  • so awesome i made one

  • THIS LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE A GUY FROM THE COLONY SEASON 2! NOT KIDING

  • Ok thanks that help

  • Do you have a layout on how to set the nails

  • @OX805NARD

Just the way I do it here on the video.. Kind of a diamond shape.. you can vary the size between them for diff sized slings

  • Its cool, thanks alot by the way I've made one of my own now I just need to learn how to use it LOL!!

  • Thanks that helped alot!! I've made my own Guide board for a 4" and 5" pocket I'm still having problems with the knots at the beginning and end of braiding the paracord any suggestion??

  • @WatYourNameIs

It's just a half hitch.. with the rope run back through itself.. sorry if I didn't make it clear on the video.

  • How far apart are the nails that you used??

  • @WatYourNameIs

No specific distance.. It depends on how big you want your pocket. I suppose mine are about 4-6" end to end :)

  • Oh BTW, I didn't have any paracord but luckily I DID have some different size nylon braided ropes. They seem to work just fine. One I made with a very small cord and it won't even swing properly without a rock in it but I REALLY like the complexity and smoothness of the pouch. The second one was done with a 5/8" nylon rope. The pocket isn't as quality as the really thin string but it is still nice and can fling those suckers!

  • This thing is LEGIT! :) Thank you so much for the design! MUCH MUCH better than the one I weaved by hand. I think the other method I tried before yours had something missing not to mention the nails make it SO easy. The rocks kept falling out of the pouch. This sling is off the heezy. I threw a tomato like 2 football fields lol.

  • @ReadYourBibleFirst I meant the first one was done freehand :)

  • oh and I'm not worried about the rocks coming out of the sling on the pre-swing with this one! :D The first one I made I would have to look up in the air behind me like 2/3 slings hoping the rock wasn't gonna fall through a windshield or something somewhere lols.

  • "Lions and tigers and bears??? oh my...." (Wizard of Oz) I'll just load my sling up and let it fly!

  • cordage ...

  • 0:28 I shit myself! Great video!

  • AWSOME!! :) thank you very much for the video! yours is much better than the junk one I made! going now to get paracord, cant wait to do it!

  • Hillybillys make the coolest $hit

  • Bird scared the crap out of me

  • I'm sure this works for you - but - you seem to be making it harder than it needs to be. You might check out Tying It All Together channel for some slick, easy knots/weaves.

  • ot has been about a year ago orso that i saw your video and directly made my own out of a 6mm nylon dread it worked well but it was too thick

i have showed this vid to 3 of my friends and they all asked: owh thats awesome can you make me one?

now i use 4mm i just bought that with a friend its made of polyester i thought and its really stiff but works fine

have you any idea what diameter rope you use? i ve seen 3mm but i m not able to get paracord in the netherlands

    thanks

  • @unscspec123

Paracord is 1/8 inch in diameter and is rated for 550 lbs. Hope that Helps

  • dave can i just buy one hahaha

  • @megalizardfreak

Sure you can.. But they are so easy to make.. you ought to at least try it!

  • @BushcraftOnFire ok i defanitly try at first i thought you were making a rifle sling if you want i can pm you a link for a paracord rifle sling

  • @BushcraftOnFire thanks for the sling and nice music. What's the knife you have by your feet at 2:15?

  • @sniperpistol50

That's a Mora.. I was using it to cut the cordage. I hope it was sheathed there.. looks like it was :)

  • So I've been making 3 of these now and intend to make 3 more for gifts, excellent video that's easy to follow but I was wondering if you knew how to make a split pouch style sling with only a single strand of rope?

I have seen guides for makeing it with 3 strands but I was hoping perhaps you knew of one for a single strand design?

  • @88Kamikaze69

Good question.. I think the split pouch could be made with 1 long strand by going up one outside.. back down the center.. and then back up the other outside.. You would need to knot on both sides of the pouch. Make sense?

  • @BushcraftOnFire

Do you mean by modifying the design in this video and that way making a 3 slit pouch?

  • @88Kamikaze69

Basically yes.. instead of 5 strands back and forth use 3.. and don't fill in the pouch. Typically most split pouches use 3 strands.

  • @BushcraftOnFire

Hm.. seems easy enough in theory I suppose..

  • @88Kamikaze69

I was curious so I just made one.. took me about 1 1/2 mins from start to end.. All I did was put a half hitch on each side of the split pouch and then thread the end of the cordage through the loop made to secure it.

  • @BushcraftOnFire

    1 1/2 mins??

You know you should start selling these things on ebay, if it takes you that short a while to make em you can earn some good money ^^

So, could I nagg you into making a video for it?

I'm sure other people would appreciate it to, makes for greater accuracy at short range and the ability to chuck bigger rocks since this first type of pouch wont hold all that large a rock.

  • made one on the go in the car all i did was put the paracord into the shape of the layout of the nails and then i started weaving it, it look almost perfect i messed up on the end knot but its all good works perfect ive been hucking rocks about 2 to 300 ft

  • @goofydoober55

    Terrific job!! Way to go

  • That damn eagle screech at the beginning really startled me wtf..

  • that intro music offends me.

  • hey good video would like to make a request on how to make the weapon with two balls at each end of one rope and well to know the name of it please respond

  • @patakajet7

That's called a Bolo.. you can find it online in many places...

