  • this pedal has a very rich thick sound i luv it

  • docent??

  • Great pedal by Boss but unfortunately this demo docent do the pedal any justice. The amp your using or the recording equipment are both shabby quality. I own this pedal and it docent hum like yours is doing in the demo.

  • @JBL8863 *doesn't. But I see your point, I haven't even heard the pedal myself but you can tell the audio quality isn't the best.

  • recorded with a calculator

  • Makes you sound more like an tube amp right??

  • The preview image of this video looks like a little japanese robot.

  • hm is it just me or does this little thing look like spongebob?

not that badass pedal, i guess it's too weak for a good sound =/

  • @FenrisRagnaroek What is that supposed to mean? If you want distortion, this is not going to give a good sound because it is an overdrive pedal. If you want overdrive, it has plenty.

  • This is NOT a TubeScreamer clone! Just Google on 'synchronic vs. asynchronic clipping' and you'll know why!!!

  • you dont need to connect it to any charger ? or you just use battery ?

  • Turn the drive up all the way and tone where ever to get a pretty cool thrash metal sound, I think. I play it through a 50 watt '67 Fender Bassman with a 2000 Squier Standard Strat. It's not as cool as fuzz, I guess, but super overdrive is more affordable by $60. I play mostly blues rock.

  • If u turn up your guitar along with a 50 watt tube amp and volume on the pedal turned less than half, it kicks ass for most anything. Turn the drive up all the way and tone where ever to get a pretty cool thrash metal sound, I think. I play it through a '67 Fender Bassman with a 2000 Squier Standard Strat. It's not as cool as fuzz, I guess, but super overdrive is more affordable by $60. I play mostly blues rock.

  • This is my favorite metal pedal. You just gotta put its drive at 4/10, level cranked, tone 4/10 or 5/10, run it into a tube amp with a fair bit of drive on it. Badass tone.

  • Hello, all. This is kind of a stupid question, but I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to pedals. I'm looking for a pedal that provides distortion, but also gives me a variety of sounds (think of Weezer, Green Day, Replacements, etc.). The catch is that I need one that's between like 30 and 50 bucks. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

  • tune your guitar dude

  • I'm thinking of using this pedal for more so a booster than an overdrive pedal. I've heard some positive and negative thoughts about it. I think it would work well added to an already high gain(high drive, already overdriven amp, etc. Whichever floats your boat) amplifier though. Any tips or comments?

  • im a big rocker/ hard rocker - would this pedal suit rock or hard rock?

  • can this pedal be used as a booster?

  • To anyone saying this pedal isn't good for metal, Zakk Wylde used it for more than 15 years.

  • my guitar not the expensive one(suitable for beginner like me). . .but im planing to use this Boss SD-1 pedal..im wondering how is the sound going to be..is the sound going to be like the quality guitar?

  • Your guitar amp is too quite. These tones will not sound the same when your peavy is cranked to a gigging volume, btw.

  • whats the song from 0:20 to 0:48? :)))

  • thats qotsa's josh homme distortion pedal, isnt it?

  • as for the tube screamer type thing i personally use a boss od-3 it does the job really well :] i do like the soft clippin on this tho its rather nice :]

  • are you and snoop dog related?

  • and the tone knob is a son of a bitch thats why u dontuse it???or what

  • What was that second tune?

You got some good tunes in there damn it :P

  • you play all the time the same song ....

  • fuck this shit

  • hearing the same parts over again isn't much fun

  • i use this in my pedal board for light distortion parts in my songs. love this pedal. keeps up with my other guitarist's blues drive no problem

  • would this pedal work good to boost leads by placing in front of a dunlop fuzzface?

  • ive done the same thing...it makes it sound less fuzzy and to me it seems to add mor midrange and treble

  • it would be a good boost for any distortion, cuz it acts just like a tube-overdrive :)

  • thats the one that Mike Ness from Social Distortion uses!!! sxdxfan-

  • this pedal sounds really nice in person

  • yah it can get a little bit of that punk sound sometimes

  • hey man i play blink 182 all the time, i just got the pedal today, and yea its almost perfect, its doest have a lot of distortion but it sounds just right

  • i use this pedal to cover stay together for the kids so it is decent:)

  • try the rat 2 it would sound perfect for stay together for the kids, I love that song!

  • yep, i have one and turning up the drive and tone reminds me of blink, sounds really similar to the "solo" riff on anthem I , dammit intro and that "i wish it hasnt been so bad" (i cant remember the name,,,its in enema...mutt i guess ...) anyway, yeah, go for it,

  • Of course this pedal isn't good for metal because it's an OVERDRIVE pedal, that's like saying OMG I crank my tube amp and it's not good for jazz. Of course not, you need a solid state amp, like a Roland Jazz Chorus. If you want something for metal buy a DISTORTION pedal... or use this to boost an already distorted signal... OMG...

