  • Spider's finally found an instrument that I can play. Not the tin whistle of course, but the beer tray to the head!!!

  • nice one @mitch26

  • 3:37 Really rare to see them play Dark streets of London live!

  • this is so fucking good........mannnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Fantastic stuff and great memories. Thanks for the upload mitch26.

  • What's the song that starts at 1:38?

  • @kcaj789 Everything has already been identified, just read the comments.

  • @mitch26 Fuggin wunderbar - gawd bless Bavarian TV - and for yer man up there, it's the Waxies Dargle - an auld Dublin song - which'd be a great one if it weren't for the anti-semitism in it

  • Comment removed

  • Póg mo thóin!

  • The name of the first song please ???

  • @mikesana1957 It's all in the comments already.....

  • @mikesana1957 The Battle of Brisbane off of Red Roses for Me... now that's what I call 'using your head'

  • Extra rare "And the band play waltzing Mathilda" des Pogues, à 13:26. Une des plus belles chansons d'histoire... Il n'y avait que la TV allemande pour filmer ça à l'époque, pour que ça reste dans les annales d'Internet :)

  • do they even make 'em or write 'em like this any more? I mean, Shane is a true troubadour... And Spider! ouch, watch the head, son! Cait, tough/ pretty punk, (which took nerve in those days... 'specially for a girl) the instruments... everything here... THIS is what i call ART

  • Was this recorded for The Tube? I definitely remember seeing this footage in the 80s.

  • @tpen93 Dark Streets of London....

  • this quite amazing, when i first heard them, it was dirty old town for few mins on a pop music show in australia in 1985 & then nothing, it required tracking down a record & buying it. incidentally the last song here is by australian folk singer eric bogle, & term waltzing matilda is logically enough, an expression derived from very early german immigrants to australia. love that shane plays 12 string guitar. song titles bit wrong on screen text here, but just shows it really was 1985...great

  • I haven't seen Shane play a guitar since... well 1985

  • saw this on tv, next time i joined them on tour, love them for 25 years now.

and be in munich today for concert.

    BEST BAND EVER!

  • Spider with the tray :-D

  • wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • For me the best band EVER(damn gyn)

  • That song at the beginning and 11:00 is Battle of Brisbane, not Sally MacLenanne.

  • the pouges are one of the most under rated bands of all time great passion, and great lyrics pure music

  • FARK!

  • whats with the head beating? couldnt they achieve the same effect from hitting the knee and saving the head trauma?

  • @AISmagic2008"The band gained more attention when Channel 4's influential music show The Tube made a video of their version of "Waxie's Dargle" for the show. The performance—featuring Spider Stacy repeatedly smashing himself over the head with a beer tray (in the manner of Bob Blackman's infamous "Mule Train/Mule Tray")—became a favourite with the viewers, but Stiff refused to release it as a single. Nevertheless, it remained a favourite request for the show for many years." ;)

  • @AISmagic2008 better effect lol

  • great upload thanks!

  • pogues live are always a party . thanks and respects .

  • brilliant.

  • 36 Dislikes? OK, I appreciate that we're all individuals, but wtf is not to like about this? Never saw 'em live, & on the basis of this vid, that's my loss.

    Thanks for posting!

  • la raja compare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been there, was the first of my many many Pogues gigs. 10 DM and 60 km to drive. Sadly the BR as usually broadcasted only about 45 min. Of course the gig went on for lucky me ;-)

  • This entire dancing crowd nowadays would be standing still holding their digital camera.

  • I really fucking love the Pogues, hello from Paris

  • Great and erley, you can hear how Spider realy cant play the thin. Love it! Thanxx

  • 36 wankers don't know how to get drunk, have fun & tell all the bosses to fuck off.

  • A Paddy's Day treat for real, thank you so much!

  • Thumbs up for Spider playing the drink tray!!!! Happy St Pat's everyone!

  • The video is taken from Bavarian TV, about that time I saw the Pogues playing in Hannover, drummer had his left arm in a plaster cast, great time had by all

  • 8:40 "It's about whiskey" Brilliant.

