Wow, that was great. I just discovered Danielle today and fell in love. And just as I was listening to the Wanderer for the first time I started imagining how amazing this song would be with a full band and then noticed this vid.
Great job with everything, I just really wish this had some drums. That would totally make this song.
This is still really, freakin' cool, funkworm. You're the funkiest worm I know, even funkier than the worm who tried to convince me he was James Earl Jones.
... and THAT'S a lot of funky! Well you're more magical than the unicorn with fake hair extensions with whom I enjoyed Daria reruns just before he tranquilized me and stole my kidney.
I'm glad you like it, I have to say that your videos in particular seem very play-alongable. So much so that I'm working on another post-collab video.
So, you wouldn't by any chance be able to send me the original video file of The Patriotism of Reincarnation via yousendit com to funkwurmATgmail com, would you?
I'm honored you want to download it :) but as its mainly Danielle's song, I can't really help you with that. I don't know exactly whether she's on iTunes or something like that.
You seem to know what you're talking about. There is, however, no compression anywhere. I only use a soft-clip limiter to prevent clipping (hence the name). I've tried manually altering track volumes at places where it clips, but that's not gonna fly, the only way to stop it from clipping at the peaks is to mute 1 of the tracks for a split second, which just sounds horrible.
I don't hear a noticeable difference with the soft-clip on, other then it simply not clipping. Any advice welcome though
Oh my gosh! I just saw this! It's REALLY cool! I feel like I'm in a band now! What should we call ourselves? (and can we always have a rimshot after every joke I make!?)
Its a custom build 6-string fretless, that's why you don't recognize the body. Build by a small 3 employee local bass-shop here called Rikkers. The model is called a powerline.
They build awesome bases, the tone when I play without any amp is amazing, which says a lot.
Never heard of John Myung though, I'll check him out. I discovered Michael Manring via youtube and am now a big fan :D
very cool, I love this song also, thinking of covering it.

That bass line reminds me of some "Division Bell" era Floyd. Sounds great
ProbyWaN1337 3 years ago
Floyd? As in the Pink one?
Thanks, I've had less complimenting comparisons.

there's one quarter of the video that stays black for a reason ;)
I reckon though that a drummer playing along with this version might make it more obvious that at some points the tempo isn't tight.

i find it extremely difficult to believe you made one of her songs better
but you've done it, right there ^
incredible.

(here I go with an advice noone asked for)
The vocals keep getting pushed under the bass by the compressor on the master channel.
Cure this by either using a multiband compressor, or not using any compression at all (it would be more musical that way)

WOW. that bass collab is awesome! my room is vibrating ;)

what an awesome way to put it, thanks :)
Also, that must mean you use quite the speakers, because on regular PC-speakers the bass doesn't fully come through. Cool

funky magic? Danielles wurm? eh, the band who ate the sandwich? hm, good point, didn't think of that.
But thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it.
Yeah first I had some crickets montaged in, but I figured you'd appreciate a rimshot better.
funkwurm 3 years ago
crickets would probably be more appropriate.
Danielle's Wurm sounds like a sexual transmitted Disease. I think that's a good approach to take.

wow, awesome collab.
I love your 6 string bass, but I don't recognize the body. I'm a huge John Myung fan, love 6 string basses.
