@CourtneysGIRL2 because it's a hair style that is apealing to some. The black culture was not the only culture to use dreads, white people dreaded all the time years ago in Ireland. There is no problem with it, white hair dreads the same,

I don't mean to come off as a asshole, and please don't be offended when I ask you this. What makes white people want locs? I am a black women and have had locs for 4 years now. I chopped my hair and started natural with my locs for spiritual reasons. Why did you decide to start yours? style? the trend? or some other reason??

ah, there are lots of reasons, alot of people get it because it just looks awesome. i am white, from the caribbean (barbados), i guess i could consider it part of the caribbean idenity, but i would be lying if i said thats why i want dreads. i have looked into the rastafari religion and i like it, but this is contrivertial since people get ofended by others picking and choosing religions. my main motivation to get them would be the look. but the main thing holding me back is the stigma attached

Many many many different cultures and races in history have had dreadlocks throughout history, including white people (the Celts for one). I'm sure there are many reasons why a white person might get locks, the same as there are many reasons why people of any colour might choose locks. They do not belong to any one spirituality or race (not that you were implying that, i'm sure :)) so who knows? I hope this comment didn't come across badly, I wasn't trying to annoy anyone.

It seems to be one of those things that's becoming color blind. My friend got his so for the low maintenance and because some of his metal idols have them. I myself love the look.

crochet needle for locking straight hair is the best way to do it..IMO.

do you even have dreads because going to a "black salon" isnt really the best a black dude has way different hair then a white dude and twisting does not work for white ppl unless your hair is really fucking curly

not true. I am an African American woman with long locs( 10 years old) and the video is great for straight "white"hair. The thing with dreadlocks is there is no real conventional method. This method, in my opinion is the BEST method for locking with straight hair.

DreadHead Jess's locks ( once they were fixed) looks like a well kept lock.

hey, like that fact that you actually went through with getting your locks. that hook, like mentioned below, maybe too big and the wrong type, but it does look like it is getting the job done, lol. i want to get locks but it is too hard doing it alone. and i dont trust my friends lol

easier ways, better ways.. its just technique with the crotchet hook and how you weave the loose hair back through the hair, you can get it to look a lot more uniform. Biggest tip i can give anyone is to pull the loose hair back through the same knot horizontal to the dread until there is no more loose hair at that point along the dread, that way it will create a knot in the spot and not just be dragged back up or down the dread. msg me for more info

Great video. Thats not a latch hook. My dreads were made with a 0.75 and 1.00 sz crochet hook too. That's the method that's used in Thailand. It actually didn't take that long at all for mine, and I am asian, female with long straight hair.

This is only one way to achieve locks. I am white and have locks but don't do anything to my hair. I just let it grow, let the hair tangle, and then rip the sections apart so I don't end up one single matted mass of hair. Dreadlocks are inevitable for anyone if you just quit brushing your hair.

So ignorant, I'm an Irish Celt and the ancient Celts locked up their hair. Caesar was famously quotes saying "the Irish have hair like snakes" Everyone's hair no matter what colour their skin is their hair will lock if unbrushed its our birth right to dread our hair. Even Some Pharoahs dreaded hair.

um yea actually they will positivly absolutley get you anywhere! real dreads are not made with wax, hooks, toys, glue, extensions, nothing. tangled hair, water, and shampoo is all dreads take.
