I love my TT Classic. I use a tele for rhythm guitar with an overwound GFS bridge pickup, and the pedal is clean with the rhythm channel gain @ 10 o'clock, volume full, bass @ 11 o'clock, treble @ 1 o'clock. It seems to just about quadruple the signal on the front end of my amp. It turns my PV classic 30 in to a modded 80's Brit-thrash amp without the use of a solid state pedal, and cheaper than "boutique" solid state OD pedals. It's also nice with the gain @ 2 o'clock as a somewhat dirty-boost.
He's a "slob"? He posts multiple videos of himself doing some nice gear demos and playing like a badass and you've posted five clips from a really lousy Australian action movie with strong homoerotic undertones and actors that make Steven Seagal look like Marlon Brando. Congratulations, jerkoff.
the mesa definitely beats the blues junior, but other than that, if you get the blues junior, get the hot rod (nos) version. the only way to get good tone out of those is to crank them, and i don't like the fender special design alnico speakers twist internally when they are pushed, so get the hot rod version with the jensen speakers.
i know a guy who has a classic, and its alright, its too bright, he can't get any bottom end on it. the 5/25's are nice. and the lonestar is probably the one i would pick out of the four of those.
Hey man i have a lonestar special too. I was wondering what you think about the 5y3 rectifier. Should i switch it out with a stronger tube so that it doesn't blow out? Or you think its fine? Let me know... Ive heard of people having problems with this.. Great tone by the way.
It's a defect that Mesa is aware of, so if you are under the 5 year warranty (and haven't voided it) they will probably take care of you if anything needs to be done to the amp besides just replacing the 5Y3. Some users have reported using NOS tubes (Like Mullards and such) last longer, I've blown one in almost 2 years.
Keep in mind that if you use the 30 watt setting the 5Y3 isn't even used...I personally like the 15 watt now myself. A new tube is only like 25 bucks at the most, so no biggie
So, how much does a lone star weigh? i have a twin reverb, which i love, but i break my back every time i play a gig. it's 70 lbs, im looking for an amp roughly half of that. Mesa's web site doesnt even say the weight. thanks
he who open mouth stick foot inside. Maybe he thought of the treadmill and decided on the Lonestar Special instead. Personally, I understand this thinking. :) You could take english lessons or buy a Lonestar Special. What would you do?
are you fucking high? you must be skewing reality for you to think that a fucking spidervalve can take on a mesa lonestar! seriously man put down the syringe and come back to earth....
DUDE who posted video, i am considering this amp for my room, do you find its too loud? cheers
anyone who claims marshall is "better" than mesa is just ignorant. marshall and mesa are both great, but for different reasons. If anything mesa doesn't cut corners when they make their amps, marshall yes. Seeing as gicbe must have a third grade education, he should try and think of it like there is a difference between Single coil and humbucker pickups one isn't necessarily "better" than the other, but even less so in the amp case.
LOVE your tone - (so much I bought a LSS used on ebay early this week) can you tell me your EXACT settings? I can't seem to get the same smooth spanky tone... (not with my strats or Taylor SB. Also- do you find much vol. difference flipping from 5-15-30w? I find very little vol change?
Thanx - that helped a bit, but still not as tright as yours sounds. I've tried my John Mayer strat (pretty hot pickups) my DLX ash (much more toned down) even my Taylor solid body which is more like a LP in pickup (hotter and tintyer...) I bought mine used (6month) wondering if it's maybe old tubes (originals). On the above setups - I assume your on CLEAN as well as channel 1? What pickup are you using? do you set any reverb? how much - thanks for the info.
I'm using the CoolRails in the neck position for this one. Keep in mind the CoolRails is metered at about 9.4K in the neck while the stock pickups on your Mayer strat are probably at about 6K (maybe less). The extra output in the pickups drives the amp harder sooner and sounds "thicker" if you will.
I also am going through the SFX-03 tube preamp, which increases your output by quite a bit as well.
