Social security is not broke. it is fine like how it is for the next 25 years and if we remove the cap from 106 to 250 as Bernie Sanders is advocating it will be funding itself for another 75 years. Social Security is not broke and you could check that for yourself
@MAZDAKPRODUCTION.... Lol Tell is why the government is Taking money out of social security to fund Overseas spending. By the way i think you're ignoring Ron pauls Main policies for a reason, Ron paul has said he will not cut social security right away because people who we taught to be dependent on it still rely on social security. But never would you focus on an issue such as Foreign policy, rather you defend a system that Ron paul does not even want to get rid of in the near future lol
@MujahidKOS Dont get me wrong I love his foreign policy but his anti Government Anarchist ideas that entail getting rid of SS makes me a Bernie Sanders supporter.
The problem with Ron Paul is that hes a rich white guy that really doesnt understand that Blue collar doesnt mean lazy, that everyone that needs health care is not just something that people abuse. Most civilized countries take care of their less fortunate in some way. The problem is that Americans are in a time of social flux, and want someone to blame, or some quick fix. And above all else, they are afraid of parting with their money for any reason. Freedom isnt free.
@howlingwolf8 Yes but people are not donating as much money anymore because of the huge taxes on our middle class. And yes I work in healthcare and I know for a fact people take advantage of our system here, but if they dont have money we dont make them pay or not treat them just because they dont have money...its not as bad as you think, but it still needs work I agree with you
I love how he thinks about which President to pick from history.. It's a tough choice and Jefferson seems one of the best. When was the last time you heard a presidential candidate bring up Jefferson as a precedent for policy?
@wipemysmile I also admire #1, and completely disregard #2. This video highlights my problems with the Tea Party. Selfishness. What happened to taking care of your own? Are these really American ideals? I actually like most of Paul's positions, but leaving the ill-prepared to fend for themselves is at the least irresponsible as a society, and arguably shows a distinct lack of caring , self-inflicted or not. Yes, I'm fully aware of the fiscal argument against it, and think it's outweighed.
@DexxterMorgan Paul's philosophy inst that we leave the needy out to dry. In fact he has said many times that one of governments FEW constitutional responsibilities is to look out for the general welfare of the TRULY needy. He wants to create a state where prosperity can be achieved through hard work and initiative. These are sound American principles that have been forgotten because of over government regulation and the welfare state that makes people lazy and unmotivated.
@wipemysmile Yes, there will always be people who take advantage of the welfare system. I don't like it any less than anyone else. But the issue I have is penalizing the "truly needy" as you call them, for the "lazy" folks. Part of my issue is the lack of faith in humanity, and I don't want to see a fellow citizen left out to dry because they don't have a church or friend to turn to in times of need.
@DexxterMorgan But its not like he would just cut the welfare system over night. He would try to ween people off of it who dont't need it by providing less government interference and more opportunity for anyone capable of working. It would have to be a work in progress and no one would be left out in the cold. They would be offered a better and more independent life. Its important to realize that freedom isnt free. It costs a great deal of self accountability and responsibility
@wipemysmile Right. I do realize that. But the argument for weening people off of it is that they already paid into it, not that they, as citizens, deserve to be taken care of if struggling. Yes, freedom does cost self-accountability and responsibility, but I would also add sacrifice. I'm all for freedom, like most others, but I'm willing to sacrifice some of my fiscal freedom for the betterment of my fellow man, and society as a whole. Just as I relinquish my freedom to murder others.
@DexxterMorgan See you just hit it on the nail and this is also another thing Paul talks about. Americans have proven to be very generous and giving so long as they have enough to make their own ends meet. He constantly is trying to shine a light on the good will of prosperous Americans who do much better than government programs. If the people aren't taxed and regulated to death they are happy to give their own surplus to the needy like you just pointed out about yourself.
