  • Fantastico!! da vida!

  • "tis the gift to be free" Watching the 911 tribute and Yo Yo Ma's performance brought me here. How sad this day is , I didn't realize how much emotion it was going to still evoke as I have been crying for over an hour. God Bless all those who lost their lives due to this tragic event, all the family and friends that mourn their loved ones everyday, all those who helped rescue, clean up and rebuild the WTC site & all those who protect our country everyday. Life is a gift! Let freedom ring!

  • this song is one of the most beautiful i've ever heard. the cello, the voice, the words sung, and the photographs shown... all uplifting beyond measure. for all thats wrong with the world and the people thereon - here is something beautiful and good. oh that we could realize what is most important while there is still time - the Simple Gifts

  • Gorgeous, love it. What a beautiful way to tie love and beauty together.

  • Oh.. Sweet Heaven. Yo-yo and Alison. thank-you for this tIny but BEAUTIFUL sound and vision of a beautiful life.

  • What beautiful music and lyrics. My blog today entitled "Parents, A Frugal Christmas Can Be A Fantastic Christmas" features this song. Log on to to see how it fits in to my topic.

  • Peaceful, simple,relaxing

  • I dare say that tomorrow (Black Friday), this song be put in a continuous loop in every shopping mall and big-box store in the United States.

Humility made this country great; materialism made it awful. Turn back, America, before it's too late.

  • "Shall the nightingale offend the stillness of the night...?"

    - Kahlil Gibran.

Paradoxically, this sound of the vibrant voice and the

quivering strings deletes the cacophony in the soul,

the echo of life's noises ringing in our minds.

It deepens the quiet of the soul, leads to solitude,

not in loneliness, but in enchantment into an

    unknown distance....

Thanks for the sound and images uploaded.

  • i am the greatest man that ever lived

  • such trascendental truth found its simplicity

yet so absolute infinite in beauty

  • Such beautiful music..hmm makes me want to learn the cello

  • I'm working on this right now with my cello teacher and it's driving me nuts! I sang this in school now it's come back to haunt me. I mean it's pretty but it's infuriating to play!

  • Simply the best version of this tune I've heard -- even better than Aaron copeland's arrangement which I love. And your video accompaniment? Simply superb. Well done. Thank you.

  • i remeber seeing her in concert

    it was amazing!!!!!!!!

I had never seen so many people quiet.

  • i love this song. great vid.

  • I have some Yo-Yo Ma on cd (saw him in concert when he was a young 'un in Pasadena, CA in 1979-80 forget exactly what month) - and I have Alison Krauss. So I'm definately looking for this CD/song. Very good. My kid is learning the song in his 6th grade band - seemed frustrated by how it was but now he seems encouraged after watching this video!

  • Knowing that this video has encouraged your son makes it all worth the effort. Thank you.

  • @KSMSDRPEPPER didn't know he'd been around that long, all I have is silk road journey

  • I own this CD. It's one of my favorites. Extremely peaceful and inspirational.

  • Simply endearing...like the cello accompaniment and Alison Krauss's soulful singing.

  • I love the photos! Simply Serenity!

  • are you serious! how did anyone ever find this recording? I to this day claim that if God came down and granted one person with a perfect singing voice it would be Allison Kraus

  • we are playing this as our 2nd movement in marching band this year.

  • We used this song during our wedding ceremony...

  • We're singing this song in choir right now. The song is originally faster though. Almost one beat per second. Personally I like the fast version better but this one it pretty too

  • This is simply the best! Simple combination for vocal and cello

  • love it, this is the song i am dancing to for my modern dance :)

  • Simply beautiful, so peaceful. ♥♥

  • Written in 1848 by Elder Joseph Brackett, Jr. at the Shaker village in Alfred, Maine.
