  • I find it funny that even if katara and soka's grandma was white and from the northern water tribe, that would still make them 3/4s southern tribe or at least 1/2 assuming their grandmother got pregnant with their mom in the northern tribe. If anything they should have been inuit actors either way.

  • Well done SimKoning. You made your point, but alas, you are still going to have people who are going to bend over backward to tell you that you're wrong, and the funny thing is they can't even see the tremendous leaps in logic they have to make to do it. I will not see this movie because I refuse to pay/reward Hollywood stupidity.

  • @NelsonStJames The sad thing is this movie made a lot of money. I'm worried that these film makes know something we do not; maybe there are more racist white people than Asians in this country. So, as a result, they stand to make more money by appeasing the former rather than the latter.

  • You rock, SimKoning.

  • lol white ann

  • I had to laugh at the title!!! LMFAO!!!

Anyways... lol. My "Aang is Asian" video explains why Aang is Asian. There is of course 2 videos. One is a tribute (that's the one I wanted to share) and the other is a soundtrack, for those interested...

  • watch#!v=aJMtTxmFmSY

one of these kids here or any other asian kid SHOULD play the role of AANG!

    this MOVIE SUCKSS!!!!!!!!!

  • You know alot of people who think this is no big deal would get but hurt if a african american was played or replaced by a white guy "Thats so racist". But when it comes to asians "ooooh whats the big deal?! stop being so politicaly correct".

  • I am a Chinese Canadian myself and I couldn't thank you enough for doing something like this.

On the other hand, I think you might find this guy's work interesting. :)

Look for the name deerock-gorilla on the website deviant Art and you'll find this guy's stuff.

  • @alexiscillz

That's completely different. Stereotypical accent free voice acting helps the viewers to put themselves into the shoes of the characters. Plus it is much easy to find a 12 years old kid to do Aang's voice than find a 12 years old Asian American kid to do Aang's voice. Unless you wanna pay Nickleodeon the money to help them find one.

BTW, heard of Phil LaMarr before?

  • @alexiscillz hmm, that might be a good argument if the White actors were actually GOOD ACTORS. I saw the movie and all of the acting was horrendous, I wouldn't have minded the Race thing if the actors they used did a good job portraying the characters' personalities, but what sucks is they didn't. The developers have no "They were the best actor for the role" argument because there are a million different actors that could have done a better job, those actors were out there because they're white

  • @alexiscillz Ummm how many damn times do I have to type this? It's because acting is a JOB and through most of hollywood's history, they have given white actors asian roles, sometimes complete with MAKEUP, to make them look east Asian. This all so they can also play out an offensive stereotype, because they think that's what the audience wants to pay money for. For me, A WHITE GUY, I find it insulting, and I'm sure many Asians find it even more insulting.

  • Good video!.

I DO NOT SUPPORT THE LAST AIRBENDER!!

  • Hey, quick question, I myself don't like to take sides or anything on this matter, but aren't Sokka and Katara from the Northern Water Tribe? And last time I heard, the Northern Water Tribe was white. Sokka and Katara's grandma was from the north, and then she came to the south, had kids, all that. So shouldn't they be white? That's why I thought they had it right in the movie...

  • @VineyardsMilkCarton No they are not, their grandmother is and that's it.

  • @VineyardsMilkCarton just to add to Vineyardsmilkcarton, the norther tribe is obviously the same race as the south

  • lol no worries though. While you may be concerned that your children may hit a glassceiling in the movie industry, let it be known that asians excell at other areas, like academics. Your children will probably be high level lawyers or scientists or computer programmers or bankers. So they dont need the acting business to get there, just pure hard work and skills.

If shamalaman or whatever claims that they couldnt find a decent asian, he probably hasnt been scouting at campus sites lmao.

  • @Elbottoo ok...... what about all the kids doing kung fu in forbidden kingdom and karate kid? dont tell me M.NightSHITALONG couldnt call up the guys who did those films and put those kids in there.

  • I am asian and I do feel Noah Ringer played Aang very well. He looks similar to the cartoon Aang and his fighting moves are good. But you got Sokka and Katara right! They don't look like the cartoon and the scene where they stands in front of the Inuit tribe, yup, that's raciest. I still like the movie, but now I know why all the critics are giving this a bad review. The film was good, but the racism was there.

  • @ClaireLe aang doesn't look like noah ringer in ANY WAY other than he's human. look at the character art.

  • @rivengle Well, both are bald. They are both pale. They both have round eyes. It's pretty similar to me.

