  • 2:07 - sweet transition

  • 9/8

  • Things get very quiet and surreal when I hear this song. I like it.

  • Amnesiac's version or This one? Mmmh :/

  • @86JM86

Shut up, haha, you're only mad because you think it's in 9/8. 9/8 would be like 3/4 if every quarter was split into 3 triplets. 5/4 is 5 quarter notes in a measure, which is what you have here. Actually I think someone mentioned 10/8 and that's actually more correct, but it's trivial

  • @unicornicopia10 the official sheet music says 5/4, but I've seen it listed in 9/8 and played successfully plenty of times. Who can tell?

  • @mull20641 Who can tell? Anyone with a basic knowledge of time signatures. And it is in 5/4.

  • @timbar4 Stop asking people to like, it's childish. It's only provocation dude

  • Just to clear up some confusion, like my comment if this song is in 5/4.

  • @timbar4 whats 5/4

  • @brownmist123 A musical time signature where the beat is counted on a quarter note, and each bar contains five of these beats.

  • @timbar4 yup, 5/4. i originally thought 7/8 with that weird drum pop at the end of each measure, but its at a faster tempo than i thought, so 5/4.

  • it's 9/8 !!

  • @86JM86

Hey! Remember me? Anyway, Listen very closely and count to yourself. You will hear is is in 5/4.

  • release me release me

  • 10/8 more accurately, as the hardest downbeats occur at 4,6,7, and 9. Also the highhat plays 12345678910 rather than 13579

  • eargasm starting at 2:07

  • @robmadore

I'm not bragging that I can count to 5, I'm sad because others apparently can't.

  • @unicornicopia10 that wasn't directed at you, i just find it funny when people debate about what meter a song is in. and i totally agree.

  • No. It is 5/4. If you say it's not you clearly do not know how to count. There is no question.

  • @unicornicopia10 why does it matter what time signature it's in? it's just music. "i can count to 5" yeaaa!

  • @robmadore1 It matters what time signature it's in because 4/4 is inescapable throughout modern Western music and this is a band that is happy to experiment with unusual time signatures. It's about progressive or experimental values and the creative aesthetic applied to music, it's an intentional choice used for effect by the band. It makes a more rhythmically interesting song. I'm being no snob, I'm not much of a musician but I am a drummer. "It's just music" - Please.

  • @iamrichardtheadult i'm a drummer too, i've been playing for 12 years, and i play guitar, been playing for 7. i can play in any time signature, and i'm not being cocky, i learned to play the black page when i was 15, go to berklee. radiohead is one of my favorite bands, no one can touch them. it just pisses me off when people debate about time signatures, it doesn't matter. this is in 5 btw for anyone wondering. all a song needs is a consistant groove and this song has it right here.

  • @iamrichardtheadult and nothing grooves harder than 4/4, you can play anything in 4/4, ever listen to messhugah? they never leave 4/4, but there songs sound like there in anything but 4.

  • 5/4

  • @ginosupernova its actually 7/8

  • I love when bands do 5/4 time. Sounds legit as fuck.

  • @scp025 it's 3/4

  • @ginosupernova it's definitely 5/4. Either 5/4 or 10/8, but not 3/4.

  • @scp025 I wasn't sure, thanks

  • one of my favorite albums of all time! good taste kid! thumbs up!

  • This>Amnesiac version in my opinion but everyone has their own

  • How 11 people could have disliked this is beyond my understanding.

  • For me, I percieve the album being about the different stages of life as you grow up. Everything is peaceful and perfect at the beginning. Than the insanity of reality that is kept from children sort of begins to seep through on National Anthem. Than existential angst of being alive. Morning Bell for me seems to be about divorce...that's just my interpretation though.

  • @hippunkhopnroll nice way to see it! It's really a great record, and because of that i think it's open to a lot of interpretations... i like yours, it also explains the title of the song Kid A

  • @hippunkhopnroll As with all Radiohead music released after OK Computer, I'd say it goes deeper than that. I think it depicts a dark future for all mankind, sorta of "what happened after no one heard the protests made in OK Computer". Keep in mind that there are various hints of Orwellian influence, a fine example being the Animal Farm reference in Optimistic.

  • continued from the last last last comment

morning bell - this song starts out relatively normal and is the main character's original personality, untainted, fighting against his second personality. The second part of the song, the creepy last half, is the other personalities responce. The second personality seems to over come the normal, with the disturbing sounds taking over the normal sounding guitars.

Motion Picture Soundtrack - the character accepts his fate as being utterly insane.

  • ...continued from the last last comment

Idioteque - another crazy and frantic song, seeing the character in his worst. Seems to have had influence from the media/internet to put him in this frenzy "everything all of the time" and "this is really happening", reference to how interent/media shows us all this things that we are powerless to stop or control.

continued one more time D: sorry youtube sucks with this comment limit.