  • @xxxxneoxxxx

... overdrive is distortion, Distortion is when the signal is clipped to a point of no return. overdrive is a softer clipping from when you OVERDRIVE and Op-amp

so overdrive is just describing how you get distortion...noob

  • @ChrisONGuitar1 Man, technicalities aside. If you've done further reading of how overdriving an amp makes a signal heavier or softer, good for you then. But don't call me a noob. I'm just being practical; Overdrive = Soft clipping, Distortion = Hard clipping. Overdrive: good for blues, rock, etc. Rubish for metal. It's as simple as that. You don't need to be an electrical engineer, nor do you need to know much about how an amp works. It's just guitarrists' common sense.

  • @xxxxneoxxxx soz... I have heard soooooo many people argue over overdrive distortion thing and it just pisses me off sorry man

  • @xxxxneoxxxx Actually, when playing an overdrive pedal into an already driven amp, especially a tube amp, it would work for metal.

  • @FanHalen5150 Would it? Then you would very much depend on the amp's tone. A ballsy amp will definitely give you a good metal tone if boosted with an overdrive pedal, won't it? But we're talking about amps like Mesa Boogie or Marshall kind of thing, right? I don't think you'd get a proper metal tone out of a Fender or Vox overdriven amp and boosted with an SD-1 overdrive for example. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I love learning about amps, pedals and stuff.

  • @xxxxneoxxxx Probably not, but it is worth a shot. It will most likely sound more metal through an already driven Marshall or Mesa Boogie.

  • @xxxxneoxxxx I bought this one to boost my valveking and it's incredible! OD is a very good way to make a great metal tone even better, but it doesn't really generate a metal tone on its own

  • @xxxxneoxxxx actually it is quite good, for example, alexi laiho, synyster gates both use this, and they are metal/metalcore guitarists

  • This thing is GREAT for metal as long as you know how to use it. Use it on a distorted channel and it screams. Just be careful because it causes alot of hiss but you can get used to it and turn the pedal off and on during breaks. hard to explain

  • this pedal is perfect with a marshall jcm 800

    best sound ive ever heard

  • I agree, with an already distorted amp it will add punch. I just don't want anybody disappointed thinking this alone will give them a "metal sound" although I use it through a clean channel and love the sound it produces for rock and blues. In fact, I took my DS1 out of my line and only use the SD1

  • This is not entirely useless for metal players.

I use this as a boost pedal on my amp, boosts the volume and changed the tone for solos.

  • nice, how does it work out like that, i'm thinking of getting one of theese

  • Basically: you play your amp with some distortion.

Then, when you want a boost, you press the pedal (with a tiny bit distortion and the level quite high)

this will boost the signal, giving you lots more sustain, volume, overdrive and you can adjust the tone too.

  • thats a great explanation. its perfect for solos or more expressed riffing. you can cut out a lot of mud and other junk with this pedal too.

  • distortion suck!

  • If you buy this for metal you will be disappointed. This is an overdrive pedal which simulates an overdriven tube amp before the days of distortion pedals. The sound is great but don't expect any heavy distortion. I have a DS1 distortion pedal that sounds awsome but I bought it in 1986 and I've heard that the newer ones have a different sound but I can't imagine they're all that different. Boss all the way, I've been playing for 25 years and they've Never let me down.

  • (im a 13 year old metal/death metal/heavy metal player) wat overdrive would be best for me?

  • Dude

Check out the Son of Hyde from Visual Sound

It has great tone with some noise suppressing option

    isn't that great lol

  • boss metalzone mt-2

  • The SD-1 would be a great boost pedal if you had a high gain amp already. I have a modded one that I use with my Mesa.

For straight up metal sound on a SS amp:

EH Metal Muff (it replaced my Metal Zone)

    Boss Metalcore

    Boss Metal zone

Stay away from the Boss Mega Distortion.

the Metal Muff is more versatile, it can go from bluesy rock to death metal. the metal core pedal is also decent if you prefer Boss.

I sold my Metal Zone and got a Metal Muff to use with my practice amp. Get the Metal Muff

  • totally man- boss is good for time based effects and some OD, but when it comes to distoriton EHX is the way to go. I've got the metal muff too and it just kicks ass. I used to have a boss OS-2, thought it sounded ok, but when i plugged in the metal muff i couldnt believe my ears.

  • @Dagrwolfrokrokr9 def buy the MXR fullbore metal

  • somebody pls tell me which is the best effect for metal !!!!!

  • There are boss pedals made specifically for metal.

  • DO NOT

I REPEAT DO NOT buy the metal zone or core

    buy the ds1 and sd1

yes its 10 dollars more than a metal core

but the zone/core is so artificial and horrible its pathetic

the ds-1/sd-1 (two seperate pedals) will sound amazing for metal at a show

  • ye youre right. but 2 days ago ive made some home recording with my gain pumped at full power :D:D and the recording sounded like blues -.-. so you lose a lot of gain during recording

the ds1 and sd1 are good for live playing but somethimes you realy need a lot a lot of gain... but then you will need a NS efect

  • a ds-1 wouldn't be my first choice for a metal show. Its not really a Metal sounding pedal. If you dont like those, you can got with Boss's other heavey distortion pedal. Its orange, but I can't remember the name.

