tolkien is the best ever. i've read his books more than a handful of times each since discovering him (beyond the new line cinema movies) about five years ago. i listen to the LOTR audiobook almost every night. helps me get to sleep and brings me to the land of dreams and fancy even before i fall asleep.
great book. nice vid. one question though, did you use the music of the Italian band Ainur? if not, you should've cause that would've fit so perfectly. none the less, good job
I just read this book... took it a bit to get going but once it did it turned out to be one of my better reads. If you're a fan of lord of the rings etc. you will really enjoy this book.
I think when God makes some people, he puts one trait In that person that can't be beaten by anybody. He put ceativity and intelligence and an amazing writing ability in Tolkien.
@Toro953 Well the fact that you can say whether or not it's bad is something by itself, because you've obviously read it, which means he's got a reputation. That's enough to give him some fame. And I doubt there are many people who can honestly admit that when they watched it they didn't feel like a movie was playing out. Who would you say is better than Paolini?
@JimTheJames You know who else is famous? The person who wrote Clifford the Big Red Dog, and justin bieber. Just because something is well known doesnt mean it is valuable. In today's dumbed down moronic society, I'm not surprised people are saying Paolini can touch Tolkien.
He took his entire story from StarWars and LOTR, he didn't add anything new to fantasy, and his writing style is unimpressive. His story is popular because its "LOTR" that is easy to read for younger kids.
@Toro953 I found his writing style good enough to be acknowledged actually, but I do agree, he didn't really add much to his version. Elves, dwarves, and humans get annoying to see all the time, especially with the same Lotr attributes. Damn WoW. And comparing Paolini to Bieber? That is more than a little harsh and inaccurate. Paolini's got talent. I just found it could be a bit more original.
actually he may have read it in the original published version of the silmarillion, as Cristopher Tolkien decided to drop the c in order to prevent people from pronouncing it like the english word "chin". He later regretted the spelling change and decided to put the c back in in later editions.
@vashtiverous78 exactly i dont know why students have to learn about only a few great writers. This is basically making people think that there are only a few truly great writers in history when there is actually hundreds.
Have you read Narn i Hin Hurin in Unfinished tales too? If so I'd really like to know if this book is much different than that. I'm thinking about getting it but if it's basically the same I guess I shouldn't.
so are any of the Christopher Tolkien adaptations any good? I'm a huge Tolkien fan but I didn't want to read anything sub-par even if it was penned by a blood relative
same reason I've never read any of the new Dune books done by Frank Herbert's son
the beginning is a bit Biblical and I can see how it might be a tough read but you should try and push past that because it gets hardcore... rape incest genocide war war and more bloody war
The movie pretty much makes it hard for me to read the book now, pisses me off. I saw the movie before I read the book. They say the movie is different form the books at times. So it's hard to take the book seriously.
Turin Turambar...one of the saddest stories ever happened in Middle Earth...but I love it. I say that Turin's story and Beren & Luthien are Tolkien's best!!!! I love the last words Beren sais, always bring tears in my eyes...
Ohh, thanks, I'm very proud of you. You selected the three most important heroes of this history.
I was the unique to challenge Melkor...And for your surprise, after many many years ahead of fall of Sauron and the end of arda, Eru returns Turin Turambar to the life, and he defeats Morgoth with the black sword (The lost road).
Practically everyone dies in the Sillmarillion! Even Elwe Thingol, Luthien's father, is corrupted by greed. I quickly realised as I read, no one was safe except Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, and Cirdan.
you know, your comment just made me think of how the Noldorion Elves are the Jews of Middle Earth - they get scattered in an Exodus and everyone else in the world is trying to exterminate them
I think it's interesting how a book written by J.R.R Tolkien came out long after his death (not that I'm complaining, just think it's funny and also, wasn't the Silmarillion an unfinished manuscript, and that his son, Christopher, finished writing it as well as published?) [Wow I am REALLY Geeky!]
i read the silmarillion waay before hobbit or lotr. I was familar with the story of turin turambar waay before this book. but it will be interesting to read anyway.:)
Eh! The tale of Hurin is not the oldest story of middle earth... there was the story of feanor... and you forgot the book the silmarillion in your list.
i just finished it it's so sad :(

Christopher Paolini got pretty close, I am very impressed with the Inheritance Cycle so far, but Tolkien is plain untouchable.
