  • Love the picture except for "mother" Theresa who appears to be honored here. That poor woman believed in faith by works. That is why she didn't give anyone in her "hospitals" pain meds. She would tell her "patients" that they were "suffering for Jesus." "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, not of works lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8

  • Funny how people are all set to condemn others, and judge them in a negative manner. I thought this country was based on religious tolerance not intolerance. The over all theme here is to mock others beliefs. Sad how those feel that they are better than others make such remarks.

Lets face it LDS is like any other religion, they believe they are the only way to heaven. Why don't mock all other religions too?

  • "it takes courage to be a christian" i cant agree with this.

an atheist wont care if you're religious or not and will just go his/hers way.

a christian will oppose his beliefs onto an atheist or any other religion and in many cases resort to violence.

  • @worghal

He's LDS, I took the statement as "It takes courage to be a mormon".

With the outright lies that are said about the church, and being mocked by atheists and Christians alike, it does take courage.

  • Franklin and Lincoln in that picture? Hm, I thought they weren't Christians.

  • @BloodskullMannoroth *facepalm* And you think Chairman Mao, Darwin, Lenin, Stalin, Idi Amin etc etc were?

  • @Whirrednerd I was referring to the painting "One Nation Under God" which shows Franklin holding his hand over his heart looking supportively looking at Jesus.

  • @BloodskullMannoroth Oh ok then, my appologies. I'm not a big fan of 'One Nation Under God' either.

  • It takes courage.

  • Would we recognize Him if He walked among us today?

I believe that Jon McNaughton is extraordinarily spiritual and also has a keen understanding of where we are and what we are going through as well as what we are ABOUT to go through. He is shining the light of truth and even painting us pictures. He is truly b;essed.

  • The comments of the Mormonphobes crack me up. Blinded by their bigotry and ignorance and justifying their hate with their own narrow "I'm right and your wrong" attitude.... they seem as blind to the truth as the Jews who couldn't recognize the Very Jesus as he walked among them. They too were blinded by the lies of their own paid ministers. So sad..... this artist is amazing...

  • @rebeccaweisler

You have learned well from leftists, adopting their "political correctness" based propaganda tactics.

There is no reason to assume people who criticize Mormon theology are guided by hatred, bigotry, or any other emotion. LDS theology irreconcilably contradicts biblical theology on many points. To observe an objective fact is not hateful.

Fact is, LDS doctrine officially condemns mainline Christian theology as corrupted. People who live in glass houses...

  • @UncleIrv

Don't use words like "condemn" or "corrupted" to make it sound more severe than it is.

  • @Vorzt

I do not base my choice of words on "how they sound." I base my choice of words on whether they are ACCURATE. The words I chose were accurate. I am not going to worry about whether people are "offended" as long as what I say is true.

If you're Morman, you must face the fact that your "extra biblical revelations" contradict the bible (and scientific fact) in many ways. They also originally contained racism. But they're YOUR writings. Why blame others for pointing it out?

  • @UncleIrv

I always enjoy when non-Mormons tell Mormons what Mormons believe.

    It's most humorous.

  • @Vorzt

Yes, it's too bad we need to tell you what you believe because you're so uninformed about your own religion.

A surprising number of Mormons follow a sort of "cultural Mormonism" where they have very little detailed knowledge of actual Mormon teachings. Like you.

When I, however, speak of Mormonism, I'm speaking of the OFFICIAL published doctrines of the LDS authority--which can be checked by anyone.

Just because you don't follow those doctrines does not change WHAT THEY ARE.

  • These paintings have made me feel so passionate again and again. Thank you

  • amazing painting truly!!

  • Paintin' pitchurs of the action figure Jeezus..... sanctimonious crap by a self inflated fart bag who sells overpriced kitsch to rural undereducated boobs. He is the embodiment of those who monetize people's religious impulses, the Pat Robertson of painters.

  • the young man looks like a mormon missionary.

  • @1radstallion Oh, that's the young Mitt Romney. He's got a copy of the true Gospels inside his coat. The Christ face was based on a portrait of Joseph Smith.

  • @1radstallion

    The artist is LDS.

  • awesome Jon and such strong message keep up the good work.

  • Hilariously if you go to his website he is charging ridiculous amounts for his work. $2,500 for a Limited edition 'Giclée canvas' which is basically an inkjet print that costs tens of dollars and he doesn't say what the edition is. Highly dubious financial practice. Then he is charging up to $1,150 for a frame!!! What's the frame made out of? Gold?

There really is a sucker born every minute (in the US).

