As long as the cans are from your family, and not from strangers, it's ok to pull the tabs off the cans. If they're from strangers, make the operator wear gloves to remove tabs, and have their hepatitis vaccines all up to date.
Some points: Don't weld inside the crush anvil, that's why my cans stick some times, a lot of pressure is developed during the crush, check measurements and tolerances. Don't get your fingers into the piston travel area.
