  • I keep coming back to this and remember this is the best flying home I have ever seen.... simple amazing. When he 'takes off' at the end - I have goosebumps. Seriously! Its been like 5 years since this was performed but still amazingly powerful. Well done to all involved.

  • DANM, GREAT JOB, YOUR RANGE, IS ACTUALLY INCREDIBLE, A TRUE TENOR.

  • Wow...

  • very good. but i have heard better! he could definitely go places!

  • amazing.

  • Wow. I sang this song in the summer but my voice can't even compare to yours. Beautiful High notes. Good job cast. Search quacee or jasoncampbell101 for our show.

  • oh. my. god. I honestly believe that this is the greatest version version of this song I've ever seen. And that bit at the end where he lifts himself out of view... I have goosebumps... speachless...

  • Why does he wear a German jacket?

  • OMG... My school did Songs For a New world, our guy who sang this was good, but you man are PHENOMENAL!!!

  • oh. my. god.

  • do work son.

  • this is amazing!

  • there is also a singing technique called speech level singing where by the chords zip up the more they sip up the the smaller the gap for the breath flows through the more they zip up the higher the pitch ive seen tenors doing top G's effortlessly im not sure how safe the technique is though

  • futher which makes a mix of registers once done you can work on hardening that mix to make a full voice sound - i AM a bass baritone i can do bottom c but I'v worked hard with my teacher and top notes are getting better he says i will have a firm b flat by next year

  • as this is up for debate i am a baritone i used to find E and F's hard i now can occassionally get a decent a with a good warm up ive done a B before and it is possible for barry's to do top c but its different to the way tenors do it barry's have to thin the passaggio out and learning how to tilt the larynx making the chords stretch

  • OMG I HAVE THE BIGGEST SMILE ON MY FACE

shaun did a great job and he has the best voice i have ever heard

  • Absolutely INCREDIBLE.

  • Songs for a new world comes to Upstairs at the gatehouse in London feb7th-14 2009 visit the theatre website or ticketweb to buy tickets :D

  • Whatever people! Shaun did an amazing job! Not every high school theatre kid has this amount of confidence and stage presence. He did really well and I hope he continues to pursue music!

  • I'm sorry, whoever said he has a squeaky little voice couldn't be more wrong. For being in high school, this kid's voice is amazing. He's got great control and a great sound. Great job Shaun.

  • i am SO in AWE of this shaun fleming kid.

    IN AWE.

    amazing.

  • Dude you are amazing :-) I HAVE THE BIGGEST SMILE ON MY FACE!!

  • omg. just wow. dude. i've never heard anyone sing like that besides ty taylor. you are amazing.

  • Adam Pascal's is sick too.

  • The tenors get the awesome songs! =(

    Oh well. AMAZING

  • The show doesn't even have a baritone part. That's what really stinks. But, all the songs are great.

  • Umm not really. Man 2 is not a baritone. It is probably best PERFORMED by a baritone but considering he has to sing a few B flats (although those might all be marked falsetto) and definitely has to belt out some As, it's really not a baritone part. It's too difficult to try and classify the male vocal parts for this sort of music, anyway. It isn't Rogers and Hammerstein or ALW.

  • Do you know what a Baritone is? Dear God, this musical was written for either tenors or prepubescent boys. Tenors make this song great, and a bass or baritone wouldn't even think about singing this song unless he was willing to go into falsetto mode.

  • umm no you're wrong. if you know anything about male voices, you would understand that a baritone, can get the lift in his throat to hit the high notes if it is well enough developed. most people who play Man 2 are BARITONES. the guy on the CD is a BARITONE. and JRB is quoted as saying he is, so this is immaterial. prepubescent boys? get a clue!