@wipemysmile That's all well and good in principle, but there is no guarantee that exactly when someone needs help, they get it. Government programs are expensive and not ideal, but they are always there when you need them. It's risky to hope, when livelihoods are at stake, that a good samaritan would be in the right place at the right time. If we are going to help citizens out personally anyway, then why not have everyone on board in the form of a social program? Some things are worth the $ IMO
@DexxterMorgan I know it seems hard to imagine but these are the true founding ideas our father had and I like Dr. Paul think they were right. America of today and of the last more than 80 years is so far removed from its founding thanks to the distortion from those who want to destroy it, that this kind of thinking seems ridiculous but the truth is that despite all of our success and prosperity we would have prosperity we couldn't imagine had we adhered to the founding all along.
@DexxterMorgan The welfare state is a symptom of the problem, government interference along with hundreds of other symptoms. The idea of government providing for the people is an ancient one. The idea of people providing for themselves is only 200 years old and look what happened before too much of the old idea was sneaked back in. The new idea is the right one and history has proven it. Only Ron Paul is pushing the new idea. The rest want us to keep falling for the lies of old
For Chrissy its only ok to make Nazi posters of Bush. If you burn Bush in effigy you are exercising your rights to free speech, if you burn Obama in effigy you are a racists. Got to love the hypocrites on the left .
Chris Matthews the fascist pig that would suck a mile of Obama's dick, given thechance. Where does MSNBC come up with morons like this. I question wether he'll be able to breath after Obama is no longer president.
RON PAUL, WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR AN ANSWER! TELL AMERICAN PEOPLE HOW EXACTLY RU GOING TO CREATE JOBS? OK LETS SAY ALL TROOPS CAME BACK AND THEN WHAT? THEY ARE GOING TO SELL IPHONES AND BLACKBERRIES? DUDE BE A MEN, HOW RU GOING TO CREATE JOBS? POPULATION OF CHINA IS 1.4 B CHINESE WORK LIKE ROBOTS, BE HONEST TELL AMERICAN PEOPLE TO BUY UR BOOK U NEED CASH , U LOVE POWER, U LOVE CASH, U WILL NEVER CREATE JOBS, U HAVE NO ANSWER!
Ron Paul shape shifts at 1:472:253:50 and so on...... I just find it weird because this isnt one of those "SHAPESHIFTER" videos... No I dont truly believe in shapeshifers I just find it odd to have seen what they say in a vid that is not marked as the ones "exposing" it.
Continued to beat the working man into the ground with higher electric bills, higher gas, higher food bills higher clothes higher everything to fight someting that doesn't even exsist, also it will cost millions of jobs. The personal mandate of obamacare, if forcing people to buy somethiing against their will, if that doesn't violate the Constitution, I wonder what does, if the Constitution doesn't protect me from the govt. forcing me to buy something then the Constitution is worthless toilet
Continued Liberals want to take away the individuals' to smoke, not to wear seatbelts, it is even getting so bad that these control freak hypocrites are even trying to tell people what to eat, but they are pro choice and pro freedom on abortion that ultra hypocrisy, I don't know what is and I'm pro choice on abortion but I'm not a hypocrite that wants to ban and control everything else. And it doesn't stop there, liberals use the man made global warming lie to control our every move continued
Liberals are hypocrites that personal freedom and the Constitution that it was written to protect. They call themselves pro choice and pro freedom and get the government out of our lives when it comes to abortion and thats about it eveything else they want to take away freedom, rights and power of the individual and give government more power over the individual ie liberals hate the Second Amendment, liberals want to take away the personal freedom of people to smoke, continued
The only constituitional debate to outlaw abortion totally is to debate whether an unborn child has protected civil rights. That's the argument. To me it's just as much of a civil rights violation to deny that child a right to a life as it is to tell a black person they have to sit at the back of the bus. BTW it's interesting to me that the largest % of aborted babies, are black babies, and the liberals support that
Matthews is so offbase it's not even funny. The Conservative opposition to RvW is not to outlaw abortion, but to eliminate the absurdity that the FED GOVT has the right to make it legal. Let the citizens of the states decide. As far as a gays "right" to get married, again that is not something for the Fed Govt to decide, let the states decide for themselves. Also, i have yet to find a straight person's "right to marry" in the constitution. These are all fabricated by libs to divide us on issues
The social security system worked...it was always solvent, and in the black...until the government looked upon this money as a surplus, and "just sitting there" doing nothing...in the 1970's, they got their greedy hands in there, and they raided the fund to pay for other expenses, all the while promising to pay it back later...this has never happened.
