A calorie is the amount of energy necessary to raise 1 GRAM of water in one degree centigrade (from 14.5º to 15.5º if I can remember). A kilocalorie raises a liter :D
Smart person! I remember being surprised when I found out that the "calories" in food are actually kilocalories after I stumbled upon a site that used the term in their nutrition facts for recipes.
@julinmorgan yes, that´s what the lady correctly said, the Calories of the nutrition facts of food are kilocalories. a diet of 2500 Calories a day is the same as saying 2500 kilocalories.

@mmgoicochea la definicion de chavofg350 esta bien,es la energia que necesitas para subir 1 grado la temperatura de un gramo de agua pura (destilada, densidad 1g/ml) El error que parece que comete el doctor puede ser porque en el hambito alimenticio usan Kcal y cal como si valieran lo mismo aunque 1 Kcal (kilo caloria) son enrealidad 1000 cal. pero parece que no les importa porque nunca lo pusieron bien