  • LOVE SPIDER!!!! He's so talented, even with his head. LOL

  • Wish some live prime Pogues would wind up on DVD or CD. I'd but it!

  • I find this whole thing just unbelievably wonderful. the band is tight as shit, givin' it everything they've got. and then Shane, oh my god, we'd all be a little less without him. grateful to whoever filmed this, compiled it, posted it, etc. thanks.

  • where was this concert?

  • can't believe i missed the farewell tour!

  • I think Cait is pretty!

  • Its a pitty that transmetropolitan is cutted off...one of my favourite pogues-songs!

  • shame i'm not irish

  • I think that I have been there..

  • shane your as ugly as 9 dogs but the worlds greatest poet

  • going to see them in Chicago on March 3rd!

  • pozytywnie pojebani

  • 6:59 Pogo!

  • I like this very much!

    Thank you.

  • gotta use your head more often to play instruments haha ;D

  • @epibeast885 but its pun ishingly difficult

  • shane "the legend" macgowan

  • 35 so-called people (I'm sure they are all rangers' pigs) can die any moment, the world won't miss them at all

  • 35 people don't like this..your already dead stop posting

  • im an 18 year old male and i always make it to the front, every year baby! the old drunken males cannot keep up with me hahah....long live shane macgowan and the pogues!

  • i would kill to have been there.

  • Uploaded 2005 wow!

  • @Conrade90 Yeah when I uploaded this originally there weren't but about 4 or 5 live videos posted of the Pogues.

  • @Conrade90 Yes, you can actually date their videos by the amount of uppers he has left.

  • Music like this doesn't exist anymore, not on a commercial level anyway..Bands like thee Pogues and frontmen like Shane will live forever...

  • Ha..I am 60 and female and always end up front row and center at flogging molly.

    and short

  • I'm a 56 year old female and LOVE them...couldn't make it to the front if I tried though...too short LOL

  • This really shows the Pogues at their best - great stuff! The video quality is great too. I hate to be a pain in the arse but a couple of the song captions are wrong. The 5th song is "Whiskey You're the Devil" (not "Transmetropolitan") and the 6th is "Battle of Brisbane' (not "Sally Mclennane instrumental"). "Transmetropolitan" is the 7th tune, which is not heard in full. Thanks for posting.

  • Ah, those were the days. First went to a Pogues gig in london 85 (I was looking for myself in the audience). Attended another a year so later in norwich, and several other performances in the 90's.

But the first gig was the best. That's when the Pogues were THE band. I remember a reviewer from Sounds commenting that he hadn't seen so many people puking up since his first high school disco when someone laced the punch with whisky.

Kids today have no idea what real what real fun is.

  • This is amazing!! For once Shane and the boys aren't TOO drunk and it shows in the tightness of the performance...

  • More Classic Pogues Videos!!!! PLEASE!

  • fuck yeah! i'm 20 years old 2nd generation irish, living in northwest england & i've loved the pogues since i was 13 :D seen em live 3 times, greatest band on the fuckin planet! shane fuckin rules the planet!

  • czaderska muza i ciągle popularna

  • An Irish friend told me that The Pogues gigs are like death metal gigs.... I didn't really believe him until I watched this!

  • I don't see Phil Chevron on this video?

  • The pogues are in Munester today 07/31/2010 ! :)

  • Damn... was i a teenager then? "FugsSake"

  • this is london irish and maybe camden ? or crouch end ? 90's ? ...some place then in the pubs...i don't know how i survived....thanks for posting this...rare and valuable ...do this set in a pub and see the place rock...will never die as long as people want to be free and happy..even if its just for the night in question...hangovers are forgotten the eternal now lasts forever

  • @couthyband errr maybe 1985 ?...clues in the title

  • one the greatest bands to come out of ireland fronted by a legend that we all love so much

  • can this be got on cd/dvd

  • haha lol @ 7:23

  • what a great video, cheers.

  • so good........

  • Sush a great talent gone to a stupid thing called booze, real shame. Respect Shane

  • what happened to transmetropolitan FFS? it was cut in half!

