I think what helps make "The Office" so marketable is the casting. With only a few exceptions, the entire cast is comprised of characters we've all encountered at some point or another. What they all have in common is that they represent a litter of "underachievers", for the most part. They all have insecurities that they wear on their sleeves - and the public relates to it. There isn't a single "alpha" character in the mix. They are all harmless.

Good point. What bugs me though is Stanley hes such a cliched character, of course you have to be careful who you say that to cause some people will lable you a racist. Its a shame because I reckon the producers of the office could have really done something with the character.
