  • Jesus Christ, I love how people want to condemn Umaga and Mealmu, both two players with an exemplary discipline records and Umaga even recieved the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for good sportsmanship in helping Collin Charvis recover in a match while his team was on the front foot.

Tana Umaga was a great player, a legend and a fantastic captain and while I concede it deserves a yellow or red card, that is the extent of how bad it is. Targeting him when there have been many bad tackles is pathetic

  • I'm a kiwi & that was disgraceful. Umaga & Mealamu should've been suspended for the rest of test series at least if not the rest of the 2005 international season. Maybe their failure @ the 2007 rugby world cup was karma.

  • pure bast*rds!! an absolute disgrace to Rugby and New Zealand... to the world we all know the pride and honour to wear your countries jersey and that near extra honour to wear the all black one!! But By God those pricks took it all and f*cked it!!! Pure pure scumbags!!!!

  • guys how the hell can you watch that and say it wasnt deliberate? haha i mean... is that a bad joke or something? i am not kiwi or irish or british so i am no being unfair or biased here... what umaga and mealamu did is probably the biggest anti sportmanship act in the history of rugby... the two of them literally picked the guy up and drove him on his head to the ground... on a post-ruck! so please if that is not trying to take someone out... please tell me what were they actually trying to do

  • It was dangerous and illegal but as a kiwi I really don't think they deliberately tried to take O'Driscoll out for the tour. I was at this match and had been looking forward to the Lions coming since the 03 Australian tour, but was so disappointed with the rubbish squad that was sent out here. None of the games were close and even the Maoris won. No doubt O'Driscoll is world class but please send a competitive team next time or we may as well invite Italy over for a tour.

  • At the end of the day, Odriscoll came to New Zealand with high hopes of victory against the ABeez, and ended up getting his bones broken in under two minutes.Tana Umaga and Kevin Mealamu were the ones who picked him up and drilled him.Wether or not it was itentional doesnt really matter coz the Lions had no chance of beating NZ.Be honest with yourselves....

When was the last time a touring lions team won a series?

  • This was not a tackle.It was a cleanout from a ruck...

Sucks that it happened but i doubt ODriscoll wouldve made an impact on the Lions tour against NZ.Only because he continually plays shit against the AllBlacks...

MAA NONU TANA UMAGA CONRAD SMITH SONNY BILL AND ROBBIE FRUEAN.We breed ELITE centres down here mate...

  • @westsideAUKILANI I am sorry but none of your players could touch O'Driscoll. He is class. Your players are dumb, senseless pigs who have no creativity. Your centres aren't elite. O'Driscoll is elite. It was a late vicious tackle and they should have been reprimanded. What pisses me off is that Tana Umaga says,"Mistakes happen"

Oh yeah he accidentally tripped up, picked up O'Driscoll and dumped him on his head. Whoops. They targeted him because he is better than them.

  • @Qwertyrulez4eva None of them could touch ODriscoll? Is that why Odriscoll never has a good game against the AllBlacks?LOL...He will never shine against us because basically, he's too SOFT.Until Ireland beat us in rugby, only then will we recognise him as a great player.Dont get me wrong, he is probably the best centre in the Northern Hemisphere, but well behind the Elite centres of the Southern Hemisphere.

  • @westsideAUKILANI Fair enough he hasn't performed against NZ but he is sheer class and probably the best centre in the world. The SH has class centres aswell but personally none are as good as BOD. :)

  • @westsideAUKILANI Cleanout from a ruck?? Did you watch the footage?

  • @tony10396861 a tackle is when you have ball in hand.not bent over a ruck trying to contest the ball.clearly a cleanout.

  • @westsideAUKILANI The ball was long gone, but if you prefer we could call it a spear-cleanout.... It was the worst incident of foul play I have ever seen on a rugby pitch

  • @tony10396861 spear-cleanout?call it what you want mate.fact is he got drilled into the ground and cryed about it for five years.wether it was illegal or not the lions tour still wouldve been doomed.get over it i say

  • @westsideAUKILANI HE didnt cry about it, everyone else did!! Within weeks he was refusing to talk about it in interviews etc... yeah they were never gonna win, but that's not really the point. If he had landed on his head instead of his shoulder they'd have broken his neck

  • @tony10396861 come on mate.we all saw him crying about it after the match in the press-conference, the following week, and the next 3months here in nz.What were you watching?...thats why here in nz, broken bones come with the territory. We understand that. This isnt tiddlywinks...they couldve broken his neck?yeah possibly.but they didnt. He will forever be known as a whinger to most kiwis.

  • @westsideAUKILANI Yeah thats right Mr De villiers, we're all soft up here in the NH...... but seriously, to call BOD a whinger is just outrageous. He is anything but. It was the Lions management team that made a big deaI of it to take away from the fact that they were shite and that the tour was not a happy one. If it's true that most Kiwis really think of him as a whinger then to be honest New Zealand rugby fans really go down in my estimation

  • @tony10396861 lol...sweet as mate.beat us in rugby then we can talk.

  • @westsideAUKILANI Just like Richie McCaw after the Tuquiri spear tackle...whinge whinge whinge.

  • @ronantv Richie never whinged about it.NZ fans did though, not for long. One week at best. You lot still crying over this.Thats why Ireland will never beat the AllBlacks in a game of hard rugby.

  • @ronantv Shit mate, stuff happens in any sport, sure it looked nasty but Umaga is one of the greatest All Blacks and he wouldn't have it in him to do that kinda shit on purpose. You can keep whinging about it (You Northerners are the best at that) but that means us kiwis can still complain about the food poisoning world cups ago. And as for O'Driscoll being the best player in the world, shit that made me laugh, best in the Northern Hemisphere perhaps, but nowhere near the top 10 in the Southern.

