Dear MJP, don't bother trying to explain it in words. We don't need it. Not after you've played it. A picture tells a thousand words. Your playing tells a million words
Yes, I think Chopin loved the cello intimately. Why? Because his music is vocally conceived and the cello, for me at least, is the one instrument so closely aligned to the voice.
True Musician. I can't believe how smoothly she plays. There is no space at all between the notes. Pianos aren't supposed to sound like that. The notes should be disconnected as the keys are all separate from each other. But Maria Joao just makes them all sound like it's a smooth glide. She is truly remarkable..
@caricama, some pianos are meant to sound like that (concert pianos). The longer the piano, the longer the sustain of the sound. Quality also has allot to do with the sound and you can bet the steinway she's playing is one super instrument.
This woman has been my favorite since I heard her Mozart&Schubert. Some of the most subtle design and sensitivity tosound& meaning I know of. Really a musician!
That's one of the themes of the piece she's playing at the begining of the video. The 3rd movement of Chopin's 3rd piano sonata. One of his most beautiful tunes.
I remember hearing her play Partita in B flat by Bach, the most alive, inspiring performance I have ever heard

She plays the piano as if she deeply needs it. It is very moving and makes me a bit jealous as well.
