Thanks - Actually, they did not "throw out the rule book" The CG is very good at surging and forming up around a crisis. And lower level managers don't need top level permission to respond a crisis. It's expected. (I posted the video, i'm a little biased)
haha well good point they didn't ACTUALLY throw out anything, their system was just able to avoid the buracracy that held up all the other agencies in the days after Katrina
Yep, it's our Rule Book that everyone is now finally listening to.
I was LE, but I have friends at AIRSTAs that are RS, I love those guys. They fight and are treated like dirt for two to three years as a "deckie" before they even get a chance at "A" School. I cheated, I had a guaranteed school in QM (now BM). Those guys scrubbed the boat and kept her together doing jobs none of us would, just to make it to "A" school.
Nope, definitely not- The navy may have done some rescues during Katrina but all the footage here is USCG. At minute 1:45 that is the inside of a CG H60 and a CG Rescue basket.
The footage was put together by someone at CG Training Center Mobile. Why do you think Nayve?
Not many people know that in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Coast Guard rescued over 33,000 people. When others are evacuating, they are coming in. They are America's rescue warriors, risking their lives everyday so others may live. God Bless You!
im 11 years old i had this decision 3 years ago i want to be an AST i am doing all that i can to keep myself in shape my dad was an isreali spec ops at 14 and he said 100% dosent make it 150% will do it and i will give it 150% to try and be one of them and one day i might fly with them save people that i dont even know god bless the USA and god bless u uscg u guys save so many
the reason no came down to assist was the govenor of the state did`nt know she was supposed to ask?"bush" had to come down and invite her to sign the proclamation of disaster onboard air force 1.federal help can only start when the state asks!
I hope are Tax money does go to men and woman in the Coast guard because if you think about it what would happen if we didn't have them well we would be screwed.
After Katrina had struck, all the other military branches became tangled in bureaucracy, but the coast guard threw out the rule book and got down there before anyone. It was their finest hour for sure
United States Coast Guard's finest hour. Jumping into action, saving lives without asking permission, when the rest of the government had their thumbs up their asses.
One of the few groups that actually came out of Katrina in a posative light. Can't wait to be heading to Cape May.

That was awesome. Why didn't the coast Guard get more recognition for what they did?
Noone else was doing anything "Bush"
But the coast guard saved so many lives.
We should have had a country salute to them.
