@stevie68a great writing, great song, and of course the First Lady of Song... I've heard others sing this, but it's really rare and an occasion to hear Ella singing it.
Thanks Ella. Without the 'Nobody' detour; parts of this would have kept it in my top five fave renditions.
Cher did the movie outro, produced by Sonny, for 1966 Michael Caine film "Alfie"
Cilla Black owns this great song, for those who "get" the movie.
Dionne Warwick owns it for all other circumstances.
In her defense, Cher's track for the movie and another "take" done for a TV stage may be the only songs she ever failed to utterly ruin with her phony inflections.
@jjpmstd At this period Ella was trying different things. I like the detour, which if you think of it. Was totally her style. You got 10 songs in one song sung by Ella... She was tired of singing the same song every night and I'm glad she did break up the mix. Not that she would go on to do Alfie on an album, but Sarah Vaughan did...Put this up, because it was something different , and audio from a concert still unavailable and unissued
This is s lovely version, but Ella hardly wipes the stage with Streisand and/or Warwick. They are different interpretations. Saying one is better than another misses the point of artistic performance. Cher's is good too for that matter.
The greatest singer ever PERIOD! You see why they called her the "First Lady of Song". And to think, by this time she was considered past her prime, but eventhough singing a song recorded by women half her age (Warwick, Streisand, etc.), she still easily wipes the stage with them.
Did your ex delete your channel during the breakup as a way of being a jerk? If so, it was a good thing you cut that bitch loose lol. Anyways, thanks for this wonderful upload!
@newstart2009 I think cause it's one of the most ingenious songs ever written. We get the golden rule allusion, I believe in God but if he doesn't exist, it's okay, cause I have your love, and it was all written about the very dashing Michael Cane who by the way is coming out with a new movie at the age of ?????(75) This song will endure forever. One of the greats by Bacharach!
Bacharach/David genius. Great by almost anyone singing it, including Barbra,
Dionne, etc.

Extraordinary rendition. The interpolation of "You're nobody till somebody loves you" is fantastic!

I'm speechless right now....
Fantastic.
No matter how many times I hear these popular songs, once I hear them from Ms. Fitzgerald, I'm never the same.
