Look like it works, but it doesn't. You will waste 2hrs backup and copy. MapInfo says you have the latest. Correct, but wrong. View map shows old road setup. Search for new store, simply can't find it, it still using old POI database.

Hi i've downloaded the Europe Maps. There are about 31 files seperate totalling 3.79 GB. Winzip files. Do i need to unzip or anything before i try to transfer to the Garmin? Dont want to mess it up... Thankyou

Why does it say that I am unable to copy the new file because there is not enough free space? I have a nuvi 265, copied and deleted the old file (1.09GB file size), yet the space on my nuvi hard drive stayed the same? It says I have only 691 mB of space left. How can that be when I just deleted an over 1 GB file? Now I can't even restore the original gmapprom.img file back to my Garmin device, so my nuvi is useless. HELP!!!!!!!!
My nuvi 1310 does not have the .img file in it to be replaced with the torrent one. A source told me to make a Map folder and put the file in there. Any ideas??

What if the gmapprom.img is hidden? I can see that the capacity of the garmin is about 1.5 GB and only 5MB free. I am showing hidden files in the windows folder options. I would prefer to use the memory built in on the garmin instead of having to put an SD card.

@gmsllc Hey there u need to enable hidden folder, but also need to select option to enable os hidden files (I couldn't see that system folder until I enabled the 2nd option).
@cervj69 The option is hide protected operating system files. Once u uncheck this u will see the folder and files, just remember to re-enable this option when u are done.
Hi - I did the first 2 steps of connection & was able to do a explore on my GPS garmin 1390 nuvi GPS..but i do not see gmapprom.img file ??. I tried to unhide all the files via the browser. Also did a search for all files > 500MB ..but did not find any. However when i right click the nuvi icon for the GPS it shows me 1.52G as the used space...Please help. Thanks.
Honestly these rich as shit pricks should give any life threatening updates for free. I should not have to worry about some 17 year old who suddenly come's head on to say Roosevelt Boulevard (and the "occasional" 10 changes per year) I mean if were both fried who caused the crash? Philadelphia is real bad with sometimes changing road directions to accommodate new roads and developments, these kind of updates are beyond charging for.
I updated my 680w bought 3 years ago, following this video step by step.
It is very important to do some room (delete foreign language data) on the GPS memory to make some room for the new update.
I have already installed on my Garmin some maps from South America , and I want to keep it , so I deleted the French, Australian , Netherlands, Arabic, etc. voice data to make some room.
When I downloaded the torrent and it unpacked itself all I got was a load of unpacked img files of languages and then a list of Garmin western europe NT 2012.20 unlocked img.part001 as far as Garmin western europe NT 2012.20 unlocked img.part008 which are all winzip files, when i try open them with winzip all i get is a gmapsupp which is also a winzip file, any suggestions on what to do?
Hey thanks for posting this video! I've downloaded the European Map and it's downloaded in five different parts. How can I add these onto the Garmin as it won't let me rename each individual file to the same name as the existing file on the satnav. Also, my computer isn't recognising the format. The existing 'GMAPPROM' file on the garmin is 'windows disc image burner', how do I convert the download to this format, do I need to download the Magic Video Converter as per your torrent video? Thanks for this procedure! It also works perfectly under a Linux system as well. The device just mounts up as any USB file system and use the same procedure as shown. Be sure to "eject" the device before unplugging it.
@linuxfan50 also 1 other note, in addition to the extra voice files, I also deleted the "non-spoken" language files/folders from the Help dir as well which freed some additional space.

Okay, I uninstalled the old gmapprom again and reinstalled the new one. Instead of unplugging, I used "Safely Remove Hardware". Everything seems to be working great now! Don't know if that was the problem, but if anyone else has the same issue, maybe give it a try!
After trying many options, and still getting the "No Data Available" message, I decided to take the update off and put the old gmapprom file on (that I had backed up on my computer). Now, with the old file back on the device, it STILL says "No Data Available". I apparently have lost my map. Tools>Settings>Map and "Map Info" is grayed out. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

I ran into an issue maybe someone can help? I did everything said but every time I'm almost finished loading the new map to the Garmin it disconnects from PC mode. Then my GPS works but doesn't find cities or streets or anything except favorites and such. You can view the map and all the streets are there, but no guided directions. Any ideas?