Bottom line...our congressional government ripped off the American public.
Funny how the real truth is forgotten, in just a generation or two.
I don't see how anyone could love/hate Bush for his foreign policy and not feel the same way about Bush.
Gitmo - open. Iraq/Afghan - still there and we have seen more US fatalities under Obama than Bush. His incompetence (the left calling General Betrayus) has made the war effort worse.
He then started a new war in Libya all in the name of BP.
Extended the Patriot Act.
The TSA has become out of control under his watch, though the media dare not link the two.
they both made some really good points but ill have to say Chris won 51 to 49 i just feel that all the tea party reps want smaller gov until something bad happens to them then theyd be right in line asking for help just like everyone else hat got fucked over by the recession
I enjoyed this conversation with Chris and Congressman Ron Paul. No yelling no shouting. They both listened to each other and I thought they each made some good points.
Lot of whingers on here. It's called hardball for a reason. I think Matthews did an excellent job of grilling Paul, and Paul did an excellent job as well. This was far more entertaining and informative than some sycophantic softball promo vid...I loved the evasion on the Palin question too, very smooth. Ron Paul 2012!!!
palin is a total nwo shill. she's bought and payed for by the globalists. she'll lie like obama did. mccain is total nwo as well. the two party system is corruped to the point that our country has been completely highjacked by wall street and special interest groups. this has been allowed by the two party system. this can change really fast. we need people in office that upholds the constitution and bill of rights, and get rid of bad laws. to break the back of the two party system. fuck the nwo
Mattews, like most liberals, constantly had to change the topic as he continued to get owned. After 8 years of Hitler mustaches on Bush, fuck Matthews for being upset by that too. Where was he then?
@FallicIdol Bush was called a fascist, because he used a terrorist threat to subvert the bill of rights and enter a corporatist war. Yes, some loonies compared him to Hitler, which is a different thing alltogether. I don't recall seeing Bush pictures with Chaplin moustaches at anti-Iraq war rallies. I might not have been at the same rallies as you though. Bush was a fascist activist (so was FDR, so it's not a partisan point). Obama seems more of a fascist by default.
I never liked politics until I discovered Ron Paul. Republicans and Democrats are the same. Personally, I'm sick of freeloader dead beats. Life is tough and you're going to die. When I'm sick, the last thing I want is to be a burden on someone. Save your money for death.
@toemasie Your health care system IS a burden on taxpayers and policy-holders. My aussie father recently fell on a trail in Yosemite and broke some bones. The ambulance cost US$1800, because, he was told, the insurance companies bargained them down. In Australia, an ambulance costs what it costs to run ambulances, and the govt pays. The surgeon wanted to operate immediately, in australia he got all the scans and tests and found he didn't need an op. Everyone has*
@toemasie *private cover and medicare because private cover is cheap as chips, and you get a good chunk of it back as a tax refund. Point is, if Aussies (or any other developed nation that's not the US) wanted to "save for death" and pay the entire cost of their own health care, they'd have to save significantly less than than yanks. I like libertarianism, not anarchism. You need govt for vital economic infrastructure, like defense, transport.....and health care!
Chris, you did NOT "Grow UP" you sold out to the New World Order corp. fascism. We Either ELECT RON PAUL or America will be the NAZI nation of the 21st Century.
We should take a look at what happened to unemployment and the economy immediately after new deal policies were implemented. Things got much much worse than they were under Hoover.
I don't get the whole "versus" thing here. Ron Paul came out and advocated a moral and economic case, and Matthews responded with the modern liberal argument. Neither were vicious at all, Matthews was positively complimentary.