  • okay, as a baritone...i must say, that the guy on the album is NOT a baritone. he's def. a tenor, no arguement. but i do agree with you that baritones can get to A's and B's. it takes tons of training and it's hard and only some baritones with get those notes. i'm 19 and def. a baritone and i can do G# but my voice is not developed and i hope to get Bs by the end of college, so you are right about Baritones they can get those high notes it just takes time, and its not all baritones

  • I completely apologize. I was under the impression, for some deluded reason, that a Baritone was a Bass, and vice versa. I apologize, once again. You were right. Sorry.

  • ok chilluns, check it out: a baritone, bass, and tenor are determined by the TIMBRE of their voices, not their ranges, unless we are talking about classical singing. man 2, in this show, can be played be either a tenor with good connection to his lower range (to give a good foundation to the chords) or a baritone with a high range. on the recording, yes, man 2 is most DEFINITELY a baritone; he simply has a good high range. clear 'nuff?

  • This I knew, but I was under the impression that we were referring to basses and not baritones. There's an evident difference that I had completely messed up.

  • I still prefer it changed to a woman in the main role here ... just a personal preference

  • as a very well trained singer (tenor) i know for a fact that a baritone cannot hit those high notes...sorry but its true! A bari-tenor for sure and even a tenor, but not a baritone, there a many untrained tenor voices, but they a still not a baritone. A baritone IS set by its range no matter what kind of music, the timbre or "sound" has got to do with the different types of baritone, tenor etc (eg a lyrical tenor) if you want a further debate i'm very game!!!

  • I have to agree with Katmeow4, A bass generally can reach lower notes than a Baritone, and a tenor can generally reach higher notes than a bariton,Think of it on a scale of 1 to 10, bass's go from 1 to 4, tenors 6 to 10 and baritons 2 to 8. Thats how I always remember it. I would personally deem this role as being suited to a metso tenor also known as falsetto tenor (who generally have a much higher range in thier belting quality anyway).

  • Wow, wonderful performance =o

  • oh my gosh never heard this performed so well in my life gave me chils amazing!!! x

  • That was the most incredible performance! Well bloody done! (Y) Naturally talented! Keeeep it up! :D If you dont go far then there's something wrong with the world!

  • i... i.. just...wow i'm speachless! you have one of the most amazing tenor voices i have ever heard! geez! i think i have perminant goose bumps now! wow!

  • i dont think you did the high note at the last "im... FLYing...home" but i still got chills! great job!

  • when he sounds like a "girl" its called head voice! every single guy can go high up! mad props though on this!!!! :)

  • Not every single guy. And not every single guy can do it well. He's really good.

  • oh my goodness.

    props to you guys.

    sounds freaking awesome.

  • That was.....amazing. Wow

  • that was a compliment btw

  • wow. ya'll better sing. i mean damn.

  • im a professional actor and you completely just made me pee my pants and cry...wow...WOW!!!!

  • that was absolutely amazing.

  • That guy has an incredible vocal range!! but he kinda sounds like a girl when he's that high up but incredible no joke.

  • damn! thats all i have to say

  • Amazing indeed. This song is almost impossible to sing! Respect!

  • this is a school production!!! I thought it was a proffesional production!! I love this song so much...I bet those guys got such a buzz after doing that, I would! Well done all. x

  • So good. Just keep doin' what you're doin'...

  • WHERE IS THIS HIGHSchool

no joke this is like the most incredible rendition of this show ive ever seen / heardof / or anythign

eveyone in this production is beyond pheonomenal

  • lol i watch the videos from this production all the time. i really love them! im thinking of directing this for senior projects at my school.

  • you are all amazing.... the blonde one... holy fuck...

  • i am crying right now... you gave me chills mr flemming!!!!

JRB should know about this production, seriously moving interpretation of the text.... phenomenal

  • who ever this Shaun Flemming person is absolutely wonderful. like every video of him singing is amazing.

  • simply amazing!!! i have the cd to the off broadway soundtrack and this kid is as good as the black man who plays him on off broadway! well done!!!

  • this song gave me chills. HE IS AMAAAAAAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!

