why is it that a man who is so obviously invested into the understanding the way things are and the realistic point of view has so much trouble gaining a positive reputation? oh thats right monetary corruption of media. (propaganda)
What's funny is the government did "confiscate the gold" during FDR administration, Owning gold for something other than numismatic purposes was punishable by 10 years in prison. For competing currencies to work, which is what Ron Paul proposes, gold pretty much has to be legal tender. Its interesting that something is widely accepted by, like everyone, is a conspiracy theory in you eyes.
@gsapp59 It is not illegal, now, to own gold, and it wasn't FEMA or the Emergency Powers that Ron Paul is talking about that did it. Neither existed during FDR's Presidency. He is suggesting this will happen in the future because of FEMA and the Emergency Powers. This is crazy, because, as you said, the government did confiscate the gold, and it didn't have anything to do with any of the things that Ron Paul is talking about. Thank you for making my case stronger.
@jecarter4 He is loopy but his paranoia about currency devaluation in particular is actually well founded in history. Currency depreciation is a form of stealing and governments historically have gotten greedy to the point of destroying the money. I'm somewhat convinced his anti-war stance is more based on the fact that wars are financed by printing money than anything else. The biggest currency drops in the US were right after Vietnam and the Civil War and the Revolutionary war.
@gsapp59 I agree with your assessment of our history. To me, the conspiracy part of this clip is what's in the title: FEMA and Emergency Powers, not anything to do with gold or currency devaluation. Those topics aren't quite as much fun as FEMA concentration camps.