@andrebarakat thats how arguments/debates should be not all this yelling and bitching at eachother thats whats tearing this country apart is we cant just talk to eachother
The ONLY way to bring jobs back to America is to lower the minimum wage to $2/hr.
This is the only way we can compete with China. Paul Ryan and my fellow republicans need to act on this now. Employers also should not have to carry the burdern of paying for health care either. Go get em Paul!
@joejoepeck Perhaps not a true republican in essence. Though he´s indeed a former libertarian and still carries those peculiar traits with him. He has been running for office under the republican flagship for quite some time now. I was glad to see him come out with raging colors from the first republican candidate debate for next year´s election. Not particularly fond of any politician in the world, though I must admit Ron Paul´s policies do great in catching my undivided attention. Regards.
@FreeMason34 I can agree. I fear a little bit that the title "republican" might hurt his chances at becoming president. It seems these days people vote for the "party" instead of the man.
As a liberal, I must say, Paul is extremely charming and intelligent. That's the opposition I want to debate ideologically. Not Palins and Gingrichs.
@evenflowist Or, to be less conspiratorial, our constitution is figured to allow for 2 party rule, since we use majority rules, and not proportional representation.
Actually, Hoover did cut spending across the board, believing that the Great Depression would just naturally resolve itself if there is no intervention, he was wrong. Not only was he wrong about that, but he refused to provide any sort of nutritional aid to the starving and the homeless. FDR does the exact opposite of Hoover and things start to pick up.
Second, FDR caused things to pick up? You call the LONGEST DEPRESSION IN US HISTORY "things picking up"?? It wasn't until AFTER the war, when people came back and Truman (hate him but he got one thing right) CUT TAXES dramatically that "things picked up".
Did you know Calvin Coolidge faced a depression TWICE as bad as the great depression in 1921? He cut spending and taxes. Guess what happened after? THE ROARING TWENTIES.
@Cyrus255 The Great Depression began in 1929 on Hoover's watch. When FDR took office on 1933, unemployment was at 26%. After FDR instituted the New Deal, unemployment dropped from 26% to 12%. So, things were picking up, or "improving" since you like to play semantics, but we weren't out of the woods yet. So FDR tries cutting taxes as proposed by the Conservative Coalition in 1938, what followed was a backslide of the gains made during the New Deal.
Oh it's not ok to make mean pictures of Obama and reference the hammer and sickle with him but I never heard him complaining about people calling Bush a facist and making mean pics of him. Matthews=Hypocrisy.
@GoDrex lol. He never grew up . He just got fatter like everyone else does. Rationalization has afunny way of convincing you that you're right. lol Matthews has had years of fantasizing about these matters. He knows little of the constitution and gets his jollies by the lying and competitive nature of politics.
That was a very intellectual interview. Chris Matthews did an excellent job asking Paul the important questions, and Paul responded (although in a politician's style) truthfully and to the point. America needs these kind of discussions, because frankly discussions such as this allow the viewer to review both sides of the debate.
People expect Paul to come up with a perfect, quick solution, but it's impossible for him to do so in a system that is so deeply broke. Idiots like Matthews don't realize his ideas will take years, so tweaks can be made without completely canceling out options.
Mutual respect on both sides with each participant making excellent points about the direction of our country.
It's a discussion that needs to be had, and I disagree with the somewhat divisionist view of the poster of this video about there being any "winner" here.
The Tea Party has no more crazy whack-job, sign-waving freaks as any other party. Liberal media uses that small faction to try and marginalize the whole group. Remember the Bush-Hitler signs? Every party has their nuts. Is this really hard to understand?
@SoonerBro The difference as I see it is that the left-wing sign-waving freaks are marginalized and have been since the 70's. Whereas the right-wing sign-waving freaks are mainstream and getting more-so all the time. Palin, Bachmann, Beck, Rand and Ron Paul and on and on.
Funny how Matthews is talking about Tea Partiers putting mustaches on photos of Obama when nowadays you have all of the leftists accusing people who disagree with them of being Nazis...