  • im pretty sure taybroadway's version has 3 times the people and still isnt as powerful. thank you shaun flemming for being... god

  • simply amazing. i listen to this over and over, shaun's voice is so amazing. he'd better end up on broadway.

  • These kids are good, but for a really powerful version of this song by high school students search for taybroadway07 and see the version he posted.

  • pshaw, this version is way better than taybroadway's... i like this version better than the ADULT cast, to tell the truth.

  • your voices are so beautiful. and i love this work of jason robert brown's. it just makes me want to cry. and i almost did while watching this.

  • i totally know that blond kid, i did "the all state show " at California state festival - that is maybe the geekiest sentence ever, hes pretty good.

  • wow...im a huge fan of JRB and this is one of the best performances ive seen done with this song....incredible range, incredible dynamics and inflection, incredible TALENT!! shaun flemming definitely needs to pursue a career in musical theater.

  • i don't care what you have to say about his singing, that is amazing what he does from the middle to the end. The beginning is even good. So your harshness was unjustified and totally irrelavent.

  • The varsity show choir group at my school, The Headliners, had this song as their ballad this year. It was so sad when they performed it on our final show.

  • Uhm... holy crap. Shaun Flemming - get your ass to Broadway! That was absolutely incredible. The range of that voice is out of this world... ::shivers and gets goosebumps:: Best song of the entire show posted, without a doubt.

  • Is he really physically handicapped or was it jsut for perspective of the show??

  • i dont think hes whiny, just youthful...which is to be expected because hes a teenager...all of these guys are great...definitely a cut above most highschool performers

  • nice range

  • I dont think that high schoolers should be trying to put on a production or singing anything that is as challenging as JRB. With that said, you guys did have a nice blend in this song, The blond kid in the wheel chair, I did not care for that much, he was way to "whiny" for me. What surprised me though is that his voice was much much better at the top, carry that focus and tone through that entire song and it would be better. Hope i wasnt to harsh...

  • you definitely were...this was an absolutely fantastic rendition of one of the most difficult songs to sing ever.

The kid in the wheel chair, he should be commended for not only being able to sing this, but for doing so with gusto, and being in a chair for most of the show. He's not whiny...i've seen whiny, if i find something, i'll post it.

  • I totally agree

  • Wait... could he walk all along? Hm... either way, I enjoyed watching/listening to this.

  • wow, wow, wow... a big piece to handle... *bows

    Great job everyone.

  • Wow. amazing. Shaun's voice blew me away. Beautiful! Congrats to all of them!

  • i love Songs for a New World. why isnt it like, making millions of dollars right now on Broadway??

  • oh my gosh! so inspiring and beautiful! all of you are so amazing and you must be getting tired of hearing this like a bagillion times but its so true

  • Im just....Im never gonna be able to stop watching this. I watch it every day! Its sooooo inspiring! Thank you! Your whole show has really made me love Songs For A New World more than I ever thought possible.

  • Very good performance but I couldn't help my chuckling when the lead singer got lifted off the stage.

  • I liked that bit of staging. I found it to be powerful without using cheesy special effects like fly wires or something. and the timing of that whole sequence was perfect

  • haha he totally wasn't lifted, he just pushed himself up and dissappeared. from the audience perspective he was entirely gone. He just improvised it during rehearsals and we kept it. Trust me, we did a lot more than chuckle, but it was so fucking awesome that we kept it.

  • oh, honestly. if you are the director i applaud you. this is whole thing is exceptional. some intercharacter blocking choices were questional (the embrace in i'd give it all for you is what i think about) this moment works VERY well. it's not a cliche peter pan moment. it is actually innovative. obviously, if i directed it the actors around him probably would of personified the stairs and the air surrounding him. i'm bizarre. NO good good good good production.
  • holy mother of god

you guys should freaking go broadway

    or tour the world

    and make millions of dollars

    like serisously

  • this blew me away.
