  • @anything7441 Hopefully you die on YOUR birthday by the hand of one of the many "queers" you've hurt with your idiotic, ignorant bigotry.

  • The drummer looks like Henry Rollins.

  • I have seen her in concert about 5 times and she is hot in every sense of the word.

  • She heals my soul

  • Ani D. is such a Beautiful Women! A little girl with a STRONG, STRONG voice and oh, those chords...I can just melt!!!!! =)

  • She's an angel!

  • I only hope this song is even one tenth as much fun for her when she performs it as it is for us when we listen to it and see her do it...if so, she can live in bliss! :-)

  • She is fantastic, important, and gorgeous.

  • @singrachel Why don't you own a mirror?

  • Ani is god!

  • She is an inspiration to anyone. Go Ani!

  • hmmmm.... i have some friends who really really dig this woman. i wikied her background. sounds interesting. i agree with her ideals and message. but the music just doesn't do anything for me. am i missing something?? obviously shes talented. maybe its just not for me....

  • i love her, this song is my fav :) is that a guitar shes playing, it seems to have 4 strings?

  • @jibberjabberjoodrops her four string is a Tenor Guitar. They are awesome.

  • I'm quite obsessed with ms difranco :)

  • @GOTTAxLOVExIT Who isn't??? LOL

  • Hahaha very true! I got to see her in concert two months ago! :)

  • she is an amazing woman with a dazzling smile and its rar eyou hear music that has poetry stringed into it. i love her!

  • I was very fortunate to see her play this tune solo at Neitzsche's one snowy Monday night in Buffalo. It was 1987 or 1988. She was an amazing songwriter and performer as a teen. Now she is a musical powerhouse. Fun to listen to. Fun to watch.

  • lucky

  • Isn't this song about Heidi? Was she working for Ani that far back?

  • At the time I think the band was a trio; Ani, Mark Steinmuller, and Scott Freilich.

  • @iwwobblie yup

  • This may sound stupid, but I'm new to Ani's music: Who is Heidi?

  • @jmb390 I agree with you. Ani is amazing and has guitar tabs and riffs that are amazing and unique in everyway. You don't hear this kind of music everyday. It's true talent. NOT amateur.

  • @Ashleypaloozaha usually riffs are simplified for reasons of fatigue. nothing too extra here new to any1 able to play guitar. sry ani still rules~*

  • @teamhonda2002

If by any chance you're a guitarist, try to figure out how she plays the stuff that she does. Nobody asks that you be a fan of everyone you hear, but I'd request that you try to sing and play the song "Evolve" before you make commentary on her skill levels.

  • @teamhonda2002 - You definitely haven't been exposed to enough of her work yet. And Youtube isn't the place to get to know her due to the poor quality here.

  • Really, you haven't lived until you've seen Ani in concert at least once. If you're lucky you'll see her more!

  • agreed! one of my favorite live acts

  • @zoeindigo second that, her expressiveness as a live performer is second to none that I've ever seen. It's not that she sings like Aretha Franklin or plays like John Mayer, but I can count on one hand the number of musicians I know (famous and not-so-famous) who have the combination of technical skills needed to cover her songs the right way. And she sings about real stuff...it doesn't get any better than that for me.

  • This girl is like WOW!!!! Totally unique, a true artist.

  • shes one of my favorite female artists

  • Her lyrics are amazing! I'm gonna have to work so hard to drive 4 hours to see her in Dallas!! But you betcha I'm gonna be first (or third) row!!!

  • Do you have "Swan Dive" from the same show (VH1 Hard Rock Live)?

  • ??????????????

  • Saw Ani in Santa Rosa, California...great show. Her new stuff is alot less angry. Too bad - I love her anger, though I'm sure it isn't very comfy for her. I like her new stuff alot though. Too bad I missed her in Sacramento.

  • she is interesting, but those platforms on her feet, what are those?

  • Dude(tte), she's 5 ft. 2, she needs them!

  • lol :)

  • I think I might have been at this one!!! Was this the one in New Brunswick at the State Theater????