  • @jamespayne33 Are you saying that a artist wants to be reimbursted for the skillful renering of his work. Of course he does. I would like a t - shirt with this and many other Jon Mcnaughton paintings on it. It's that tricky 1st amendant thing that keeps getting in the way. Isn't it ?

  • @MrSpencerport If you are referring to Freedom of Speech, that's nothing to do with my point. I am merely stating that he is charging extortionate prices. Or is the 'right to use Christ's image to overcharge for cheap printed canvasses' a clause of the 1st amendment I missed?

  • Since when did it become uncool to believe in god? :-(

  • @Nukem962001

You need to expand outside your community, you would be surprised.

  • Your artistic skills are not only superb, but purposeful. Your art motivates one to prescind in thought and contemplate. It does me, anyhow. Great job. You use your talents well.

  • Jon I just saw some of the CBS Utah Media, defaming your One Nation Under God. Brother, if you weren't doing something substantial and worthy from our Lord, the attacks would not be such. Then I just saw your message and new painting to America. You have SEEN well brother, and I encourage you, to keep on walking your path, stay the course. How many painters in history knew Jesus? VERY FEW

  • Love the art and comments and yes, it is harder to be a Christian now. GOD BLESS US ALL!

  • This is wonderful as are all of your paintings that I've seen so far. I, too, hope our government sees these! They may not care but they need to see how we feel.

  • OMG ! you are great & beautiful painter! I just hope your paintings are seen by our government and take the meaning to heart. Paula

    Just fantastic! ♥♥♥♥♥

  • But all of us are guilty of crucifying Christ. Would i have come to his defense? No. Probably not. His disciples forsook him and fled. We are all sinners.

  • @terriergal this is not to excuse sin, but to keep us from thinking "we wouldn't have" sinned in that way. It does take courage to stand for the truth, and we should. But it is in only realizing how sinful we are and how wonderful Christ is, who died to gain forgiveness for us, that we can even begin to stand for truth.

  • im a zen buddhist and former catholic but this is such a beautiful depiction. in my tradition i have always regarded jesus (or as we say, isa) as an enlightened being who taught compassion and understanding. i wish much blessings and peace upon my christian brothers and sisters in the quest for happiness. Jesus was in many ways an unsurpassed man who died for his love of the world. pax christi and much metta

  • @MountAnalogue He is much more than an 'enlightened being' - he is God in human flesh, and beside him there is no other. acknowledging him as 'good' or 'enlightened' is not enough. He died to pay the price for your sins, the only one who could do that. He will not be put alongside other gods in our lives.

  • @terriergal

my friend, belief is, like everything else, the product of mind. you see the nature of mind you see the truth of reality, you understand God. I believe i muhammad and the buddha and in jesus and lao tzu and in krishna and moses and jacob. all religions, all spiritualities, all ideologies, all philosophies, all people, everything in the world is like a hand pointing to the same moon, but each a different hand. none are the moon itself.

  • even tho the 23 people that dislikes this video doesn't like Jesus. Jesus loves you

  • Recently I was at the WTC Memorial with 7 sister chaplains. As people lined up to enter we began to since songs that our forefathers sang as prayers. God Bless America, My Country Tis Of Thee, Grand Old Flag, America The Beautiful, I began to speak into the crowd and was in awe at the emptiness I saw in the eyes of the people. Was there no one who looked for God? Made me very sad, I under how our Lord feels. God send us Great Awakening.

  • @SUPERSTUD6000 "Gay Jesus" as a reply to my comment is non-sensical. Perhaps you did not read my comment correctly. I said: "Yes, He does love communists, gays and liberals. He doesn't like some of the things they do."

  • thank you for your painting. oh yeah, and you're an idiot.

  • @grokagain That isn't very nice.

  • amazing

  • That's not art ! Thats propaganda !

  • @Stockstrumpf put a sock in it you liberal cunt nugget. if you dont like it dont watch it. to you its propaganda to others its art.

  • Comment removed

  • @Stockstrumpf Yea! Isn't that Great..

  • @Stockstrumpf Yeah, this is propaganda? That's why you barely see Jesus anywhere any more but you see sexual and violent images everywhere. But oh no, the violence and sex isn't propaganda, a picture of a man who preached true love is. God bless

  • Jesus also loves communists, gays and liberals !

  • @Stockstrumpf Yes, he did love the none believers, as well as you.

  • @Stockstrumpf loves them yes, but cant stand the actions.

  • @Stockstrumpf Yes, he does love communists, gays and liberals. He doesn't like some of the things they do.

  • What you are doing is awesome, both paintings and videos.

