  • Do all artists have an extensive knowledge of anatomy?

I want to be either a doctor or an artist when I grow up... :P but unfortunately except for that aspect of it those two careers don't seem compatible

  • @AGAznB

Not all artists know anatomy, but I believe it really helps to understand what you are drawing. I love Anatomy! I and some of my best friends are doctors.

    Thanks for the question!

  • I like this guy. Thanks

  • mr rogers?

  • cleidosternomastoid? i thought it was sternocleidomastoid...?

  • Thank you so much! Its really hard to find someone who does this step by step!^^

  • Really what large organisms corresponding parts?

  • A fist? That's a funny way of measuring it. I'll test it out.

  • You're a great teacher and artist, thank you so much. I live in the bay area, if I you have any non SJSU seminars or lectures, or if I can attend a on campus lecture I would love it.

  • I'm at the early stages of learning the surface anatomy of body. A challenge I encounter is manipulating the simplified anatomy to create that dynamic figure with a soul. I love the 18th century artists(Leonardo Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Auguste Rodin) as they were able to do this!

Do you have any advice that will help me avoid drawing the traditional sci-fi superhero? (The ones with classical features, and bold pose) They might be anatomically accurate but they seem to lack a "soul". Static.

  • practice gesture and movement my friend. avoid straight lines at all costs, and draw from your shoulder. keep your hand loose and use light lines, and move slow.

  • Look out for Gottfried Bammes. The book is in german but the plates are understandable on sight. He has developed a very constructive drawing style. you will learn to understand the human figure as a mechanical being :)

  • @Adeltraut a really great book . I have it in my collection .

  • excellent!

  • great video!

  • I love your videos very helpful.

  • great job matey =) very nice solid drawing, somthing i really need to learn lol =)

  • We evolved from some that was quite simple to something that was complex,it's not like we just appeared and suddenly we are complex. We might not be that complex, maybe to some other life form on another planet we might be pretty simple creatures.

  • why the hell does religion always have to get involved. nice vid though if you dont learn anatomy you will struggle with life drawing. btw why cant evloution and creationism be true eh?

  • in a funny way that makes alot of sense actually and great job btw

  • The human body is so complicated. Also, I find it rather humorous that theres a bone called the humorus (sorry for the pun)

  • Thanks lots, helpful.