  • @easipay listen you stupiad kiwis messed up our best player

  • @jackisbackagain1 Yeah there's no denying it, he got messed up, but like I said shit happens. Don't get me wrong, I have respect for O'Driscoll, easily the best player from that area for a long time, but we didn't need to purposefully take him out as our midfield was more than capable of handling him. Conrad Smith plays very similarly to him and matchs him in every facet

  • @easipay Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @westsideAUKILANI if they had broken his neck, would you be saying the same thing? and if the Lions tour was doomed anyway, what possible motivation did they have in doing this? What threat did they think O'Driscoll posed if they were so mighty...

  • @daviesonly If they had broken his neck?FACT is they didnt(thank god for that). What motivation did they have?well after the haka BOD performed a disrespectful gesture at the boys by ripping a handful of grass and flinging it in the air towards the all-blacks with a slight grin on his face...In reality ODrisscoll was never a threat as he always under performs when he faces the allblacks.

  • @westsideAUKILANI It was a dangerous enough tackle to break his neck, and so it was foolish and reckless. Hardly a 'disrespectful gesture'... throwing a bit of grass towards them, which most would argue was a 'challenge accepted' gesture ... Every other side in the world have to put up with the haka every game - what if we found that 'disrespectful'? we wouldn't go about spear tackling the opposition. That tackle was unprofessional. I'm surprised you're defending them to be honest.

  • @daviesonly It was foolish and reckless?Yeah, maybe Tana and Kev shouldve politely layed him down on his back and given him a nice pat on the arse?LOL.This is Rugby mate, you gonna get slammed HARD.Hardly a disrespectful gesture? You must not be from NZ, or know anything about culture huh? That was completly disrespectful and only people with culture understand...

Countries of the Rugby World understand we come out with our Haka and the world loves it.BOD got what he deserved.BROKEN BONES!!!!

  • @westsideAUKILANI Nothing wrong getting slammed hard but legally and within the rules. This was a disgraceful incident perpetrated when the ball was well gone. The appropriate action should have been two yellow cards if not red and subsequent citing. Remember the hullabaloo about Tuquiri's horrible spear tackle on McCaw? Deserved? And you talk about culture? What culture is that? Illegality? Superchokers?

  • @westsideAUKILANI You're right I've never seen a sportsman take a clump of grass and throw it in the air before. NZ should have recalled the Irish ambassador! And to make matters worse he grinned!!! Your argument is pathetic. You are defending the indefensible. Give it up. We all love the Haka and NZ rugby. Idiots like you remove some of the lustre.

  • And that stupid haka shit should be dumped as no other team would get away with it

  • All blacks get away with too much and that's why they win so many tight matches. They pile bodies into the rucks so the ref can't see who is off their feet and target the oppositions best players all of the time .odriscoll is d best player that ever lived !

  • All Blacks get away with shit like this too often, just because they are who they are. They need to be shown their shit doesnt fly anymore and wont be tolerated.

  • Yes, it was dangerous. But in no way in hell was it intentional.

  • @Tehui1974 com on 4 god sake! how more intentional does it get! he was targeted!

the NZ cheat if they cant win legally, fair enough its sport . however , this is 2 far! they clearly targeted him pre match theyve gone way to far!

  • @Rugby10Nut The ABs didn't seek to take BOD out of the game by foul means. That's absolute bullshit.

  • @Tehui1974 Is that why they flipped him so he was face down and then speared him full force into the ground. Yeah, thought so.

  • @ckeltuboff It's called an ACCIDENT

  • @Tehui1974 Okayyyyy whateverrrr you say mister, but an accident would be if O'Driscoll slipped out of their hands or they just let him drop accidently. They speared him into the ground at full force, that's not an accident. But hey, if that's what helps you sleep at night.

  • @ckeltuboff No, an accident is when each player did not realise that another player had hooked his BOD's other leg. If only one tackler was involved in the spear tackle action, than that would be a different story. I think you need to get over it, 5 years is a long time.

  • @Tehui1974 Well this is a video about BOD getting speared so I will talk about BOD getting speared thank you very much. And by the the way Mealamu and Umaga faces were inches away from each other so don't give me that crap.

  • @ckeltuboff If you ever played a game of rugby you will know that the game can be so quick that sometimes you don't know what your team mate next to you is doing. And at test match level, in the first few minutes of the game, the speed of the game is absolutely massive. Yes, it was a spear tackle. No, it was not intentional. But I'm sure you will draw your own conclusions intent, even though you can't prove it.

  • @Tehui1974 Come on man, their heads and hands actually touched each other

  • @Tehui1974 oh come on . they just happened to take out the lions best player within 60 seconds of the 1st test by accident in the form of his life........ right.... no coincidence there.....

  • @Rugby10Nut Says you Jack. Says you.

  • i think newzealnd are a great rugby team and are creative amazing and tackle like hell but that was dirty and deserved a ban no matter wat any one else thinks!

  • agreed wertyui(Y)

  • Harden up

  • This is an axample of why I hate the All Blacks. They're a dirty team and always have been.

  • @wertyui123456789 stop hatin bro. Talkin about dirty, You face us in June and boy you guys were playing like savages, yellow cards, and a RED card for your stupidity.

Your team may play fair against other teams, but you you step up the AB's you just lose it. So stick that DIRTY nonsense up ur arse.

  • @wertyui123456789 You hate the all blacks because they are the best team.
