? Are you on a Windows OS right now? Without Windows, the current day Macintosh would never exist. YOU'D still have to be using DOS. Dr. Gates was practically the only man willing to convert the DOS into a basic OS. He never thought it would be as big as it is today. Dr. Gates EARNED everything that he has today. if he want's his own Secret Service, he earned it with his earned money. Perhaps you're the greedy one, because you don't wish to give him the credit he deserves...
I'm not disputing what you're saying, but for perspective we'd better remember that Windows didn't introduce the Windows-Icons-Mouse-Pointer paradigm (WIMP), it only popularized it with the phenomenal success of Windows 3.x.
Although I'm an Apple basher from way back it's important to note that Apple invented that (go Google Lisa, predates Win 3.x by a long shot).
So, without Microsoft we wouldn't have Windows - but we wouldn't be stuck in DOS either. We'd be in a much lower quality Mac or GNU.
Bill Gates has saved millions of lives through his philanthropic endeavors. He has one of the worlds largest charitable organizations, and is leaving pretty much all of his money to charity. His work in education and medical research is HUGE! He is a very busy person, and does not spend all his time "sittin on his ass all day," as you so elequantly put it. While your'e complaining about the price of a luxury item, he is spending billions on getting medical attention to dieing children worldwide.
But he is/was the head of a large corporation and as such he has to think twice about everything he says so that he doesn't trip himself up or give away the farm. I have seen this same thing in meetings with the heads of large film studios when they are having to cover themselves because the are sitting on a pack of lies
