  • @bigjumpgirl Too right! Great place and everything there!

  • it really isn't worth coming to felixstowe. the sand was imported and lots of it has washed away.

  • The pier is closed like a lot of Felixstowe.

  • Originally this pier was one of the longest in the country at 800m it had it's own train to take visitors from the end to the promenade. Royal Engineers destroyed part of the pier (taking it to 136m) during WWII.

The council sold it to a local business for £1 on the proviso that they clean it up and make it safe and use it as a pier should be. It's still rotting away and in 2004 the owners applied for a demolition order.

It makes me quite mad as a local to see how it's declining.

  • Why on earth can't somebody pull there finger out, and repair the pier, are they waiting it to fall apart completely!!

  • yes, I've been there in 1979 and I used the broad yellow slide every day! there was a blow-up orca as well on the pier, but I doesn't remember what was inside. I only remember it having windows! Man, back then, it was the golden area of arcades! at felixstowe they had all kind of arcades some to be seen in Germany about one year later!

  • I used to slide down the big dipper on the end of this pier... Also, there used to be a lookout area at the end when the HSS used to sail out of Felixstowe docks and cause big waves... That's probably what closed the pier !
