I haven't seen episode 4 yet. But in episode 2-3 Mahone was the most interesting character with all the twists and turns (ok, maybe not in episode 3, but episode 2 was IMHO all about the development Mahone's character)

He's not smarter then Michael He proved that back in Season 2 When Scofield trapped him in that cage.

the writers will never allow him to get Michael. When he was trapped, he had his gun. He did not attempt to injure Michael so as to disable him and call for reinforcements to arrest him. Its the writers.

He couldn't fire because Michael opened the propane tank so if he fired the building would explode. Hence why he intellectually inferior to Michael and he didnt call reinforcements because He wasnt going to arrest Michael he wanted to kill him

haha, he's actually the equivalent of intelligence to Michael, he showed that while pursuing him all the way up to the episode we were talking about, then in season 4 again. Remember Michael's apartment wall with all the plans? Mahone could read it all like he planned the whole thing himself.

Remember, in S2, the writers would never ever ever ever let Michael be arrested or killed.Obviously they had to let Mahone look stupid for a while.

He was probably the only person smart enough to track Scofield and figure out his codes. He was really smart for sure.

but Michael was still smarter. Nobody is smarter then Micheal. That's why he's the main protagonist.

Infact he's so smart that Mahone almost went insane. He looked at him as another nightmare the guy he couldnt catch like Oscar Shales

actually the writers themselves wanted Mahone to be the "flip side of Scofield", two sides of the "same brilliant coin''. Thats why I think if Mahone had any laspes in intellect when dealing with Michael, its the writers screwing up their own agenda.

In S3 its worth noting that Mahone is recovering from drug addiction, and plus he is not skilled in structural engineering. most people dont realise its the very fact Michael's a structural engineer that enables him to plan a break out.

The main weakness of Mahone is his ability to kill - Michael himself knows that anyone who kills has no turning back - they are weaker than him. that i agree.

Should be also noted, Michael has low-latent inhibition, which renders him unable to block out outside stimuli. When combined with a high IQ he becomes a creative genius.

Mahone achieved so many intelligent things on the show without having this condition.

Anyway i hope you realise this is just a friendly debate between two PB fans. (=
