  • So what do you use for the liquid part; oil or animal fat? Do you use yeast or baking powder?

  • So how is the bread on the inside ? It looks nice and crispy on the outside so is it like a tortilla or something ?

  • @vangard213 The bread on the inside is delicious! It's nice and soft. Yeah, it's a sister to the tortilla lol.

  • @candicelove83 I've been making the Blackfeet version and love it ! I got my wife hooked on it and she is always wanting me to make fry bread. We use powdered sugar on it so we forget all about calories when munching on this sweet treat.

My next feat will be to try the Navajo version. Good video's keep up the good work !!

  • the frybread looks really yummy, i'd eat it in a heartbeat! and my first time seeing how the navajo bun is made! thanks for sharing!

  • This was an AWESOME video. Ya'll made me laugh. It reminds me of the good times I spent visiting my relatives on the reservation. Too many good memories from when I was little. I miss home sooo bad at times. I had a few male cousins who made delicious frybread and hot ba'h (spelling?) and I considered them pros too. I live in Texas and the frybread comes out flat here. A friend said the same thing who lives in Florida. We even hauled blue bird flour back to our homes...haha. I miss shi'ma now.

  • Thank you! I'm glad it made you laugh and that it brought back good memories. Your spelling of "ba'h" is as good as mine. I'd spell it the same way. Hmm, I guess the elevation out here on the rez is what makes the bread nice and fluffy. We've hauled blue bird out to my brother in Phoenix a few times too. I think it beats all the other brands of flour. Go Blue Bird! I'm sorry you're missing ni'ma, but I'm sure all the good memories you think of bring you some comfort. Take care :D

  • LOL, I tried 2 make frybread (since my boyfriend does all the bread making and I cook) but MAJOR cause a flare up. LOL, no more bread making 4 me.

  • LOL! That probably would've happened to me too. The times I tried making it the bread came out either too thick or crispy lol.

  • Gurrllll Just knows how to make his bread :) I saw him at Charlies before..

  • Thank you for taking time to record. It's important now, but a longtime passes and it will be priceless.

  • MMM... fry bread nizoniie. Now I also miss my long hair. Cool video and love Delphine Tsinajinnie. Hagoonee'

  • We're all comin over to your house tonight to eat some! YUMMY!

  • Cool! Thanks for sharing. :)

  • Gahh i really wish my Grandpa coulda taught me how to make traditional fried bread before he died. He knew how to cook everything =/

&& your mother has beautiful hair =]

  • awesome video, all you need to make are some beans lol :P

  • Your brother is funni! That's true about how a lady wins a man's heart quote, I did...lol...

  • Yeah, he's a hoot lol. You did? Cooool!

  • Please, could anyone send me the words and the melody of the song for the Beautyway Ceremony. Please write a personal message to me. Thanks a lot.

  • the fryed bread looooks soooo good

  • NDN soul food, aye! This Crow makes Dine style frybread, the man who named me was married to a Navajo and she taught me well, Navajo make the very very very best frybread!!! Thanks for this tasty looking posting!

  • Oh yes, it most definitely is soul food. I remember trying frybread from another tribe out in Alberta. It was sooo different compared to how Navajos make it. Still yummy, but just different. Thank you for the comment! :D

  • ive always seen those navajo buns at sundance but i never knew how they did it..

    that is so neat!!

    great video!!

  • Thank you! My mom just made the bun anyway she could. I'm sure there are other ways to do it. Still, thank you for the comment :D

  • i make fry bread but i could never do it with my hands like this, i cheat and use a roller.

  • I'm a navajo living in PA, and seeing this vid definitely brought me some comfort. You go girl! Ain't no diva unless you can make frybread!lol

  • LOL! Thank you for the comment. I'm glad the vid brought you some comfort. Take care :D

  • Thank you so much... I miss being home. I love frybread and miss it so much... so thank you... :)

  • You're welcome. Thank you for the comment! Take care :D

  • LOL she goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • U GO with ur frybread, that is way awesome!!!!

  • HHHHMMMMMM!!!!!! if it wasn't after 2 am i would be making myself some navajo tacos right now:( i have to admit tho this is the first time ive ever seen a guy make navajo frybread:D

  • Do you ever think someone would invent mini-Navajo Tacos? Just like mini-pizzas they'd be great for an after school snack or late night snack lol. Yup, it is pretty rare to see a guy make Navajo Frybread. My other brother (with the bun) knows how to make it too. Years ago, my mom taught her fifth grade class how to make dough and frybread. I believe some of those guys still make frybread and tortillas.

  • Tacobell stole the Navjo Taco from us and called it the Gordita !!!!!!!!

  • lol.."SHE SAID"..dat wat they say n cornfeild and greaswood..haha

  • is the navajo language still spoken between the navajo indians? I mean inside the families, you with your mother etc or is just somethin that only old people not and even, not very much?

  • Yes, the Navajo language is spoken inside families. I don't speak it fluently, but my parents talk to each other in Navajo. There are some youth that speak it fluently, which is awesome. It sucks that I don't speak it though.

