Calm down. LOL. Indie simply means 'not assigned to a major record label'. If you consider 4AD a major record label then they are not indie. Otherwise they are indie. It's a label. Don't read - listen!

are you fucking kidding me? not only are the breeders an indie rock band, but they are one of the best and most important recent vintage indie rock bands of the independent music era. this happened before the word 'indie' became a style adjective more than an ethic. the breeders helped create that sound.

the breeders are with the same label as blonde redhead, pale saints, lydia lunch, the birthday party, and the mountain goats to name a few. all noteworthy, all independent.

not very many bands can afford to release everything themselves. you can join a small label and still manage yourself and own the rights to your masters. all it does is make it a little easier to distribute your records. there's no sense in starting your own production company when your time would be better spent, like, playing music.

im replying to your last message i think now seeing as im aspiring to be a musician i would sincerly like to thank you for that info so if i do get into some kind of label ill be able to do what i WANNA and im not being a prick its just i just dont like the word indie thats all because to me some people make it out like almost everything that some people do that is practicly throwback music and perceive it as uniqe and original but thanks dude

I think people view "indie" differently. Technically I suppose they are, but when some people hear "indie," they think of that cliche distinct image/sound or box like music definition, and *then the not assigned to a major record label thing, which makes them react quickly that they are not indie.