Many of Ron Paul's ideas are smart and interesting. However, it is outright WRECKLESS for him to not denounce the hateful factions of the Tea Party and their dangerous rhetoric. Also, how can he possibly act as if Palin is part of the same ideological revolution that he is? That is utterly irresponsible. He has a giggly demeanor, which he uses to shrug off any claim that there is darkness brewing within the Tea Party, but ignoring it is patently irresponsible.
@noonej Just as it is wrong for the LEFTIES to deny the hate coming from their side. Why is it that they NEVER admit to it? Do they think THEY are justified? There are nuts everywhere. Left, center and right. Nuts are nuts! And Obama with a Hitler mustache? Big deal. Those fucks did it Bush AND burned him in effigy! Fuckin crybabies!
@jeffhickman10 I honestly think you may have valid points to discuss, but your tone and language is way too strong for me to want to engage with you. I'd like to conduct intellectual conversations on YouTube, but this medium seems not to be conducive to people speaking in a respectful way. Hopefully we can all learn to be more respectful and civil over the Internet so that instead of anger, it's IDEAS which are shared.
@noonej I had no idea LEFTIES were so sensitive. Usually YOU guys are the ones calling for someones death. I have never done that. But facts are facts. You guys do all the bomb throwing. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.
I like how chris just busts outs a lie saying that hoover cut gov spending and then he was called on it and then he moved on. normally he doesnt get called on his lies and ignorance. hoover was the most interventionalist president in history up to his time by far
Mathews is a OK guy but he is an establishment type. Ron Paul is an amazing person and what a leader should be. Courageous, smart, reasonable and sensible.
Very few hate signs at Tea Partys yet Chris has to bring it up. Where was he when some liberals had Bush Nazi signs? He has his own agenda.
As for the debate, Ron answered each question with good answers. Too bad people of the USA want government to spend money on them rather than taking personal responsibilty on a majority of government services.
@Polypropylganda i was referring to republican politicians, not average americans. no republican politician will criticize her becuase she has such a large following and they don't want to offend voters. but you can always tell by their word choice that they know she's full of shit.
@JamalDOA As opposed to Keynesian Democrats, who subscribe to the idea of an economy based on borrowing and spending money they don't have, rather than an economy based on savings and production.
@JamalDOA Explain how. Democrats have controlled the federal government for 3 years. What have they done? Borrowed trillions from foreign countries and spent the money on foreign imports. Printed trillions from the Federal Reserve. They've devalued the dollar and done nothing to increase production. They are no better than the Keynesian Republicans before them. An economy must be based on savings, production, and free-market principles to be sustainable.

Continued paper. Man for people who call themselves pro choice it's damn funny they are pro choice on only one thing.
TheJackiemickie 7 months ago
Continued to beat the working man into the ground with higher electric bills, higher gas, higher food bills higher clothes higher everything to fight someting that doesn't even exsist, also it will cost millions of jobs. The personal mandate of obamacare, if forcing people to buy somethiing against their will, if that doesn't violate the Constitution, I wonder what does, if the Constitution doesn't protect me from the govt. forcing me to buy something then the Constitution is worthless toilet
TheJackiemickie 7 months ago
Continued Liberals want to take away the individuals' to smoke, not to wear seatbelts, it is even getting so bad that these control freak hypocrites are even trying to tell people what to eat, but they are pro choice and pro freedom on abortion that ultra hypocrisy, I don't know what is and I'm pro choice on abortion but I'm not a hypocrite that wants to ban and control everything else. And it doesn't stop there, liberals use the man made global warming lie to control our every move continued
TheJackiemickie 7 months ago
Liberals are hypocrites that personal freedom and the Constitution that it was written to protect. They call themselves pro choice and pro freedom and get the government out of our lives when it comes to abortion and thats about it eveything else they want to take away freedom, rights and power of the individual and give government more power over the individual ie liberals hate the Second Amendment, liberals want to take away the personal freedom of people to smoke, continued
TheJackiemickie 7 months ago
The only constituitional debate to outlaw abortion totally is to debate whether an unborn child has protected civil rights. That's the argument. To me it's just as much of a civil rights violation to deny that child a right to a life as it is to tell a black person they have to sit at the back of the bus. BTW it's interesting to me that the largest % of aborted babies, are black babies, and the liberals support that
EchoMike03 7 months ago
Matthews is so offbase it's not even funny. The Conservative opposition to RvW is not to outlaw abortion, but to eliminate the absurdity that the FED GOVT has the right to make it legal. Let the citizens of the states decide. As far as a gays "right" to get married, again that is not something for the Fed Govt to decide, let the states decide for themselves. Also, i have yet to find a straight person's "right to marry" in the constitution. These are all fabricated by libs to divide us on issues
EchoMike03 7 months ago

Mattews, like most liberals, constantly had to change the topic as he continued to get owned. After 8 years of Hitler mustaches on Bush, fuck Matthews for being upset by that too. Where was he then?