  • yes maybe you will have to study it more. I'm happy to hear that navajo language is still spoken by some people, I hope all your people learn navajo. You all have to work to keep the language and try to write all you can about the language and about your traditionsto to don't lose them.

How do you say Hello in Navajo? I have a friend from santa fe nm who is half navajo since his mother is a navajo, his name is Tinco and he told me that in navajo it means sparrow is that true?

  • Ah yes, that is so true that we have to work to keep our traditions going. "Hello" in Navajo is "Ya'at'teeh". I'm not sure what "Tinco" means, sorry.

  • no don't worry. I hope navajo language and traditions keep for all life. There is any school that teach navajo?

  • Yes. I believe some high schools and universities have courses that teach the Navajo language and culture.

  • oh man..this is perfect..very nice in the cast Iron skillet..good job!.....then put a little honey on it....HEAVEN!!!

And the Navajo bun is very cool. thanks for sharing this awesome video.

  • You're welcome and thank you for the comment!

  • Flatten that dough quick, I could never do it that fast, lol.

  • ......mmmmmm

  • tha fringe supposed to hang from tha back of tha tisyellth..and tied n tha back..just letting yall know...

  • For the men, the tsiyeel is tied in a little knot in the back with no string hanging down. For the women, the tsiyeel is also tied in the back, but the knot is tied with string left over so it can hang from the back.

  • man, me and my friend have been trying to make frybread for awhile now. its kinda hard to make if you dont have anyone helping you, and we cant get the consistancy of the dough right, it gets too sticky, or doesnt get doughy enough.

  • this is a great video thanks for posting it, it reminds us all of how we do things and where we all came from. it also reminds me of the old days and how we used to help each other

    in the kitchen.

I love speaking in the Dine' language, I have no choice when I go back home cause thats all my dad speaks.

  • lol @ sheee said. jeeeez.

  • don't care what peepz say or what those self-hating Navajos think I am PROUD of being a full-blooded Navajo

  • Right on! Same here. Although I don't speak the language, I'm not trying to be anything else. I am who I am. Thank you for the comment! : )

  • Thanx for posting this vid, it makes me homesick.

  • candicelove83: Tlazo'kamati* for sharin' this excellent and very interestin' vid! That Fry bread looks delicioussssssss! As for the Navajo bun, ya brothers are cool for not forgetting the ol' ways, and that song wuz so cool, ever think of makin' a CD, if so, please don't forget your YT fans and tell us so we can buy it!

    *Tlazo'Kamati is Thanx in nahuatl(aztec).

  • qualqui: Thank you for the comment! The song is actually sung by a woman named Delphine Tsinajinnie. She has some CDs out, which is where I got the song. Again, Tlazo'Kamati for the comment! : )

  • I have a feeling that you're the only other person who knows about Delphine Tsinajinnie other than myself and a few others...I only have her Mother's Word CD. I really like her music but I can't find anything else. Check out my vid, I have her music featured in it. hahaha

    Nice vid!

  • Yeah, she's not really that known. I also only have her Mother's Word CD. I like to go to Cool Runnings to browse through the CDs there. I haven't been there in a while though, so Delphine might have some new stuff. Okay, I'll check out your vids lol. Thank you for the comment!

  • the fry bread looks soo unhealthy...

  • unhealthy, but good like, once a month. hahaha.

  • You look purrty....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I'll try the bread ... of course !

  • i'm sorry about what i said, some guy named xxxasleep is pickin on navajos, it got me so frazzled in the past two days & it really ticked me off. your movie was great!

  • Ahhh, I see. People like that suck balls. Don't let what he said get to you. Most likely he doesn't know shit about Navajos. Hell, he's probably some pathetic bum putting others down just to bring up whatever self-esteem he has left in his sorry ass. Thanks for the compliment on the vid!

  • I heard about xxxasleep, but I didn't pay him any mind. He's trying to be funny, but you know those mexicans. hahaha They like to be extreme.

  • This made me miss home.

  • so, uh, ya helpin in the extinction of our culture by spreading it to others who wanna take, keep, & crush? no wonder our elders call us the dead generation! (go ahead hate me.)

  • No. I don't see it the way you're seeing it. I respect your assumption about it, but that is not what I am doing. I don't believe in hate. So, it would be difficult for me to hate you. Thank you for the comment! :)

  • This is so cool- And props to the actors, or great navajos...

  • I respect this clip....... It was really good. Keep making them!!!

  • Nothing beats a good piece of fry bread.

  • OMG CRaig, Its me SHANE leeson friend from NAU . lol major BA' :) great job shee sayz

  • Miss Candicelove83, your video brought tears to my eyes. As I watched the tying of the tsii yeel, along w/ the beautiful sacred song, I was taken back to my grandmother's loving hands running through my long hair as a child. It's been 27 years since my ma'sani left this world. Ahe'hee for bringing her back to me. Peace little sister.

