Why they used Hawking's quote in this trailer I have no clue. Almost everyone disagrees with that statement. He should stick to physics rather than making narrow assumptions on subjects he knows nothing about. As for the transformers sounds, yeau epic fail. VFX artists should stick to VFX too, not directing.

I read a brilliant post on Internet Movie Database that a great ironic twist ending would be that the Earth is doomed for reasons beyond even the control of the aliens like a huge solar flare for example. The aliens are the heros and are rescuing as many humans as they can to take them to another planet to repopulate and the "good guys" of the story who manage to avoid capture will be left on Earth to die, that would be cool.

That crackling sound they used on the speaker was intentional, and it's not your speakers messing up. They're trying to give you the effect of what happens to digitally recorded sound when it gets interfered by these alien's technology.

The problem is that it doesn't increase the dramatic effect, it's only annoying.

A word of advice to these and any directors out there: hurting your viewers ears doesn't intensify the moment, IT KILLS IT.
