Yep, especially at that time, there was no gaurd wall in the pit lane at Le Mans. You wouldn't want to get out into Le Mans traffic...

@ottocars You are close with the clock wise thing, but the turns have nothing to do with it. It's due to exiting the cars to the pit side of the track. Faster driver changes and a little bit of safety factor thrown in, less people on the traffic side of the car.