  • Wow. I am so glad the video brought back such a sweet memory. Reading your comment made me think of my ma'sani, who left this world four years ago. I remember when she used to play with my hair. Grandmothers have hands like no other. Thank you for bringing my grandmother's memory back to me as well. Take care.

  • My grandma is sick right now. With cancer. It's a shame that all her awareness and memory is still sharp. She still talks to us about her wish to return home, herd sheep and live normally, but it's sad that she won't do it ever again.

  • That sucks that your grandma is sick. My late grandmother had cancer too. When she was in the hospital all she wanted to do was get home. That is definitely where the saying "Home is where the heart is" comes from. Their hearts belong home. I wish your grandma the best, and hope she defeats cancer.

  • She died two weeks ago, but we got to bury her in the mountains, where she used to live. She was very old, about 91. It's a sad thing, because there's a lot that she didn't tell us, because she ran out of time.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. That's good that she's buried where she used to live. 91 is a mighty long life. I'm sure she had plenty of stories and teachings to pass on. It is sad that she didn't get to pass them on. Guess that's what happens. Now she's an angel looking over your family. Keep your head up :)

  • I understandwhat you are going through my grandmother (Nali') is very sick and in the hospital and cries about going home. If all goes AOK she well soon.

    ~Michael

  • kaaa your bro is jus dadii glehee lol

  • the same fried bread is done in New Mexico and is called sopapillas

  • Not really. There is frybread in New Mexico, but in Mexico they call it that.

  • lucky in the hopi tribe girls are suppose to cook.yea well i think girls are the only ones that but there hair in a bun, I THINK.

    _ hopi girl

  • Glad I'm not Hopi. Just kidding lol. I'm pretty sure with the Navajos us gals are supposed to be cooks too. Damn! lol Hmm, I have yet to see a Hopi guy with a bun. I should ask my dad's aunt, who's a groovy Hopi lady. Thank you for the comment!

  • whoo love a man that can cook haha jk but yeah a lady that can cook can def keep her man an his heart usually......LoL

  • Ohhh yeah! I love a man that can cook. Of course not a lot can, but just helping in the kitchen is a huge plus! That is true that a woman who can cook can definitely keep her man filled...mmm hmm! lol

  • hahaha.. that was my favorite quote too... "this is how a lady wins a mans heart".. hilarious.. yet so true! lol

i loved your mothers hands in this clip :) reminded me of my ma's :) tell her i said that! she has BEAUTIFUL NATIVE HANDS! lol :P

  • Thank you for the comment! Yup, that was a funny quote. My brother is funny.

Okay. I told her what ya said about her hands. She said, "Aww! I have cool hands. Aye!"

  • lol

yay!!! lol :P all natives are funny (in my opinion..) never met anyone funnier than a native :P hahahahaha

  • Yeah, that's pretty true. Whenever there is a gathering of some kind, natives are usually laughing. Of course there are some uptight natives, but oh well, everyone is different. Personally, I'm happier being happy lol. Take care and be happy!

  • Natives are a laughing people, contrary to what many think. It's too bad that some of us can't laugh at ourselves when other people make fun of us though. It's really controversial, I know.

  • "This is how a lady wins a man heart!" LOL. That was so cool! I'm so home sick now!!! I miss my mammy and pappy!! :0( Cool Video!

  • A dude making a frybread is something.....very cool. Thx to one who clip this video.....anyway my first caln is Salt People clan. Bye!!!!

  • Thank you for the comment Rezninja! I agree, it is rare to see a dude making frybread. You should see him make a whole meal! It's amazing! My other brother (with the bun) can cook too! My first clan is Bitterwater (Todichiinii) and second is Cliff Dwelling People (Tsenjikini). I believe my second is the same as your first. So, we're cousins! Cool how the whole clan system works huh? lol Take care and once again, thank you for the comment.

  • Me too! I'm also a Todich'ii'nii/Tsenijikini.

  • Cool! We're practically sisters then lol.

  • It's nice to see a Navajo boys making frybread, and having a bun, u hardly see dat nowadays. Who sang the song? Very nice.

  • Thank you for the comment. I agree, it is kinda rare to see Navajo guys making frybread and sporting a bun. I guess my mom taught them well huh? lol Delphine Tsinajinnie sang the song. Yup, it's an awesome song!

  • yaah'ah'teeeeeeeeh...lol...luv it...ok so yea i'm waiting for the clip on butcherin a sheep lol

  • Yeah, I would have to agree with your profile, you are a bit weird, dorky, and cheesy. :-) But NOT obnoxious! Nice video! My wife is Navajo, her clans are Táchii'nii & Tó'áhaní. She got her degree from Oregon State University. So, stay in school, no matter how slow you go! I wish you well. Hágoónee' for now.

  • Thank you for the comment! Yup, I'm a weird cheesy dork and proud of it lol. My clans are Todichiinii and Tsenjikini. Thank you for the encouragement! I wish you the best as well. Hagoonee.

  • I want a man to make me frybread 4 once!

  • interesting! loved it!

  • Very nice :)

  • Hahaha.. more like the way give a man a heart attack.. Frybread the silent killer.