  • @BushcraftOnFire truly amazing

  • Why do people say "20 foot of paracord"? "Foot" is singular. "20" is more than one, and therefore plural.

    "20 FEET of paracord".

  • @Supermassively I don't judge people literacy. That is rude.

  • @Animaboom Yeah, it must be hard to do so, when you have none.

    "people's literacy", moron.

  • @Supermassively Try it plus its the internet, Don't try arguing with me tell me your annoying.. besides reply to this I'm just going to ignore it. ^^ I like haters like you,You bitch about everyones problems. lol

  • @Animaboom Wow, that is some shitty grammar right there. What a MORON.

  • @Supermassively ;D Supermassively sounds is the sound of me making sweet sweet love to your whore mom.

  • @Animaboom That made no fucking sense. Are you retarded or something?

  • @Supermassively Thats what I said to your mother last night son.

  • @Animaboom Wow, "your mom" shit. Way to show your age there, little one. Try again.

  • @Supermassively I have no time to waste on you, You just ignored what I "first reply"lol.. even adults are dumbasses. We name for you people Mr.Literal=Annoying...

  • @Supermassively I said "first reply" learn to be patience and read ,you annoying literal brat...

  • @Supermassively For man afraid to get shit talked,I should say your the one who started the argument. By the way why didn't you read my first reply on your other comments?

    Moron.

  • @Supermassively Types something and your gay. :D Plus plus... I am 10.. :D Judge all you want. Gay man Homosexual man... (angry feeding fuel to the fire)

  • @Supermassively By the way,who said I was literate.

  • i made an awesome sling using this method and using paracord too. it looked just like this one. i was slinging rocks about 300 metres.

but then the slip knot came out while it had a rock in the pouch. the rock carried the sling out a good 100 metres and it was lost to the depths of loch lomond forever.

    was very sad :(

looks like ill need to make another one. i get confused at around 2:30 though.

  • @volound

Glad to hear your's turned out well! 300 yards is quite a feat! That's almost 1/4 mile... great slinging... Sorry to hear that you lost it... Maybe the Nessi will take up slinging now! ROTFLOL!!

All that I'm doing at 2:30 is making a 1/2 hitch over the end of the sling... Nothing extravagant.

  • I made one of these last night. The kids and I had fun slinging a practice golf ball around until it was time for bed. Mine doesn't look as nice as yours but, it was a fun project and the kids all want to make one now. Thanks for putting this up! If it is OK I am going to post the link to the video on my bushcraft forums website.

  • @drewhelean

Thanks Bro... Feel free to post the link.. and thanks for your support

  • is it just me or does this guy look and sound just like the guy from the red green show?

  • Great tutorial. While doing a bit of research on Celtic weaponry I came across your page. Made my own already and cant wait to get down to the beach tomorrow to figure out how to use it without killing any of the familly :) Thanks you...

  • Thank you

  • would regular gardning twine work for a sling

  • @tjzx3432

Depends on the twine.. Bailer's twine (the plastic stuff) would probablt work ok.. Sisal might break on you as it is weak from most stores. Try it and let us know

  • this video is a few days less than a year old, so I'm not sure if you will read this, but would it work to use some of that regular yellow nylon rope? or does it have to be paracord

  • @TheWolf739

Sure I will reply my Brother :)

You can use any rope that is flexible and strong enough to sling with. We have even used Bailing twine before with success! One of the things that you want to be sure of is that the rope isn't too stiff to work with.

    HTH

  • @BushcraftOnFire thank you for the reply, I made one out of the rope, it worked, but it was very hard to do, I needed to make the jig (if you want to call it that) a lot wider than needed, It's dark out so I'm not too sure how well it will work, I haven't actually used a sling before, so I will eventually buy some paracord to see the difference, I will tell you how well it works when I try it out over the weekend, again, thank you for the reply and video

  • Clever fellow. The sling is probably the world's oldest hunting tool. Length of hide,

a pouch, and a rock. I've seen the damage that such a 'primitive' tool can cause. In the right hands..wow. I've been enjoying success with bowmaking..but after seeing this..I MUST make a primitive sling such as the one you've shown. Excellent videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills.

  • this works great!!! u explained it so clearly and simply that i only watched the video one time and within about 30min. i was enjoying my new sling. thanks dave for posting this i really enjoyed making it.

  • thanx man and i like the way you hang out with the family without letting them get slaved on the pc to bad nto everyone goes outdoor with family lately....

    Respect from Tunisie

  • been trying to find 1 like this for a longtime thanks m8

  • I have two questions. First one is really dumb but can you buy paracord like anywhere or do you have to order it online at some military supplies website? and the other question is can you do it with a cord of leather too?

  • You can usually find it at camping centers and dive shops. Be careful when buying cordage.. there is real #550 and fake 550. The real stuff has 7 inner strands that will each break into smaller strands. Ask them to cut off a small piece and check for this.

Sure you can do this with leather.. That's how slings were made in olden days. You might try a 4 braid round for your handles.. it works very nicely!

  • Beautiful sling! One question, how far do you space the nails that create that diamond shape?

  • I have these set 4" apart. The distance that you make them determines the size of the pocket...

    HTH

  • thanks. I will try again.

  • Good stuff. Thanks.

  • Awesome job Dave. I always liked para cord projects.

  • Very nice video Dave 5*
