They had the paramedics on the way to the site of Horton's car almost as soon as this wreck happened but you have to remember, the paramedics can't just go flying over the wall like he did to get to him, they had to go out of the track and around just to get to him.

@conesussteve Actually, hermeygirl, my sister, and I are Jimmy Horton's nieces. Our mother, Cyndi Horton, now Cynthia Holt, is Jimmy Horton's sister. Please do your research before you try and insult people and call them liars. I bet that if you actually DID do your research, you would learn that Jimmy Horton has a sister, married Kevin Hermey, had three daughters, and got divorced. I personally see no reason for someone to lie about being a relative to someone who used to race in NASCAR.

I remember watching Horton race at Fonda speedway a few years later in 358's. He flipped out of the track, and the only thing that stopped him from going in the Mohawk river was a tree that he hung from.

They had to get a crane to get his car out of it before they could get racing again.

i read something on a trading crad a while back about him having internal bleeding, partial paralysis, injuries along those lines.....but that he made a full recovery

Smith competes with impaired vision in his left eye, which he injured in a July 1993 crash at Talladega, Ala., during a Winston Cup race. He suffered multiple injuries in that crash, including a severed aorta in his neck, a fractured skull and some broken bones. The incident left him with very little peripheral vision in his left eye, said his wife, Delphia.

That was a crazy race. Horton went over the wall, Stan Smith almost died, Bonnett flipped into the catch fence, and Rusty flipped right at the finish line and still finished in the top 10.

There wasnt a catch fence there at the time that got damaged, unlike the similar Ricky Craven crash.

This wreck occured in '94 or '95. Because of this incident, there was a fence installed in the turns. In '96 there was a similar wreck with Ricky Craven where he would have gone over the wall but got thrown back onto the track like a tennis ball.