  • Awesome!

  • i want to have her babies.

  • uhhhmmm...she isn't/

  • omg i never realized that! like alanis morrisette, and leisha hailey from the l word. that is so annoying!

  • Lesbians have accents now?! I DONT!!

  • LOL :)

  • i just saw her for the first time last night..she is amazing...

  • i've been in all her concerts in barcelona, she made me cry everytime...

  • Si! ani es muy great.we luff her too.

  • you all need to go see her live. I love her so much but you don't realize til you're in a room filled with people who love her just as much to see how amazing she really is.

There is no other artist that has a fan base like hers.

I hope she feels better (tendonitis) and can continue to play more live shows. I can't get enough Ani in my life!

  • Oh Ani - a true American treasure!

  • You gotta love Ani. There's just no one else like her. Goddess bless her!

  • wow i think shes beautiful inside and out. guess it's in the eye of the beholder huh.

  • ..... are you CRAZY?

  • I tell you, it's not only guys here who thinks she's hot...

  • This is as good as it gets! :) A lovely song, an inspiring performer, and an excellent live performance!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • seeing this on tv almost 12 years ago was the first time i saw this woman. couldn't forget her. awesome stuff.

  • A few weeks ago I was flipping through the channels when I came upon this intresting looking person on The Artist Den on PBS. I was blown by her music & intriged by what she was saying. I don't know what a typical Ani fan looks like but she now has a shaved bald -mexican-tattoed-Raider fan with baggy pants as a fan for life. I don't think she would mind that either.

  • Ani is REAL because she is FEARLESS to Speak her mind and Play HER Music. . .I Wish More People ( not only in the music world but EVERYWHERE ) were more like her

  • God, I wish she liked guys! She is so sexy, and so smart.

  • Actually, she's married to one. :)

And yes, she is sexy and smart.

  • She is married to a guy?

  • Yes, she's bisexual.

  • Then she just got sooooo much hotter!

  • She likes people. She's bisexual. Not that it increases your chances at all. ;)

  • @macgum If she likes people, I don't know if she'd call herself bi-sexual, but maybe just sexual. Or pansexual, which implies that there are not just two sexes.

  • @macgum doesn't make her bi.

  • @Caelyn27Chaos no, but the fact that she likes both men and women does. *winks*

  • @GobblerTalk not so much. I like both men and women and I do not fall under the term bi, thank you very much. that is saying that there are only 2 genders, which there is not.

  • i love her.

she has good break up songs...

  • God she's so cute, gotta see her in concert again

  • i do too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • like it

  • 'They say goldfish have no memory, I guess their lives are much like mine, and the little plastic castle is a surprise everytime."

Makes me smile everytime I hear it <3

    Why is she so amazing.

  • why? because she is real

  • That part get's me every time too. This song might as well be my theme song, I've got a goldfish memory too. Lol

  • I love this song.

"quick, someone call the girl police"

    she's on fire!

  • I know she's on fire.

  • I watched her last nite on PBS "In the Artist's Den". She is a great performer, I love the line about the little plastic castle. And the way she uses language and rips on that guitar. I see a new Pandora channel in the future.

  • Soooo geil!!!!

  • I love all of her music, poems, and her in general, i think she's the cat's meow, you go Ani, we all love you

    Janey

  • She is brilliant

  • so.... you check out her videos?...OK.

  • I just love her energy and attitude. Fantastic performance.

  • her smile is contagious.

  • anyone else notice she's playing a baritone ukulele...or a Tenor guitar or something like that...it's not a bass i don't think...

  • sorry it's an acoustic bass guitar i looked it up

  • actually its a tenor guitar...

its between a regular guitar and a bass

  • A tenor guitar is actually in conventional form is tuned the same way as a viola, cello or tenor banjo. As such, it is tuned slightly higher than a conventional six-string guitar. The strings are tuned as: C,G,D,A.

  • you are right... my b.

  • A barritone uke would be smaller than this. It's a bass, but it is tuned with guitar strings, and tuned differently. Almost has a sort of banjo effect.