  • Boss Metal zone ( which i own and think its decent) a metal Core, or a mega distortion, will do fine.

  • soundcheck is so annoying especially the bended notes. argh!

  • chi sa la tablatura di quello che sta suonando? grazie

  • horrible review

  • haha im sorry to say that guitarsnoop means guitarpenis in swedish

  • We Finnish people call you swedish clowns to fags, clowns, handicapped, or just stupid. So

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU ASSHOLE!!!!!!

  • and we swedish people call you finnish people over agressive... but man, you sure showed us the opposite!

  • LMAO

  • @gusselinius no it doesnt... it's spelled snopp in swedish (not snoop) Snoop is still the artist Snoop... Ja, du har fel.

  • @gusselinius so Snoop dog in swedish means Penis dog... lol

  • @gusselinius he is lieing its snopp!

  • @gusselinius Since when is it spelled snoop? Snopp is the correct way to spell it, you don't even pronounce snoop anything like snopp, it's just like snoop dogg, or snoopy.

  • @gusselinius so does snoop dogg mean dogg penis? rofl

  • @tashoa umm, it would be penis penis

  • @gusselinius AHA good one :)

  • @gusselinius haha

  • @gusseliniuS Awsome, I can say penis in sweedish!!! :D

  • hi i already have a big muff, and wana boost it duno if get this sd 1overdrive or a ds 1 distortion, i play clasic rock, grunge, punk, and sum noise rock stuff, i need any advice for a cheep booster thx and good demo XD.

  • I wouldent use it for grunge but, This pedal is a great boost pedal for a muff or any distortion really, I use it to boost a DS-1, DS-2 and Metalzone, but you'll probably want to mod it.

  • ty bro, what that mod, u have a video maybe?XD

  • Search Keeley SD-1 Stacked Mod

  • its great to kick in infront of a tube amp distortion too. fucking incredible for solos and heavey grunge stuff in that sense...good fuzz boost too, but u have to do that on the clean channel which is annoying cus fuzz pedals sound shit in distorted amp channels. just thort id share that with u lol...dunno why particularly, u seem NICE

  • I have the Ml-2 Metal Core and the SD-1 Super Overdrive. I want to use the SD-1 as a booster, wich go first?

  • boost first

  • Actually no. As a booster, you want it after the distortion pedal. Placing it before the distortion pedal just increases the gain (might as well just increase the gain on the ML-2). After, increases the output volume.

  • @trapecio5

if you want to boost for volume the sd-1 goes after the metal core.

  • la prima

  • Heyy, i'm looking for a cheap pedal with the heaviest grit and crunch and recommendations?

  • Certainly not this one. You may want to look at distortion and fuzz pedals instead of overdrive pedals. Check out the Crunchbox by MI Audio. There are some clips on YouTube. It is crunchy and very versatile - covers a lot of bases.

  • Would this pedal be good for alternative/grunge?

  • I wouldn't use it for that. For grunge, I would want something with a bit more grit than this delivers.

  • dude if u want alter-grunge, get a digitech grunge pedal............

  • Thats the pedal im running away from.

  • just big muff , RAT or ds-2

  • @ShameofaNation actually, with a nice loud tube amp, this pedal is perfect for "grunge" ....sitting in your bedroom playing on a practice amp, no.

  • Will pushing your amp to hard with pedals ruin it? just asking..

  • hi everything has a limit with excessive volume but pedals should not blow anything, hope this helps.

  • no. It'll sound better.

  • chi sa quale brano sta suonando il tizio

  • ma quale musica suona? chi lo sa?

  • quale parte? La maggior parte è originale. Se mi dite quando, proverò a rispondergli. Ringraziamenti per l'arresto vicino.

  • quale musica sta suonando?

  • Super overdrive is for singlecoils IMHO.

Don´t like it on humbucker. Sorry. The way you check is also not the best one. Tune your guitar was very nice advice. BUT STILL THANK YOU!!!

  • You are welcome, and see the comment above about tuning - my apologies. As for the single coils vs. buckers, that is very interesting. I now have a tele with singles, but this pedal has been on the shelf since before I got the tele. I will try it again with singles, and maybe even post a comparison.

    Thanks.

  • you should tune your guitar

  • I agree that the tuning was off. Try to cut me some slack, I had a crappy tuner and a crappy guitar. I did try. Tuning is better in subsequent videos, especially since I got some decent guitars.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  • necessitas mas repertorio eh, que cansa el mismo ejemplo todo el rato

  • Yes, I know. At the time, I thought it might be beneficial to play the same stuff over and over for comparison purposes.

  • Ok =P

  • cocol

  • Afiná esa guitarra la p q t pariooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Really nice playing...

  • ProCo Rat 2 ownt

  • ลองเหี้ยอะไรมึงว่ะ

  • IFF YOU NEED A DESCENT OVERDRIVE PURCHASE THIS

zakk wylde used to use this product as shown in one of his lessons

and his signature overdrive has the exact same circuit but this is £60 cheaper so definatly worth the buy!
