The American Pacific War was just a simple outbreak, not even considered a war, rather small island-hopping skirmishes that in comparison with the Eastern Front seemed like children lego battles. More Japs were killed in 1939 by swift Soviet maneuvering in Mongolia than the Americans managed to kill within 3 years. Now the Americans joined the European Theater in June of 1944, less than a year before the closing of the war.

...iii) UK would probably have been knocked out of the war by late 1941/early 1942 if the US Navy had not helped with the Atlantic convoys, and iv) D-Day could not have happened without American, British and Commonwealth forces - none could have made D-Day a success alone. Put together all the PTO battles fought either exclusively at sea, and all the islands and you don´t come even close to the number of men and machines that fought in the ETO. The most brutal battle on any island on the Pacific is the equivalent of a skirmish between the Germans and the Soviets.

The Soviet offensive was HUGE,deploying 3 army groups; the Soviets not only steam-rolled over the Japs, killing a huge number and capturing several hundreds of thousands, but also when the fight was over, they mopped up everything Japanese established in Manchuria, civilian and military alike. You didn´t fuck with the Soviets, and they were absolutely brutal on the Japs after the fight as well.

And they also raped and pillaged the Chinese who they where supposedly supposed to be liberating. It was the US that had to fight the Japs in the jungles and islands where they where the most powerful and it was the US who destroyed their navy the most powerful in the world at the start of the war.

Not only that, but France was totally unprepared for "Blitzkrieg" warfare. They were still thinking WWI.

The American Pacific War was just a simple outbreak, not even considered a war, rather small island-hopping skirmishes that in comparison with the Eastern Front seemed like children lego battles. More Japs were killed in 1939 by swift Soviet maneuvering in Mongolia than the Americans managed to kill within 3 years. Now the Americans joined the European Theater in June of 1944, less than a year before the closing of the war.

America landed in North Africa in '42 and Sicily and Italy in '43 and fought the Germans there. And just as many lives where lost per square foot in the pacific then on the eastern front. Idiot. Don't even try arguing if you don't know what you are talking about.

The American involvement in the Sicilian invasion was minor; everybody knows the entire operation was spearheaded by Commonwealth forces, just as in Africa. Either way, both of these engagements didn't even qualify as a Front. And I was only mentioning the first 3 years from 1941 - Okinawa was '45, and I wasn't talking about the defeat of the Kwantung Army in '45 either (where over 1 million Japanese surrendered/KIA), I was talking about Soviet operations in Mongolia in 1939!

Hitler pulled vital troops out of the Battle of Kursk to reinforce Italy because he was more afraid of an allied breakthrough there then on the Eastern front. There is testimony from German vets who state that fighting Americans in the mountains of Italy was WORSE than combat in Russia! Russians got 600,00 POWS (not a million) because JAPAN SURRENDERED.

@m1rock : Ummm...are you trying to compare Okinawa with any battle on the Eastern Front? Byalistok-Minsk? Vyazma-Briansk? Kiev? Stalingrad? Kursk? Leningrad Siege? Operation Bagration? Put together all the PTO battles fought either exclusively at sea, and all the islands and you don´t come even close to the number of men and machines that fought in the ETO. The most brutal battle on any island on the Pacific is the equivalent of a skirmish between the Germans and the Soviets.

And if you dont think the pacific got as nasty as on the Eastern front..just imagine what monsoon rains, mud, and tropical heat do to piles of corpses as opposed to the cold winters of the eastern front. Sure the numbers where much smaller due to the smaller scale of the war but When your on a small island there isnt allot of room to stack or avoid the dead.

The Soviet offensive was HUGE,deploying 3 army groups; the Soviets not only steam-rolled over the Japs, killing a huge number and capturing several hundreds of thousands, but also when the fight was over, they mopped up everything Japanese established in Manchuria, civilian and military alike. You didn´t fuck with the Soviets, and they were absolutely brutal on the Japs after the fight as well.

And they also raped and pillaged the Chinese who they where supposedly supposed to be liberating. It was the US that had to fight the Japs in the jungles and islands where they where the most powerful and it was the US who destroyed their navy the most powerful in the world at the start of the war.

If they didn´t surrender, Soviet doctrine indicated keep pounding them until they are annihilated. @tanello2 Poland did not loose WW2. According to history, it was part of the allies, having the 4th largest army in the coalition against Hitler. Poland never surrendered to Germany during the war and fought around the world against the axis under the Polish Government in exile.

The Polish war effort fought in Africa, during Hitler's invasion on the Soviet union, and Poland had the largest underground war effort to date. While until the liberation, Poland was not under Soviet rule after the invasion it was under complete Nazi rule and after 1945 Poland became a communist state You learn history!

However - you are ignoring the Polish contribution that they had the 3rd largest army of the European Allies (After the USSR and UK) and fought even when Poland was under occupation. Do you mean the Ardennes Forest? If so, I don't think so. I think the French defended their "grand" state-of-the-art Maginot line of forts, along the German border, thinking that was enough. Of course, the Germans decided that a frontal attack on an, admittedly impregnable line of forts, was not to their liking, so they swung north through the Lowlands. Not only that, but France was totally unprepared for "Blitzkrieg" warfare. They were still thinking WWI.

@rocknmetaldisciples: No only on Navy Ships, they were relegated to the Pacific....After the "Doggie Army" made a series of amphibious landings the Honchos decided to use the Marines as well....I think the Corps was better than the Army at this, and that was and is their job...and they do it very well...Killed lots of Japanese and were not shy about assaulting impossible objectives!!
