I think creativity is born through improvising. So are al kinds of technologies for that matter. Usually the most brilliant discoveries and arts are found while trying something else. Even failures bring knowledge and skill. Plus it's fun. All my talented friends do the same thing. Yes structured education is important however we should always think outside the box and keep the mind free to explore. Boundaries are just restricting.

Improvising is the greatest, I can spend more than an hour straight playing piano. I'll be thinking about one thing or another, and as my emotions change, so does the music. It's the best feeling.

Dunno if you've ever seen a thing that was on rté last summer, can't remember the name of it but they sent a band into a studio and gave them 12 hours to write and record a song. Then the public voted on the best song. It was a deadly idea but they didn't focus on the actual writing process that much, they made it artsy and zaney with the camera shots. I've been fixed on the idea of bands making videos of their thought processes behind songs ever since =]

Hey Garreth, as a jazz player i'm a big fan of improvised music. All music lives from the moment of performance, so i suppose even classical music is a bit improvised. Ok, improvising lyics is a lillte bid hard...anyway a lot of good moments in your performance... i like it!