This is great. Upgraded my nuvi 250 maps perfectly. What wasn't on the video was that I had to download Supernzb to decompress the rar files I got from thepiratebay. Then I had to dowload Gmap tool to combine the 8 western europe files into one map. Took quite a time to work all that out, but once I'd done it I was there. Thanks.
@MrDae006 it's in the system file, by default it's hidden. open folder option, select view, uncheck "hide protected system files", then you will see that system file in your garmin folder.

I have an garmin 255 and I tried to update it and it say that no detailed map can be found that support routing and the garmin does not work. I imported all four files and replaced them with the same names.
Problem i went got the 2 gig memory card for my nuvi 200 i was gone the garmin got disconnected, so now what is on my screen on the garmin is a message that says "No detailed maps found that support routing. the nuvi cannot be used without them." I need that screen to go away so i can put my code in to unlock the damn thing so i can put the new map on it. when i go to open the shortcut i created for the garmin it wont open because the stupid thing is locked. Tell me there is something i can do.

What do you do with the gmapbmap on 2012. Do I have to delete the gmapbmap AND the gmapprom and replace them with the new ones from the 2012 torrent or do I replace only gmapprom and not worry bout the others at all?
The maps are copyrighted. Downloading for free is an infringement of copyright and ILLEGAL. It is stealing, no different than shoplifting a GPS unit. I agree that Garmin charges 3-4 times more than they should, but that does not make copyright infringement okay. Think this out ... if everyone illegally downloads the map updates for free, the mapmakers will have no incentives to create new expensive digital maps, then no updates will be available at all. Stealing is not an option.
So I was doing this process thingy, and everything was going all fine and dandy, until I tried to squish the new map file into the Garmin file. It said there wasn't enough space. I thought "Oh well, I'll just delete more language based things." So I went through the Text, Help, EULA, etc and deleted all of the languages that I don't speak, and lookie there, not enough space still =/ And then I tried to put the old maps in it, and there wasn't enough space! Help, please!
Just did this on my nuvi 255w and it worked great. I have no experience with stuff like this, i even had to watch the torrent video you linked but it all worked. I didn't even have to rename the file before transferring it. Thanks for the help.

If you're having a problem finding the gmapprom file, it's in a hidden folder ".system" not "garmin".

hello, In the 2012 folder, there is also gmaptz, gmapbmap, GMAP3D and D3060020A.JCV.
What are those for? do we need them?

Hi - I did the first 2 steps of connection & was able to do a explore on my GPS garmin 1390 nuvi GPS..but i do not see gmapprom.img file ??. I tried to unhide all the files via the browser. Also did a search for all files > 500MB ..but did not find any. However when i right click the nuvi icon for the GPS it shows me 1.52G as the used space...Please help. Thanks.

Honestly these rich as shit pricks should give any life threatening updates for free. I should not have to worry about some 17 year old who suddenly come's head on to say Roosevelt Boulevard (and the "occasional" 10 changes per year) I mean if were both fried who caused the crash? Philadelphia is real bad with sometimes changing road directions to accommodate new roads and developments, these kind of updates are beyond charging for.

I updated my 680w bought 3 years ago, following this video step by step.
It is very important to do some room (delete foreign language data) on the GPS memory to make some room for the new update.
I have already installed on my Garmin some maps from South America , and I want to keep it , so I deleted the French, Australian , Netherlands, Arabic, etc. voice data to make some room.

When I downloaded the torrent and it unpacked itself all I got was a load of unpacked img files of languages and then a list of Garmin western europe NT 2012.20 unlocked img.part001 as far as Garmin western europe NT 2012.20 unlocked img.part008 which are all winzip files, when i try open them with winzip all i get is a gmapsupp which is also a winzip file, any suggestions on what to do?

Hey thanks for posting this video! I've downloaded the European Map and it's downloaded in five different parts. How can I add these onto the Garmin as it won't let me rename each individual file to the same name as the existing file on the satnav. Also, my computer isn't recognising the format. The existing 'GMAPPROM' file on the garmin is 'windows disc image burner', how do I convert the download to this format, do I need to download the Magic Video Converter as per your torrent video? Thanks!

