The velocity sensitivity is horrible and not at all predictable. Here's why: the pads are square and a small circle just big enough for one finger is the sensor and the remainder of the square is almost dead!! Therefore, any reliable velocity expression is heavily dependent on hitting exactly the center of the pad which can be very difficult when using two fingers.
Sometimes the unpredicatability of live play is a good thing. Sometimes you can capitalize on mistakes and come out with cool stuff by accident. Also, with live play, musicians can break out into solos at any moment instead of a pre-determined time.
nice work dude. ive never heard any sequence like this one. i mean, this sound different, not so close to hip hop like every other sequence. seems very acid
hoi. lately i use a 1-bar rhythmic phrase to have a timing reference, the phrase is mapped to one of the pads (see the video 'response' to this post for an example).
Why don't people just record the 4 bar loop live on the mpd and then loop it-instead of playing it live over and over again risking time and mistakes.
Absolutely. the point here though is to see if it's possible to work up a proficiency with this instrument which would make it possible to perform (perhaps even improvise) in a live setting. For a great example of how this can work out check out the live mpc work of 'aswell' (its on youtube).
i'm not sure if i should get the akai mpd24, or the korg padkontrol. i read the manuals, and found that the akai is lacking at some points, but it does have bigger pads, and more sliders and knobs.
Dude, I had the same problem. But I bought the Akai, being that they know what they're doing because they make the MPC series. Seriously, you won't miss the flam/roll pad becuase you'll be too busy working on your beats.
Plus add to that the screen, you got yourself a MIDI controller that feels like an MPC and works brilliantly.
Id get the Akai Mpd for the swing of it, reliability (the korg is skinnier and not as durable), Pad quality also-plus the korg is pink and the pads light up which getws rather annoying
man you are a master :D

Does this regard the MPD24 as well or the M-audio trigger finger only?

Cuz it's about practice. Recording it would defeat the purpose.
glaive21842 4 years ago
Definately know about practice but for the end result wouldn't you want to go that route, that's all Im saying

The mpd has no sequencer, so it doesn't have the famous 'mpc swing'. But it does feel more solid than the korg looks.