  • top

  • Anyone else notice the crowd looks 96% male. Where are the lasses, lads?

  • I know a lot of girls that like the Pogues, but generally the front of the show is filled with drunken males. It's even worse at Flogging Molly shows where the average age is 14.

  • @mitch26 im a 13 year old girl and i love them (:

  • @welshperson123 You have great taste and should turn out well:) Be careful around all those drunken males....

  • @mitch26 haha

  • @mitch26 hahaha

  • @welshperson123 I'm glad to hear that!

  • great taste and very mature.. :)

  • @welshperson123 Especially watch out for mitch

  • @mitch26 im a girl too and the pogues are one of my favorite bands. im gonna see them live soon, in dublin. and ill definitely be in the front row, at least try to. i hope that i can get past these drunken males lol.

  • @NathalieVicious Good luck, Nathalie. I'll be seeing them in March at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC.

  • @sfortuna Never thought of that, but you're right. Thinking back, they were more of a lad's band I think. A drink and a shout.

  • @sfortuna At Boyzone. With you!!

  • @sfortuna There are girls there, but back then, they looked and acted more like guys so it can be confusing.

  • fucking fantastic.

  • mitch thanks very much for posting this long clip, because I lived so remote in Scotland I never got a chance to see Pogues live, and I am a big fan of the first two albums, I have watched this about 5 times now already, bloody brilliant!!

  • This is one of my favorites too, good thing I posted it back in early youtube, nothing over 10 minutes now.

  • @mitch26

This is one of the earliest youtube videos!

  • I'm Scottish. Rockabilly and Skiffle artist used to do a similar thing, but they turn bass drum on its side and hit with stick, it is because the fast ballroom bets are too easy to mess up with a bass pedal and its very hard work keeping up that pace, very sensible to cut out the feet and just use the arms, the Irish are smart, always have been ;)

  • as we're all aware both the Irish and drummers in general are brilliant folk.......

  • @mitch26 am a fan o the pogues n have bin for years this is excellent. And its always nice to know that we drummers are appreciated out there. cheers man. :)

  • Cornmackjames, irish can only play drums with their hands...on account of having no foot rhytm. just jokin

  • Always wondered how the drummer got that sound, one floor tom, one snare, brilliant!!

  • the snake!!!

  • shooooweeee...me, too!! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAH

    SHANE, MARRY ME.

  • @bentrend, yes, great band and Shane looks great! im a little wet.....

  • wow, they sound fuckin great. And dare I say... Shane looks dashing??

  • the concert was in germany.. and this is a live broadcast from the "BR" ("Bayrischer Rundfunk") .. if someone wants the whole video.. pm! =)

    regards from W-Berlin!

  • @IcyIce17 Seen them the same year in Osnabrueck, Germany. Small Club filled with soldiers from the British Army - Great Show!!!!

If you have the full concert please get in contact!!!!

  • fucking brilliant band and concert

  • Flogging molly's dad...

  • is this on dvd?

  • This has never been released commercially, they should have used it on that last box set, which was just a tremendous disappointment after all we'd been told was in the vaults

  • Utterly UTTERLY brilliant!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • LMFAO and I love how the flutist is just banging his head like he doesn't give a shit. Like the audience isn't even there, experimenting with how to produce the best sound. Then goes to down a beer.

    FUCK I love this band.

  • lol 7:22 to 7:32 some real characters in the audience.....

  • 'its about dead australians'

best description of the band played waltzing matilda ive ever heard.

  • I saw them this last October in Los Angeles when they did their American tour. It was amazing. Shane was so drunk I think he fell over during the third song. Then again I was super drunk anyway. A fucking great band to go see though.

  • My two friends went to see them in Manchester, but they wouldn't let them through the door as they were too drunk :-) tis a true story. They'd travelled from Sheffield too. Sure Shane would've seen the funny side. Great Poet is Shane

  • bloody brilliant video, remains me how good they really were. I wasn't just the beer

  • How come you had a video phone in 1985?
