Oh sorry. I thought you were talking to me haha. My advice is to listen to your private teacher and see what they say. I know college bassoon performance majors who play on a Fox 220 or 240 until they go for Grad school.
Hey, this is really good. I'm a hopeful bassoon major, and so I have a couple questions for ya if you don't mind answering. :)
One, what brand and model is your bassoon? I've been working on a student model (something that I find quite disappointing) and yours looks pretty nice.
Two, how many years have you been playing? You have great intonation, and it made me wonder how long it took you to perfect that.
I'm a junior in high school and also want to major in bassoon and I'm looking at colleges right now. How's the music program and bassoon teacher at Washington???
The overall music program at Univ Washington is alright. However the bassoon professor, Seth Krimsky, is amazing. He is the reason why I chose to go to UW (even over other top ranked conservatories).
i was wondering if you had the sheet music or even the notes..... I love playing my bassoon. and i love this song. so if you have the music or can tell me where to find that would be great.
this is better than everyone lol, HE ACTUALLY PLAYED THE FREAKIN TUNE, i am an expirenced trumpet player and i hate those other trumpet players who close their eyes and play really high pitched to show off, personally IT HURTS MY EARS, bassons rule, my freind is a basoonist by da way
you're really talented! Do you want to study the bassoon after HS? Classical music? You should apply to Aspen Music Festival, if you do...I think you'd love it! Best to you...
Thanks!! I am applying to music conservatories for college to study bassoon. I went to the Tanglewood Festival last year. I really wanna go to the Music Academy of the West. That place is the shizz
I'm auditioning for NEC, Colburn, Oberlin, Roosevelt, Rice, University Washington Seattle (amazing professor up there), and Cal State Long Beach (close to home and great professor).
Did you see the superbowl commercial? "I play the oboe." :)
So, since you are auditioning for Oberlin, would it be alright if I forward your video to George Sakakeeny? I played on a recital with him last weekend...he's a really great player and person, so I hope you get to study with him!
No I didn't see that I was actually on a plane to Chicago during the superbowl lol. Funny you mention George Sakakeeny, I just saw him like last week. If you want to forward it to him. I completely agree he is a great player, teacher and person, I really liked him.
How exactly do you know which school you want to go to? So far, I have loved every professor and school I have visited. I feel that my choice is going to based a lot on scholarship when I know it shouldn't be. Ugh it's so confusing!
Don't worry...you'll end up where you should be. Just go for whichever teacher you think is the best out there and the right one for you. And then, work your butt off!!! :)
You can find the oboe commercial here on youtube if you search on "oboe". It's really a good one...of course, I'm not biased just because I'm an oboist :)
Oh yes, in fact i do, but not the bassoon, lol. I am aware however at the level of skill required to play it as well as you did. I understand the bassoon is not a very easy instrument to play, even though you make it look so.
Well it is like any other instrument with a few acceptions that make it difficult. Making reeds is a never ending process that can always be improved. Playing is pretty hard in comparison to other instruments, but I love it so it doesn't matter. What do you play?

That is pretty cool. I recommend getting a teacher though. They can teach you how to make reeds and guide you as a player.
