People in other countries are angry as the United States does not stand for peace, and Americans know it too. 9/11 has little to do with the war that is going on at present. So we must ask ourselves: why haven't we been attacked? We aren't making a war, we're waging one against terrorists. Perhaps you'd rather us just leave them there so they can grow? The US doesn't do anything on our own. We were in Korea and Vietnam and Iraq with many other countries. But since we had the largest military we were the main spearhead. The UN voted to go into Korea. YOUR country was in Vietnam as well. And it was a COALITION in Iraq. Look at the facts.

In answer to your question "why haven't we been attacked". It is because people don't just go around attacking other countries for the hell of it. A group of terrorists headed by Mohammed Atta did. There will always be cranks around.
And why didn't all the terrorists attack us again? Because we're flushing them out. Al Quaeda numbers have dropped to 1/3 their strength. Is that not effective? Is that not a Just Cause? Besides, Norway gave it to Obama, not the US. Besides, an American can do things without the gov. so why should their culture rule them out for an award? If that was against a race, you would be called a "racist", or "prejudiced".

If any American was genuinely for peace, I would love to see them win the prize. However, I doubt such a person exists. To be genuinely commited to peace, the United States would have to renounce war as Japan has as a first step. Unfortunately there are very few people in any country qualified for a peace prize. Maybe the Tibetans.

We were prepared. Al-Quaeda numbers have dropped to 1/3 original strength. If we hadn't have pushed him over the edge? We didn't cause him to gas thousands of people in North Iraq, but he did it anyway. He was fighting us, but he launched SCUD's at Tel Aviv. Did Israel provoke him? No.

He never gave the military permission to kill civilians. Every war results in crime on both sides. If you honestly think that he gave the military a go-ahead to torture people, then you're ridiculous. Even if he did, such information would never be released and you would have to have top US gov. clearance to find this out. So you speculating without proof only makes you look like a fool! And seeing as you have the burden of proof, you do look like a fool.

Mason. Whenever someone disagrees with something in connection to the US, it doesn't mean we are racist. It also doesn't mean we are anti-US or anyone else either. If we can't say what we think without hurting delicate little American feelings like yours, then you will never know whether you have been told a whole lot of little white lies.
I am not criticising the US for the awardng of this prize. After all, it was not the choice of Americans. I just wish that Obama would have rejected it.

Not trying to pick a fight, but criticism from a member of another nation does not hurt my delicate little American feelings. I understand that there is plenty that our country and the people in our country, in general, have to be criticized for. I have no problem with critical comments about America from a person from another nation when they have substance to them, and they make good points. What I have no tolerance for is people saying "Stupid Americans" without being able to explain why.

For example, naerly every peace prize has been awarded to the Northern Hemispere, your hemisphere, and yet your hemisphere causes nearly all the wars. For example, the Napoleanic wars, WW1, Korea, Vietnam, WW2, Afghan, Iraq have all been started by the North. The USA has been the most warlike of all in recent times.

I guess so. I have to admit that world peace has a better chance with the US in charge. When England was in charge, we had one war after another - American War of Independence, Napoleonic Wars, WW1, WW2, Boer War, Crimean War, Indian Wars, Indian Uprising, and so on. Continual war under England.
I just think the whole idea of the Peace Prize is wrong. If there is such a thing, it should only be given to people who have never fought in war, like Albert Schweizer.

hey, Im gonna start by saying that I love Obama and was rooting for him since the beginning. But when I heard this, I was shocked. Now I don't know much about the Nobel Peace Prize but when I heard he got that, I was like "Wow, are you serious right now?" I agree 100%. As good of a president he is, he doesn't really deserve this award.

It is about America getting the award for waging war and terrorizing small countries. Obama should have turned the award down. That would have made his ideas mean something.

I fully understand what you're saying and I like how you worded it, but I don't support the wars in afgan and iraq, there are plenty of ways to stop something like 911 from happening again instead of wageing a war on people like members of Taliban. It's impossible to seize control over people like them, countless small groups hiding in holes and caves. Better ways would be reinforceing Airline security and cutting off arms dealers. But, that is just my opinion, which is as good as yours.

Duly noted. I wasn't trying to use 9/11 to justify the way the wars went, or who they were against, just that action was required. I still think Iraq and Afghanistan can be turned around from this mess. The troops are doing their job, like always, and I admire them for that. But politicians have a habit of butting into military affairs. They need to step back and let the military do it's job, because it's trying to. Well said by the way, it's always nice to talk to someone with sensible opinion.

The US doesn't do anything on our own. We were in Korea and Vietnam and Iraq with many other countries. But since we had the largest military we were the main spearhead. The UN voted to go into Korea. YOUR country was in Vietnam as well. And it was a COALITION in Iraq. Look at the facts.

In answer to your question "why haven't we been attacked". It is because people don't just go around attacking other countries for the hell of it. A group of terrorists headed by Mohammed Atta did. There will always be cranks around.

mason. All of what you are saying is true. But it is a doctrine based on force and war, not peace. I don't think I am prejudiced, just telling it like it is. If any American was genuinely for peace, I would love to see them win the prize. However, I doubt such a person exists. To be genuinely commited to peace, the United States would have to renounce war as Japan has as a first step. Unfortunately there are very few people in any country qualified for a peace prize. Maybe the Tibetans.

The country has waged continual war for this greater part of this century. It is hardly a country of peace. My statement about "any American" is not prejudical to my mind. It may be to your mind. We all have our own point of view.
The bottom line is that giving the peace prize to America is not right, as the country is waging war on many fronts.

World peace is an illusion. So if it can't be abolished, who is to blame for it? Yes, we are at war. But so is the majority of the world, so it is impossible to single us out as you have done.

Those countries do not promote war. War is a side effect of actions. Actions cause war. People declare. Actions against a country or it's allies yield a declaration of war. It's not us. It's the world. If what you were saying was true, then nobody on earth would deserve that prize. But people do deserve it.