Thanks for this procedure! It also works perfectly under a Linux system as well. The device just mounts up as any USB file system and use the same procedure as shown. Be sure to "eject" the device before unplugging it.

@linuxfan50 also 1 other note, in addition to the extra voice files, I also deleted the "non-spoken" language files/folders from the Help dir as well which freed some additional space.

Okay, I uninstalled the old gmapprom again and reinstalled the new one. Instead of unplugging, I used "Safely Remove Hardware". Everything seems to be working great now! Don't know if that was the problem, but if anyone else has the same issue, maybe give it a try!

After trying many options, and still getting the "No Data Available" message, I decided to take the update off and put the old gmapprom file on (that I had backed up on my computer). Now, with the old file back on the device, it STILL says "No Data Available". I apparently have lost my map. Tools>Settings>Map and "Map Info" is grayed out. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

I used this a few months back and it worked great. Now I'm trying to update my other GPS and it has both European and North American maps on it. I only see one gmapprom file so I'm assuming somehow both the NA and Europe maps are in one file?
How would I update both NA and Europe on one device?

"No Data Available" when I try to enter an address and Points of Interest only has option to Spell Name, which also says "No Data Available". Therefore, I only have access to addresses that are saved in my favorites. Help, please!

I ran into an issue maybe someone can help? I did everything said but every time I'm almost finished loading the new map to the Garmin it disconnects from PC mode. Then my GPS works but doesn't find cities or streets or anything except favorites and such. You can view the map and all the streets are there, but no guided directions. Any ideas?

Any suggestions on good files to delete? I deleted all the extra Voice files like instructed but still need some space.
Error Message - There is not enough space on Garmin nuvi. You need an additional 64.7 MB to copy these files.
Just don't want to delete anything that is necessary to run the Garmin. Any help would be appreciated.

This is great. Upgraded my nuvi 250 maps perfectly. What wasn't on the video was that I had to download Supernzb to decompress the rar files I got from thepiratebay. Then I had to dowload Gmap tool to combine the 8 western europe files into one map. Took quite a time to work all that out, but once I'd done it I was there. Thanks.

@MrDae006 it's in the system file, by default it's hidden. open folder option, select view, uncheck "hide protected system files", then you will see that system file in your garmin folder.

ok so listen u know how garmin gives u a free map in the beginning right thats up to date now can't u go into the garmin filefolder take the old map out put it on your desktop go to garmin plug in your garmin.now heres the question want garmin see your gps as a new update & download the new map?

Problem i went got the 2 gig memory card for my nuvi 200 i was gone the garmin got disconnected, so now what is on my screen on the garmin is a message that says "No detailed maps found that support routing. the nuvi cannot be used without them." I need that screen to go away so i can put my code in to unlock the damn thing so i can put the new map on it. when i go to open the shortcut i created for the garmin it wont open because the stupid thing is locked. Tell me there is something i can do.

The maps are copyrighted. Downloading for free is an infringement of copyright and ILLEGAL. It is stealing, no different than shoplifting a GPS unit. I agree that Garmin charges 3-4 times more than they should, but that does not make copyright infringement okay. Think this out ... if everyone illegally downloads the map updates for free, the mapmakers will have no incentives to create new expensive digital maps, then no updates will be available at all. Stealing is not an option.

So I was doing this process thingy, and everything was going all fine and dandy, until I tried to squish the new map file into the Garmin file. It said there wasn't enough space. I thought "Oh well, I'll just delete more language based things." So I went through the Text, Help, EULA, etc and deleted all of the languages that I don't speak, and lookie there, not enough space still =/ And then I tried to put the old maps in it, and there wasn't enough space! Help, please!

Garmin wanted $69 for the French update, so I went and bought a new unit with all the European maps for - $69... Seems a bit mental!
One point though, as the unit was new in October 2011, the currency conversion rates said last updated June 2007... equally as stupid!

Just did this on my nuvi 255w and it worked great. I have no experience with stuff like this, i even had to watch the torrent video you linked but it all worked. I didn't even have to rename the file before transferring it. Thanks for the help.
