  • this is an excellent song and i think you sung it very well. i first heard this song in my bloody jack book #5 by L.A. Meyer who is my hero and i have listened to others but yours is my favorite. :)

  • There is a reason these songs have been around for literally hundreds of years. They express so aptly what the soul feels and is unable to express in any other way. As for your recording and love of the old music, it is very important because this is how we keep our musical heritage alive. Well done!

  • Your voice is amazing..... thanks

  • I looked this song up because I read it or rather listened to it in the "Bloody Jack series book 5 Mississippi Jack" You did an amazing job on this song. Maybe you should check out the other songs in the series and see about recording them as well! :) Let me know if you are interested in the other songs from the series and I'll direct you to them.

  • You did a wonderful job on this song :)

  • I like your voice

  • I know this song from the group, "The Whites"...who were in the Down from the Mountain Tour". I just went on Y.T. ....and this is the best version I've heard.

Esp. without backup, you are all on your own...but you stand tall here. Beautifully done. This song goes way, way, back....to the times when only the folks in the "hills" were doin' bluegrass, and the rest of the nation was just getting the word. Mother Maybell Carter. You do the song proud, miss.

  • so why do you sing old country music?

  • @derdelyi Because I like it.

  • @KassurinReiChan Lol ya i like it too! I stumbled upon this while listening to the Carter family i hate to say it but obviously Maybelle and Sarah didnt have the voice that you do though! Your voice is more like Anita or Helen carter.

  • @derdelyi So glad you like it! :) Thank you for listening.

  • @derdelyi old country is the best country

  • WOW!!!! you have the voice of an angel!

  • @derdelyi Thanks so much!

  • WHY haven't you made a cd yet?? I found your music when I was looking for Mary of the Wild Moor. It's a song that's been in my family for generations. (They were originally from the mountains of NC.) It used to make me cry when I was little and now my 7 yr old hears it and cries. ha. If you ever record your singing, i'll buy a cd! :) Your a capella is just gorgeous. I email links to my family.

  • Oh, thanks! :) Glad you get to sing it in choir, too!

  • Excellent job - very authentic.

  • Thanks very much! :)

  • I believe that this song was unaccompanied at first like as you sing it. After my information it was originated in the Appalachians, USA. But it sounds like if it would has old celtic roots.

However, your version is surely one of the best an for me those with the clearest text version and the most feeling. I like it very much.

  • Wow.. thank you so much for taking the time to listen and share your take on the piece. :) I really appreciate it.

  • wow, i loved your version of conversation with death and i love this one as well. youve got a beautiful voice

  • Thank you very much. :) I'm so glad you like my vidoes!

  • This is a somewhat flattened-out version of the tune - Jean Richie has an interesting one - but it's so beautifully sung I'm not complaining.

  • Yeah, I have heard several versions. :) This one is definitely less... well, elaborate than the others are. But it's from one of my favorite movies, so I decided to sing this version. ^_^

Thanks again for your kind words!

  • you sing divinely!great ol classic folk song.outstanding Maam!

  • Thank you so much! :D

  • You sing these wonderfully! Tell me are Irish or American?

  • I am American. I wish I was Irish, though. :(

    Thanks!

  • A version called "Bynch of time" was noted in England by Shakespeare in 1689, with referance made to it in Hamlet. It was later collected in England by Cecil Sharp from an English Gardener.

However this particular version Is an American varient, so this song is Anerican in the same fashion as other Ballads which have evolved but English in Origin.

Give the English some credit, we have a rich folk heritage! (It just tends to get mixed up with our neightbours)

  • Thanks! :) I love learning new things about the songs I love.

    And thanks again for listening!
