YES!! A name well deserved that causes that expression. I have the DVD of this gig but it was a pleasure to watch the masters at work again with such a wonderful track with great performances alround. As a guitarist I especially like Steve Howe's amazing playing and only wish I had his ability.
Saw this tour in Germany at a Beer garden type of venue very small outdoor stage surrounded by trees and giant plants etc. It was in the middle of a park in Hamburg GDR. there must have been only a thousand people, felt like we were in someone's backyard really. So close could reach out and touch them !They played magnificently despite their age and although Steve looked like white death incarnate He played as intensely as ever.
It was magical to see hear Awaken as the twilight sank into dark.
@sturoc0 Are you sure it was this tour because in 2003 there was no GDR. The Berlin wall came down in 1989. And the unification of Deutschland soon followed. ( unless of course you mean the former GDR)
@aristotle358.... Definitely 2003... I was on Bruce Springsteen tour and we had time off in Hamburg. the local promoter hooked us up to get into this gig. As for the 'GDR', if incorrect i just have to brush up on my Euro history abit then !
@MitjaShi It is hard to say but they looked like they were into it and up for it to me. Just because they've aged doesn't mean they still don't get into it and give it their all !!
Thank you so much for this post. Even at this age they surpass so much musically and it looks like they still have fun jamming this amazing song. I truly thank you :)
Incredible performance. These guys still have it.Howe; one of the greatest guitarists. Wakeman; tied for the greatest keyboardist ever. Chris Squire; right up there with Entwhistle and Bruce as a true bass legend.Alan White is truly legendary; not Bruford, but definitely holds his own pounding those Skins and keeping time. Last but surely not least; Jon Anderson, a truly angelic and gifted voice from God.I'ts Yes,Gabiel era Genesis, and Pink Floyd for me forever. music from the heavens.
I am amazed.....thank you for posting. Rick Wakeman is the Master - I never knew how great they were back then, but I do now!
