  • I remember hearing her play Partita in B flat by Bach, the most alive, inspiring performance I have ever heard

  • what can i say... wonderful

  • Dear MJP, don't bother trying to explain it in words. We don't need it. Not after you've played it. A picture tells a thousand words. Your playing tells a million words

  • Portugal, deu-nos um dos maiores Santos. Antonio de Lisboa (Pádoa), e uma das maiores pianistas. Maria João Pires.

  • Que benção, o Brasil tê-la entre nós.

  • She plays the piano as if she deeply needs it. It is very moving and makes me a bit jealous as well.

  • That's gorgeous.

  • One of the greatest portuguese pianists.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Is the same that the first piece (sonata nº3 Chopin 3º movement Largo)

  • What's the name of the piece playing at 3:02?

  • @SmokeROS It is also the Sonata No. 3 - III. Largo, but this part comes later

  • beautiful lady, beautiful music,

  • I love when you release the keys and they like jump!!

  • Well . . . come on will ya . . . nothing special at all.

  • beautiful interpretation, convincing and spiritual

  • She's the best!

  • Very expressive!!!

  • Fuck, she has a tattoo on her right wrist. How cheap!!!

  • @misspeckpeck so... What does it matter to you?

  • @misspeckpeck why so pretensious?

  • @misspeckpeck yes it shows she is a trashy person at heart, for her age she should know better but i s'pode she thinks she's 'bohemian' lol

  • @misspeckpeck really? and what part of the body do you think it should be on to make it less cheap?

  • @I0QQ0I On her fucking vagina.

  • @misspeckpeck jeez, what a neurotic person you are

  • @I0QQ0I hey, you started it.

  • !!!

  • Fantastica!!!!!!!

  • GREAT GREAT GREATTTTTTTT!

  • Heart - breakingly beautiful beyond tears.

There are no words, ever, for this woman.

She is so beyond to be beyond beyond.

    I adore her.

    Transcendant and true.

Yes, I think Chopin loved the cello intimately. Why? Because his music is vocally conceived and the cello, for me at least, is the one instrument so closely aligned to the voice.

  • and the piano she's playing is nothing like the pianos chopin used in his time.

  • she looks like the greatest pussy eater in the classical world

  • She makes me smile and weep wit her beautiful playing.... Once saw a documentary about her, she isan incredible wonderful person!!!

  • she is just great! i do not miss anything when she is playing. and her performance has a spiritual background which makes it magic. i love maria!

  • she is great! i love her..........

  • I bet she cannot play Rachmaninnoff.

  • The slow movement of the Chopin cello sonata is one of the most beautiful pieces I know.

  • please, anyone knows what's the second piece she's playing??

  • Simplesmente M.A.R.A.V.I.L.H.O.S.A.

Uma interpretação com sentimentos que fluem do fundo do coração.

    És simplesmente magnifíca.

    Parabéns!!!.

  • True Musician. I can't believe how smoothly she plays. There is no space at all between the notes. Pianos aren't supposed to sound like that. The notes should be disconnected as the keys are all separate from each other. But Maria Joao just makes them all sound like it's a smooth glide. She is truly remarkable..

  • @caricama, some pianos are meant to sound like that (concert pianos). The longer the piano, the longer the sustain of the sound. Quality also has allot to do with the sound and you can bet the steinway she's playing is one super instrument.

  • Bravo!!!

  • Man, if I had a piano that beautiful, I would play all day.

  • @Lappith :-D

  • @Lappith you should play anyhow and get one great piano later on - but well prepared, getting the most from it.

  • @Lappith if you love to play, you play on anything

  • @Lappith She had to play all day for several years in order to be allowed to play in such pianos.

  • @Lappith me to....lol

  • There's a double cd box of Schubert's impromptus by her, dedicated to the late Sviatoslav Richter. It's Just Awsome.

  • This woman has been my favorite since I heard her Mozart&Schubert. Some of the most subtle design and sensitivity tosound& meaning I know of. Really a musician!

  • Melancoly and emotion... pure feelings...

  • That's one of the themes of the piece she's playing at the begining of the video. The 3rd movement of Chopin's 3rd piano sonata. One of his most beautiful tunes.

  • What is the name of the last piece she is playing?

  • The Queen of the Nocturnes.

  • Good quality video. I hope she wins a Grammy.

  • very respectable woman in my opinion..(and hopefully in many people's : )