Class A my ass, your 'high gain' sound is the muddiest tone I've ever heard, the only thing 'high gain about you is your skool diet plan' twinky lover.
I love your posts. I wish everyone could lay it down like you limeys. Not a high gain player, if I was I might get a Bogner, Triple Rec, or maybe a Road King. Above all though I wouldn't get an ENGL, those things are for Wish-I-had-a-Mesa Limey wankers.
why can no one spell the word LOSER? it only has one 'O' in the word LOSER ladies and gentlemen. if your spelling comes out like this: LOOSER, you're just a complete fuck-tard. besides MARSHALL amps are okay, but, MESA's shit all over them!! MESA ALL THE WAY!! Marshall 2nd.
It's a good thing I don't need to cut trought in my band, I just have the occasional need to cut Leftover Salmon. I think I am looser than you, you're probably right.
U got a nice amp there! Couple things tho, U should show ppl the break up capabilities of the amps pre and power stages and not the distortion pedal! its about that f'n badass Mesa! not that pedal bro. I have the same pedal and it can make a ss fender sound just like that. oh and dicard fast food garb and clear ur area b4 filming LOL just kidding. not!
Wow you got a nice gain over there! I need to check out this amp! With your video i saw that i can get the best of clean and a good distortion without expending a lot of money buying the Road King!
Actually you've done a great job in this vid. I compliment you. Id love to hear clips of the amp mic'd, no need to sync with the video, cant you just post some audio clips? Please if you have the time, some mic'd audio clips. Thanks
Coolrails, I'd buy you a drink if you were here. I've had the SFX-03 for about 2 weeks. It sounds awsome! The sound is getting smoother the more hours I put on her. Now, with new set of strings. OH ya!!
Not a bad clip, not great, but not bad. Please if you're gonna demo one of the best amps on planet earth, please learn how to mic the amp with an SM57 and do the amp the justice it deserves. Thanks
Good call. I do have an Audix I-5, an SM57, a Rode NTK, and an AKG Perception 200 that I run into my ProTools System on my AlienWare Desktop, facilitated by my MBOX 2.
I just haven't had the time to record both vid and audio simultaneously, and sync them. Soon.
it doesn't matter about fancy equipment its all in your fingers and your ear. if you look at the insides of an amp you will find that there all somewhat the same just do a little mods and you can make even jimmy page sound clean
Coolrails, it's all your fault. Today, I'm placing an order for an SFX-03 amoung other things. Your video was partly to blame. That mild, rich distortion of the SFX-03 is what I'm looking for. Granted I don't have a Mesa Boogie, just a SS Crate amp. My Ibanez could use a pickup change. But we'll start out with an SFX-03.
It will work well for you. As a matter of fact my buddy has a SS Crate and we tried the SFX-03 extensively with it. It makes it sound like a tube amp, great touch sensitivity.
Good luck, Seymour Duncan makes great products! I also heard they are coming out with a tremolo pedal as well, the SFX-07.
You also mentioned you were going to get an SH-2 and SH-4 those are GREAT pickups. I am more of a fan of the SH-59 in the neck personally, but the SH-2 is supposed to be great as well.
Hey jewtube I am talking about you and your SS Crate in my response to audio454. That thing sure rocks the walls of the Trailer, especially with the SFX-03, no?
I had to laugh at Asianaxeman comments. The audio of "lamb of God" completely sucks. I sounds like a $200 guitar package. And for a proposed medical doctor to throw out insults like that. He needs to improve on his bed side manners.

240 bucks lol, you're even more of a reprobate than I suspected. At least your guitar tone is better than that whiny supergeek drawl you call a voice. Yank Twat.

I find this gets me where I want to go:
Gain at 12-2 (depending on your pickups)
Treble at about 10:30
Mid at 2-3
Bass at 1-2
Presence Matching the Mid
and Master to Taste, I keep mine at about 12-2 then use the Loop to attenuate, and dial the volume down.
Mids Thicken it up!
