I was under the impression that the whole thing was electric drums. Also, their current drummer seems to have zero problem playing the whole thing with his set.

If you watch their DVD, Jesse talks about how he recorded this whole album with v-drums; That is why it sounds like triggers, because all the drums are electronic.

I usually don't like triggered drums, but they really make the sound work for me on this album.

That bass drum is a pure trigger and the snare and toms are a mix of trigger/real sound. Don't know what you're talking about, but they definitely use triggers, both live and in studio.