FallicIdol 9 months ago

Save your money for death.
toemasie 9 months ago 3
Everyone dies. Life is tough. If I'm sick, the last thing I want is to be a burden on others. I've been saving for death since a teenager.
toemasie 9 months ago
@toemasie Your health care system IS a burden on taxpayers and policy-holders. My aussie father recently fell on a trail in Yosemite and broke some bones. The ambulance cost US$1800, because, he was told, the insurance companies bargained them down. In Australia, an ambulance costs what it costs to run ambulances, and the govt pays. The surgeon wanted to operate immediately, in australia he got all the scans and tests and found he didn't need an op. Everyone has*
mcnesta80 8 months ago
@toemasie *private cover and medicare because private cover is cheap as chips, and you get a good chunk of it back as a tax refund. Point is, if Aussies (or any other developed nation that's not the US) wanted to "save for death" and pay the entire cost of their own health care, they'd have to save significantly less than than yanks. I like libertarianism, not anarchism. You need govt for vital economic infrastructure, like defense, transport.....and health care!

Regards.

Actually, Hoover did cut spending across the board, believing that the Great Depression would just naturally resolve itself if there is no intervention, he was wrong. Not only was he wrong about that, but he refused to provide any sort of nutritional aid to the starving and the homeless. FDR does the exact opposite of Hoover and things start to pick up.
funkbrother216 11 months ago
@funkbrother216 Wrong. Hoover cut some things, but raised on many more things. Overall, he raised spending. Please know what your talking about.
calimar28 11 months ago
@calimar28 What spending?
funkbrother216 11 months ago
@funkbrother216 First, Hoover raised spending.
Cyrus255 11 months ago
@Cyrus255 The Great Depression began in 1929 on Hoover's watch. When FDR took office on 1933, unemployment was at 26%. After FDR instituted the New Deal, unemployment dropped from 26% to 12%. So, things were picking up, or "improving" since you like to play semantics, but we weren't out of the woods yet. So FDR tries cutting taxes as proposed by the Conservative Coalition in 1938, what followed was a backslide of the gains made during the New Deal.
funkbrother216 11 months ago

krakalakn 1 year ago
That was a very intellectual interview. Chris Matthews did an excellent job asking Paul the important questions, and Paul responded (although in a politician's style) truthfully and to the point. America needs these kind of discussions, because frankly discussions such as this allow the viewer to review both sides of the debate.

The Tea Party has no more crazy whack-job, sign-waving freaks as any other party. Liberal media uses that small faction to try and marginalize the whole group. Remember the Bush-Hitler signs? Every party has their nuts. Is this really hard to understand?
SoonerBro 1 year ago
@SoonerBro The difference as I see it is that the left-wing sign-waving freaks are marginalized and have been since the 70's. Whereas the right-wing sign-waving freaks are mainstream and getting more-so all the time. Palin, Bachmann, Beck, Rand and Ron Paul and on and on.

@jeffhickman10 I honestly think you may have valid points to discuss, but your tone and language is way too strong for me to want to engage with you. JamalDOA 1 year ago