  • Benditos son los que por mi causa los vituperen y los persigan.

Serviremos a los ojos humanos y no a los de Dios?

  • AMEN!!! He is the LORD Jesus Christ, and I will stand with Him forever!!

  • How many realize that you can NOT be a TRUE Christian, and support IsraLIE. USA is where The Almighty regathered the house of Jacob (Israel) and Joseph. Palestine, belongs to the Palestinians. They are of Hagar, and whether or not ya know, She was blessed by God also. 80-95% of those who claim to be Jews are Khazar-Mongolian in origin and have NO right to ANY land in Palestine. Those few TRUE Jews who WERE living there in Peace with the Palestinians KNOW this and are persecuted just as much.

  • @TheDrillerdoug Technically and historically Palistine and most of Israel's Arab neighbors are aready on Israelie soil. If anyone is give land back it should be Iran, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Gaza. So why you supporting Hamas and the rest of their Arab Nazi allies who keep trying to kill American citizens and our soldiers? If society would stop hating Israel and supporting the U.N., E.U. and worthless Arab countries this war on terror would have had a big hole shot into it years ago

  • You hit the mark, many are called few actually choose Christ, I pray that when the "Time of trouble" hits that I can be faitfull to the end. I have set my heart to do right and only right God help me.

  • Beautiful vision of the heart and soul of Jesus and our country. Thank you Jon.

  • Jesus has been back my friend - we fail to recognize him in JFK, MLK, John Lennon, Gandhi, Dalai Lama, etc.

Instead, we focus on ad hominem issues instead of the message.

'Christ', in the scriptures, is not literally what you think it is. Early christian texts were from fertility and shamanic cults in the middle east. The symbolism of 'the anointed one' is actually a sexual reference, but also to the spiritual experience of the use of entheogens. Truth alone will set us all free.

  • @cbeebe007 wow, you're disgusting. so when he's called the Anointed and then spoken of in every way as meaning Anointed to be the lamb of God, the sacrifice for sin that atones for man's sin and reconciles them to God, and absolutely none of what you propose.... no, it really meant he was anointed to be a pimp daddy in the 'hood of palestine?

I agree with four first statement, that there is no good but what comes of God, but you don't have to cut down Christianity with ridiculous accusations

  • @PCEggo I am sorry you feel this way, but truly many of the collected stories that make up the old testament are from shamanic and fertility cults. Puns (or play on words) are a common element, especially when they were written to hide esoteric elements from the profane. I recommend reading Leo Strauss's 'Persecution and the Art of Writing', and then dive into the works of John Allegro - especially 'The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross'. I can only show you the door. Peace my friend.

  • @cbeebe007 sure.... peace back at ya.

  • And how suprised would you be to see our Prophet (!!!!) Jesus (peace be upon him) coming back to mother Earth and declaring the teachings of Islam as the true message...

  • Awesome -

    Awesome beautiful.

    The music as well.

    Thank you.

  • Mormons to help clean up Lodi, Galt parks; community is invited to join

  • When I was at Weber College, I was a member of the Institute of Religion Board. We had daily classes, and we also held a sacrament meeting each Sunday. We would plan the Sunday services.

  • This man's paintings are actually pretty bad. They're a modern version of the old classical, idealized works. Jesus has been made physically larger than everyone else in the painting, like artists did with important figures thousands of years ago. It's a primitive style of art, recreating stuff that you like larger than life in comparison to everything around it. It's . . . well . . . gross, frankly.

  • @shrikechan "This man's paintings are actually pretty bad"

    colloquial BAD right?

  • @shrikechan its art, next time we'll take a photograph if it makes you happy.

  • you are persecuted because christians are bigots and hypocrites

  • @disturbed119 spoken like someone void of PREJUDICE?

  • @omiolo first of all i didn't not claim that i had none, at least i try to examine the way i think and why i think it, and not just bend over when told to. so yes i do have some prejudice but within the bounds of reason

  • @disturbed119 "not just bend over when told to"

    nice imagery?

  • @omiolo are you 3 years old or did you just discover internet yesterday?

  • @disturbed119 most of them, yes, but not all.

  • Thank you Jon!

  • priestcraft

  • My name is Megan Dean. I am very excited to see "The Arrival". My favorite video is "The Via Dolorosa" because I loved the emotion potrayed and I really enjoyed reading about all the different people that have impacted Christianity.

