@pogogo51 Probably the case. I never went past first year of high school with orchestra, and before then we always called them bass cellos, which match what you just described.
@mooglenaur I mostly just stood next to a cello for a couple of months. Playing it was actually really fun, but we had to sell it so I never really got past learning the basics of playing it.
Just finished the "Black and White" Octavia fic...this fits so well its unreal... All her loneliness and regret laid out by the music....