  • ...contined from last comment

How to disappear completely - In a depression from his breakdown the character attempts to kill himself.

Treefingers - A gentle calm after the storm.

Optimistic - The character failed to kill himself and is now empathatic towards the world.

In Limbo - The characters falls further into his own craziness, full of lyrics of "Your living in a fantasy" "I spiral down" "I'm lost at sea"

    continued once again.... derp

  • to me this album is all about a schizophrenic guy, think about it kind of make sense.

Everything In Its Right Place - Introduction to a character who is living rather normally, though something seems to be split "two colors"

Kid A - A very unsettling song, the introduction of his second personalilty.

The National Anthem- The character starts to have a mental break down, siginfied by the general chaos of the horns and track. "Everybody is so near, everybody has got the fear."

    continued...

  • and to think retarded music critics slated this album

  • @WalterSobchak1000 are you kidding? radiohead's stuff is NEVER "slated" by critics. it needs to be more, it's overrated as FUCK.

  • @blackhorse099 Everyone's a critic... that said, you invalidate your own opening argument. Smooth.

  • @blackhorse099 I see alot of comments saying this or another album is under-rated, and I have come to this conclusion: Ratings are overrated.

  • seriously what the fuck is hutch

  • @jbrauer249 he's a famous call of duty commentator.

  • @juanfranciscoh Beautiful, so we have casual FPS fans flocking to this like Twilight fans to a Muse song.

    BEAUTIFUL.

  • @CaptainPengu Who cares? Radiohead is pretty popular and people find music through the media whether it's a movie, montage, ad, simple youtube search, word of mouth, etc. They obviously like it because radiohead is GOOD.

  • @juanfranciscoh Well, that was a pretty tongue-in-cheek thing I said, sorry if it was difficult to read (it is the internet after all, can't really blame anybody).

Though I feel the media exposure really just makes the songs end up like "Creep"... and that whole can of worms. Where people only know one specific song and all that. Getting a more widespread appeal is great, but it's a shame when people don't go any deeper than one song (though this is subject to the contrary of course)

  • @CaptainPengu agreed

  • Comment removed

  • my interest in radioheads revolutionary album kid a sent me here

  • Who's Hutch?

  • LMFAO good point @Watrmln WTF is that? Anywho, I love me some radiohead since '03 that's why I'm here & forevermore

  • I wasn't sent here, I found it myself, and @BR0skiEs, personally it's all about musical discovery. This right here is like looking at a grotesque painting. Just look at the lyrics; "Cut the kids in half." Thom even said that the song was about cannibalism. People like it because it's like a high class desert - there isn't many musicians who's able to do what Radiohead does.

  • @ST0FB3RG wtf are you talking about the song is about devorce.... "cut the kids in half" is saying split them up, not literally.

  • Keep it about the music.

  • thumbs 5/4 !

  • how can someone like this? i dont even understand the tune? or the singer?

  • @BR0skiEs I don't know? What does this mean? Ever? Heard? Of? Periods? And? Correct? Punctuation? In? General?

  • @BR0skiEs admittedly radiohead is an acquired taste. a lot of times its less about the beat and lyrics and more about emotions. its not for everyone.

  • @MusicManiac2k9 Not really, the main reason not everyone listens to it is cause it is never played on the radio. Half of my friends just like the music, not really the lyrics. I can see what you are saying how its aquired taste cause it not exciting. But if you showed this to any teenager and told them that not everyone listens to this he or she would listen to this everyday. But overall i my opinion it is not a aquired taste, listen to other bands for that. Not gona say cause im kinda a hipster

  • @BR0skiEs errm what exactly is to "not understand" a tune?

  • @BR0skiEs i agree

  • Guy Capuzzo sent me.

  • Have you tried playing musical chairs with Radiohead, you have to wait till the end of the track before you get a chair... 0 o

  • it's like 3/4-3/4-2/4-2/4 all the time, more like 10/4 then 5/4.

  • 5/8.

  • fucking whore i hate your profile name.

  • From Optimistic to Morning bell, all the tracks are combined. Once I hear Optimistic, I have to follow up to morning bell.....it just makes sense to me, and I can't listen to them separately or not in order. And let me tell you, this is a great ending to this trilogy!

  • it's 5/8 folks.

  • 3:05 The drum crushed my world.

  • It's 5/4, not 7/8. 2+2=5's intro it's in 7/8.

  • so, you're telling me that you can count out 7 beats 8 times before the motif is over? I must be mistaken. I guess I should give up on drums, and guitar, and probably bass and piano too.

  • Is this song supposed to be about divorce or am I just imagining it... O.o

  • It's in 7/8. Everything In It's Right Place is in 10/4 (It's not 4ths). I know this because I've been playing music for most of my life, I counted it mysefand I checked Wikipedia. C'mon people.

  • @Vininn126 It's 5/4.