  • I'm adding this to my previous entry. I can wait to see, "The Arrival." Robyn Bryant Teunissen

  • As a Mother who just lost her 36 year old son a month ago, I can identify with Mother Mary. The pain in her heart must have been so devistating...even tho she knew she had borne the Son of God. Thank you for your beautiful painting and inspiring words. God Bless. Dottie T. Oklahoma

  • I am looking forward to seeing "The Arrival" when you complete it as well.

  • My name is Charity Angel White. The Via Dolorosa is my favorite video at this time. I think that the message that it has is the most important one of our time. Our time in this life can be used in many ways, but the most important decision we will make is whether or not we will choose Christ again.

  • My name is Andy Makoby and I would have to say my favorite is "The Face of Christ". to know that he loves us so much and to be blessed by his unfailing never ending love is more then we can ever comprehend!

  • I love the many people who had an impact on Christianity. I love the man knows Jesus is the Christ & rests his hand on Christ's shoulder! We need to stand up for our beliefs & acknowlege that Christ is our Lord & Savior! Thank you for sharing your "Gift"!!! I love the symbolism in your paintings & how you share your faith! Patricia Vasenius

  • This video was my introduction to your art. I love all the symbolism in this painting and the people (both for and against the Savior) in it. Because he was doing this for everyone even those who were hateful. I did not even notice Satan in this picture. Thank you for making this art of meaning. I like that we have to "speak the truth even if we have to stand alone."

  • True Christians - which is a nonsense statement to begin with (see no-true-Scotsman fallacy) are hardly the most persecuted people in today's world. Far far from it. Atheists are more persecuted than Christians. Homosexuals are more persecuted that Christians. And (depending on the part of the world) Muslims, Hindus, Jews and pagans are arguably as persecuted if not moreso. Other groups more "persecuted" than modern US Christians include blacks, women (as a group) & the mentally challenged.

  • @gamutman Look at the persecution in China

  • @the1qb Compare Chinese Christian persecution to the persecution of the Tibetan people as a whole but particularly Tibetan Buddhism. China strictly controls all religion, so Christianity is in no wise special in that case, but it's certainly not more persecuted there than any other faith.

  • I found your video of awaiting the judgment! I have posted it to my FB page I hope many will watch it's how I learned about you your work by my mom posting the forgotton man to her wall on FB and I looked for your work and well I became one of your newest fans, God has blesses you with an awesome gift and I'm glad your using it to honor him. Julie Henry

  • I like this one Jon, but I really like your painting on awaiting the judgement very powerful and thought provoking causes one to think and then in turn be very thankful

  • Jon, this pricks my heart to its very core...... thank you! I don't think I have been as forgiving as should must be... I repent and I pray for my enemies that I will hold true to who IS TRUE... even His Son Jesus Christ .. HE IS the TRUE GOD and ETERNAL LIFE!

  • Whacko. I'm seen this guy's other paintings and his notion that "it takes courage to be a Christian" and "Christians are the most oppressed people on the planet" is silly, sad, and not a little obnoxious.

There's plenty of religious hatred to go around, but the victims are overwhelmingly the non-Christian and nonreligious. I suppose it does take courage to profess Christianity in Baghdad, but in Poughkeepsie it's a non-issue.

  • I too love your paintings. I have just subscribed. I would love to have Peace is Coming painting in your contest, because I look forward to when there is no war with nations as well as in families and in ourselves. There will just be peace!

  • This is my favorite, it's really wonderful.

  • I love the historical perspective in many of your paintings. The Via Dolorosa is quite powerful. I love the music and narration of the video. It does take a great deal of courage to be a Christian today, and it won't get any easier. I anxiously await the day of our Lord's return!!

Your work is an inspiration. Thank you, C. Newman

  • this painting is very touching. Thank you for sharing your gift

  • I love the video about the face of Christ!

    Ansley

  • What you have to say is courageous, beautiful, sensitive and true. Your question about what would happen if Jesus returned to earth and the whole scenario played out again is a great one. Where do we as Christians stand in relationship to our faith? Fortunately the next time we see Christ he will be coming to bring us home. That is when false doctrines and their followers will have to face their decision. Thank you for your paintings and the debate they foster.

  • May I add for those like me who didn't know about the phrase " Via Dolorosa" until now

    The Via Dolorosa

  • To "dlkamps" The Book of Mormon isn't in addition to the Bible. It's another testament of Jesus Christ, and is in conjunction with the Bible. You should read it, and educate yourself before making such ignorant statements...

  • I am going to stand alone in this ungodly world, even among "Christians", to say that this painting is against the Second Commandment. We may not have images of God! It's absolutely horrible! We don't need anything beyond the completed Holy Writ which all peoples have in the King James Version of it. Don't let this video, its painting portrayed in it, or the sacrilege of the Roman Catholics desensitize you!

