On that era of Dover, it isn't uncommon for the counterweight to screech like that if not lubricated regularily. The 10-stop in my parents' appartment makes that noise 2 days after elevator company has been on site and continues until next time they come back...
I actually like dover and I agree there is no excuse for those elevators to run that way even though they are fixed up now Palace could of maintained them better than this
I know those three elevators very well. I lived in the Palace for nine months and I share your sentiments about them. I often (semi-jokingly) warned the transient guests that the elevators are demon-possessed.
I think dover removed the label because they were embarrased by the crapness of this elevator! Also, I like how you censored the word with the elevator bell!
If I saw the buttons/indicators wig out like that I wouldn't have gotten into the elevator. It kind of looks as if someone is on top of it crossing the wires :)
This video got more comments than I expected. I actually now realized that this bad situation is not because those elevators are Dover/ThyssenKrupp, it is that the hotel didn't maintain those elevators properly. These elevators run quite nicely now, but are extremely busy and are still kind of messed up.
This is really a death-trap... The minute than Dover install their elevator in a place it become dangerous... same thing with hydraulics elevators but less than tractions
A dover Impulse serving 23 floors is creepy enough, but this elevator should get a FULL modernization (New cab, new controller, new fixtures, new Everything!)
stayed in New York City and my hostel had a 14 storey elevator and i would call them deathtraps. not one of the well known brands, but very fast. buttons didn't always work, sometimes it slowed down as if it was going too fast and it never levelled properly e.g. too high if it came from upstairs, or too low if it came from downstairs, also it made an alarming crunching noise every time you got into it, like the brakes were failing or something!
Agreed, but crapper1 told me these were fixed, and no longer deathtraps. I don't know about the messed up controller. Somebody actually pressed down and the up button lit up and it called the elevator up.
I know that, One really quiet Hydraulic is at The Whitaker Center in Harrisburg,PA, Dover makes great hydraulics but most of their Tractions are I don't know how to describe them
Without Dover, we would not have the modern hydraulic elevator, and I think Dover made some of the best hydraulic elevators. I mean, I have seen many Dover elevators with extremely quiet hydraulics. Every time I ride an Otis or Schindler elevator I really hear the hydraulics.
I always picture a typical Dover elevator with Impulse fixtures. Most Dovers in Seattle are Death-Trap Impulse Fixtured pieces of sh**. Dovers are cool though. BUZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never seen a hi-rise Dover before, I guess for good reason, those impulse buttons just look out place in hi-rise building, also these are (according to the internet reviews) very heavily used, think loaded to max capacity for 16 hours straight, that would turn any elevator into a deathtrap and these are obviously bad quality to begin with.
According to the reviews The Palace at Myrtle Beach is a dangerous, disgusting slum. The elevators are just the tip of the soiled iceberg at that place.
Myrtle Beach is very famous for it's beach (Grand Strand) and for it's golf courses. Myrtle Beach has some of the best golf courses in the United States and it is also called the golf capitol of the world. Next time I ever go there, I might choose the safer hotels. Ocean's One requires key cards to get in and it keeps the gangs out, the Sheraton also requires key cards but only after hours, and the desk is right by the elevators. The north side, which has HUGE hotels, is a better area.
Some comments from a review site "The elevators were slow and there are not enough to accomodate a hotel of that size...There were only 3 and most of the time they didn't work. "
"The parking deck elevators never worked so if you had to park high up you had to walk down this DISGUSTING stairwell The elevators were TERRIBLE and I see a lot of people complained about them. We were on the 10th floor and on two occasions we had to wait over 30 minutes for an elevator."
That hotel is not alone. Myrtle Beach has the WORST elevators on the planet. They are slow, heavily vandalized, they break frequently, not maintained at all, and the atmosphere there wears them down faster than you can say "I trust this elevator." This one is so bad because it sounds like the rope is going to snap or the the motor will fall though the floor, plus it is 23 floors.
I don't know. I hope I can come back to Myrtle Beach and go check these "deathevators" out. The only problem, Myrtle Beach is very famous and it is jamb packed over the summer. So bad that almost all of the 840 hotels get booked up!
well i usally just walk in the middle of the night the amway grand and the jw marriot lets you do that here in grand rapids and explore it as long as you dont get caught.
I don't blame you for being scared. That sounds terrible. I have ridden on elevators where they sound like this. I just get off ASAP and take the stairs.
Yea. I have a few questions for you. What kind of camera do you recommend? and do you drive to places just to get on elevators? or do you just go many places?
