Its really nice to watch this. Roy Withell who was on the winch line in this rescue was my father. I remember it very well and have lots of memories. Sadlty my father passed away but he would be so proud to think that memories like this still live on.
How old was he when he died, I know it was filmed in 76 but he must have passed on quite young? I joind the RAF in 78 and remember seeing this on telly in the NAFFI, god I feel old (48). We used to have an armed forces then, now just a division of the yank armed services! Well I hope your father is in a better place and fit for heroes.
good point! you have to remember that in 76 a lot of the Whitehall and Govt. decision makers still recalled the 2nd world war and the risks of being weak. Current UK population sees war as being something that happens "over there somewhere" and doesn't affect them. If they had their freedom and liberties at risk they'd soon pony up finds for 8 large aircraft carriers.
Love this clip! The doctor in this is my Father. "Im going to have a fag, you coming?" Classic line, Dad ... LOL

Why can't modern documentaries be like this. Leave out the over the top narration and let the reality play out.

Thanks for drawing my attention to this one Mandy. It's a good feeling to know you were involved even in a small way as I was. A great job well done.