Revelation 22:18 No need to "add" to "this book", which is the completed with Revelation.

  • Yes & Amen Jon!

  • John, I absolutly love your vidios yes it does take courage to become a Chistian today please comment on my vidio called stand up for Jesus on Easter 2011 my password is eddiepapero01 Can you help me pass this along John? this Idea came to me when all the national broadcast stations (with big movie stars) saying will we all stand up for cancer? well to make a long story short I did. But when I ask for everyone to stand up for Jesus on Easter Sunday 2011 i get 123 responces?? please help! Eddie

  • I admire anyone who can paint freedom! Da Vinci never did that. Thanks to you, Jon McNaughton!

  • It takes COURAGE to be Christian whether you are Mormon or Lutheran or any other denomination we live in a world that uses science against God instead of with him.Has anyone ever thought that maybe God used Science to create the world... Science simply proves that there is a God! I love my God and I know thatthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is True. IWould like to make it clear thought that I am not attempting to start contentionnor saythatanydenomination youmaybelongiswrong!

  • this is so toughing.n so tru.u r inspirational.this is amazing.i agree with al u say!!!Kep livung for christ.

  • I have no problem with giving our Lord and Savior all the praise ang glory for all the events and situations that have happened in my life.I give praise for all the situations he has brought me through and for giving me peace ,joy ande love that only God can give.Thank you for allowing me to share my belief and may God continue to imspire your endevers

  • Thank you, brother, you truly are gifted. When I took the time to look into your painting and the people in it, it truly made me cry. I can really feel the spirit. I bear witness that He lives and He is our Savior and Redeemer. I love the Lord with all my heart and cannot understand how people could hate Him, even if they did not believe he was the Messiah. Jesus Christ showed and still shows unwavering love for each and everyone one of us. He never hated anyone, so how could they hate him?

  • "The Modern Christian" at the center is dressed like a Mormon missionary or lay priesthood leader. (Suit, white shirt, no facial hair and short hair.) No surprise since McNaughton is LDS/Mormon and his cultural values affects the way he paints things. (Like Satan looking like a human being rather than an angel.) Culture has always influenced religious art, I just prefer not to see LDS norms making headway into paintings targeting a Christian audience.

  • @Huey12314

But we are all Christian, brother. We all have a devout love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. =) I like that McNaughton can show that we are not so different after all. We all strive to be more like Jesus Christ, to love others, show humility, kindness, and charity, the pure love of Christ. But what makes this look like it's just LDS influenced? Many people wear suits. Honestly, I didn't realize Jon was LDS for sure until I looked into this painting.

  • God has Blessed us through this painter. May we ALL Bless God no less.

  • Thank you Jon. Your work is truly inspiring and fills me with the Spirit.

  • God has blessed Jon McNaughton with a beautiful talent; his paintings are so meaningful and a great blessing. Mr. McNaughton, you are touching many lives; keep on witnessing though your paintings. We'll probably never know what we do that may change someone's life; but you are definitely obedient to Jesus and the Great Commission! God bless and keep you!

  • it takes courage to be a Christian, not in words, but in deeds.

  • @omiolo2 a true Christian lives the lifestyle doesn't consider church a social club.

  • @AquaRacer8 or a spectator sport.

  • @omiolo so true or an idealogical philosopher who mearly likes to tantalize his/her mind or worse put down others to falsely raise themselves in their own imaginations rather than actually put their shoulder to the wheel and put the experiment of living the gospel of Christ into practical application.

  • @omiolo2 wow

  • @fdny9682 somebody spent some time giving that a thumbs up.

  • We would not crucify the Savior Jesus Christ because he already met the needs of sacrificing for Mankind that we may repent and be cleansed of our sins. We will see him again and no one will hurt him and no one will hurt each other. I bear witness He lives.

  • @FATE522

    Me too. Amen!

  • That was a very powerful question: "If Christ were on the earth today, would the world want to crucify Him again?". That is so true. We really must not fear to testify of Him, even if we will be alone. Congratulations, Jon. Great picture, great message, great vision. I will share, for sure. Thank you.

  • @cricayres

People all over the world try to crucify Jesus with evil words, thoughts and deeds every day. But Jesus has over come death and evil and in the end evil doers crucify themselves to death and.... hell.

  • I really admire his paintings.

  • So very moving! Thank you Jon, for once again conveying a powerful and all important message. God, has truly blessed you with a wonderful gift, to be shared.
