there is no comparison in my mind as to Panic's version as compared to this, none. Trey's version misses nearly every guitar lick and signature notes. And no, the horns do not belong as a cover for this - why the hell would it? Gimme a break. Panic's version is on YouTube and it's worth listening to. Trey makes this song a gimmick, nothing more.
@mrsoulco went and listened to two versions.....you must love the hell out of panic....jimmy is not panic....houser was/is and I quit seeing them dudes after he passed. fyi i have seen them over 60 times and trey eats their version with ease.... jb needs to speed that up 2 times, i honestly had to fight sleep during "WSP" versions....
sure you can. plenty of bands cover this live and do it well. this is a guitar song, with important parts, and its a hack job at best that trey does. he is better than that but doesn't show it, why the hell not? he is right, though, it ain't what we call rock and roll
Also, I listened to the Panic stream live so maybe I am a little more dicerning about what I heard b/c the stream was so crystal clear and the sound quality in this video leaves quite a bit to be desired. Jam on!
@funkymeter411 To each his own I guess. I thought Jimmy missed quite a few licks on the WSP version and they were missing the horns which I think are a must for this cover. Given that it was the first time Panic had covered the tune and Trey has done so a few times over the years, I do cut WSP a little slack for that. I think Trey could have been turned up quite a bit in the mix for his cover but then again I do not know how it really sounded b/c this is just a camcorder video.
Way too much horn, agreement w/straitview and mrsoulco as well.

@mrsoulco you can never compare the sound of a live song to the sound of a studio version

lil jam at 3:36 is sick, not as good as knopfler's ridiculous finger-picking but trey puts his own style on it.

TAB, as usual, rocked that night. I'd love to see Phish play this album as a Musical Cover one Halloween. They would do it justice.

This version kills the version WSP tried to pull off. Sorry boys but Trey wins.

@sdubberl Dude, I love Trey as much as anyone, and prefer Phish to Panic 100 times out of 100, but Jimmy Herring put Trey to shame on this cover...