  • Alanis's voice is totally different on her debut album.Singing the song "Too Hot" she looks and sounds like Tiffany who was then popular.Later albums Alanis changed her vocal. This is as clear as spring water.

  • Listen to the songs "TooHot" and "Feel your Love" from Alanis's debut album of 1991 and you will hear a totally different vocal from the one she later adopted on Jagged Little Pill. She sounds like Tiffany on her debut album. Later she sounds like Ani.

  • the style is diffrent the voice isn't. Her later music wasn't dance pop thats why is sounds diffrent. She may have a similar style as Ani but not the same voice. You can't listen to "Not as we" and say- This sounds like Ani Difranco.

  • Alanis's vocal sounds similar to Tiffany on her debut album of 1991.She even looks like Tiffany on it.On Jagged Little Pill she sounds like Ani Defranco. She is a child star and music industry insider period.I am not saying she is not talent because she is very talented.

  • Alanis's debut album was in 1991 while Ani's debut album was in 1990. Also Alanis's vocal on her debut album is totally different than on Jagged Little Pill.On Jagged little pill it's totally similar to Ani Defranco.

  • What a generous performer! Ani thrives in front of an audience. I love how she's able to have fun in concert, and she always seems so relaxed and playful...anyone who hasn't seen her live needs to!

  • I love her. No, she's one of a kind.

  • Ani is a top class vocalist that others ripped off.

  • You know I have done alot of extensive listening to Ani and still don't see Alanis anywhere in her vocal approach (and you're totally wrong about the pronunciation thing Alanis has an obvious canadian dialect(Not a new york accent.) and her first song came out in 1987- before Ani she was a child yes but the voice is very much still the same. - however Jewel...Jewel mimicks difranco like no other.

  • Don't be posting misleading information.

  • there isn't anything misleading about what I post- Jewel is Folk(even more like Ani.) Alanis is pop/rock. Im sorry I know your opinion on the matter it's just one that I do and will continue to disagree with as a fan of both artist.

  • Say what you like, Ani is hugely talented. Just try playing the guitar, moving around with that kind of energy and singing complex folk and ballad lyrics. Go get um Ani!

  • she had a kid what do you want from her.... kids take up time. ya just have to catch her on a good day. she still rocks

  • To Remybecute: A negative, gloomy outlook on life is sure to get you far in life. She is a creative and courageous artist with the drive and talent to make herself player in a very competitive field without the help of a major label. She now her own label. She is to be admired.

  • I know the comment isn't aimed at me- but I have to agree and disagree with both of you. Ani should be respected for getting where she is- she is creative- highly intellegent, writes some amazing words and can play the guitar like no other...but ohhh...she just can't sing.

  • hell no man !!!!!1 she still has that energy running around with her little guitar! people have different stages in live her music going to change with her thats what so great!

  • What happened to her? She used to have so much energy and creativity, like you see here.

It's like she ran out of ideas after "Up, Up, Up"

  • She has around 20 albums released. Quite a few.

  • She does...I really can't get into Red Letter year , But Repreive was a really good album. She has a few clunkers though.

  • I love her. She looks so happy.

  • I never said Alanis was not talented I said she was unoriginal.

  • she went her own way

  • Wow...someone real. Not a carbon copy.

  • I like the fact that she seems alive.

  • Love the accordian. Just the right amount.

  • inlovewithkaile I absolutely agree with you. I only said that myself yesterday to myself. The accordion has been misused for years in music. Here it is beautiful used in this fabulous song.

  • Ani Difranco is like a Legend

  • Have I listened to Jagged little Pill which was really the breakthrough album ?? yes it was one of my favourite albums ever but I often wondered where the sound came from and I looked and then I found her Ani Defranco. I am being honest here when I say it was like finding a lost possession.

  • Hey I love Difranco- I have everything from her debut to Red Letter year and everything from Morissette Jagged little Pill through Flavors of Entanglement. Difraco has alot of more material and I will agree is a legend- but just because one is great doesn't discredit the other. I m