  • I don't know, I don't think the problem with the film was the actors ethnictiy. Night didn't have the filming spirit of a martial arts director. That to me what was really missing. Katara, Sokka and Aang being "white" wasn't really an issue. Their acting was. Although Aang did alright. Fire nation being Indian instead of Chinese was a little weird. I think that was because Night identified with the Zuko character the most and saw an opportunity to put Indian actors in the film.

  • @kungfooed

Your right. The acting was horrible, the diolouge was awful, the movie was rushed and the editing was bad. But on top of that there was racial bias. I mean "Caucasian Or Other Ethnicity" for casting a East Asian/Inuit inspired show. On top of that they were not good actors. They acted poorly. This fact alone proves just how biased the original casting was.

People of color in the Air Nomads, Earth Kingdom, Southern Water Tribe and Fire Nation to me felt like extreme Tokenism.

  • @DaTruth2024 Of course the acting was going to be horrible. Anyone with a half decent IQ could have figured that one out. Youre talking about kids acting in front of a green screen. They didnt shoot the movie in Greenland or Antartica, you know. Its a fking green screen. So it would have taken a very skilled actor to have pulled it off in the first place. But youre looking at children as main characters. So this movie was destined / bound to go the star wars prequal crap level.

  • @kungfooed That's an understatement, the martial arts scenes that I've seen, (I've seen most of them) are horrible. As far as the race issue, it's a matter of people that look a part not getting the part and losing out to people that are HORRIBLE actors all because the studio thinks that's what Americans like. My girlfriend is in China right now, and she told me NOBODY is seeing this movie over there, yet she and other really like Karate Kid (AKA Kung Fu Dream over there)

  • They took a GREAT American television show inspired by East Asian (Japanese, Chinese, Tibetian) and Inuit/Native American culture with strong and well developed (Asian/Inuit) characters and turned it into a white-washed poorly acted, shitty diolouge movie with Caucasian leads saving people of color from the "awful brown people" (Mof the Fire Nation Extras/Villians are from Arabia, the meditteranean, Southeast Asia, and Polynesia, not just India). And we are in a post 9-11 world here

  • You made me laugh at 02:34

  • There's no doubt in my mind that the EMC monkeys would've been good to cast in this movie. Xin Wuku(Urban Ninja), DY Sao, and there's more asian actors i'm just talkin bout the stuntmen who are tryna get more recognition. As a mutt, i'm offended that the casting called for Caucasian or other ethnicities for Aang and his friends. Shyamalan's stupid and Paramount's racist. Man, I used to love Avatar now this spoiled it. 1/4th of me related to dis show since dey took Static Shock off da air.

  • @Kmayfield344 That's kinda like saying I could punch you really, really hard... but I won't lol Besides, I'm not even sure what you are saying, is "racebending" racist, or is the point I'm making racist? For your last statement, (if it's directed towards me) I'll just say, "yes mommy".

  • Vanilla Ice will be watching Last Airbender with his kids.

  • @VanillaIceBestRapper Enjoy, as of now it has 6% on rotten tomatoes, which makes it one of the worst movies in the last 10 years. To give you an idea, that's worse than Showgirls and the DBZ movie. Have fun with that...

  • If your gonna cast a minority why the hell don't you just cast a Asian/Chinese person instead?! Shamamallandingdong is a racist in my opinion. The whole argument about trying to diversify the film is bullshit. Name a film that has 'diversified' it's characters to accommodate more ethnic groups on the premises of white washing.

  • I'm upset about the casting, but I can't say that I can't understand how old Hollywood thinks.

"Well 80% of Americans are white, so to make them connect to the film, we'll cast white people"

It's a shitty concept but I can somewhat understand it. What I can't understand and pisses me off the most, is that Zuko is played by an Indian! I rather see Jesse McCartney as Zuko!

  • The production has not acknowledged full impact of its actions. While actors of color are present in the film, they are not treated equally. Similar to a restaurant or store that employs people of color in the back room but places people who are white in the storefront, this production’s “diversity” is indicative of a glass ceiling. Glass ceilings with backfilled diversity are not indicative of true diversity.

  • Having a diverse palette of villains and extras is nothing new–Hollywood has upheld this glass ceiling for ages. The three heroic protagonist lead roles were still reserved for white actors. M. Night Shyamalan’s claim of diversity also does not address the production’s repeated culturally incompetent gaffes, including specifically casting for white actors to play the leads, cultural appropriation, and stereotyping (eg: Koreans come in Kimonos.)

  • There is a difference between diversity and equal representation and that this difference must be acknowledged.

  • Love your video and the logical approach you take to get your point across. I can't agree more. I hope plenty of others who watch this, take notice and go watch something else with their hard-earned money or do something else. Thank you.

  • don't just feel sorry for the actors that can't get roles because of this bullshit. We should also feel sorry for the all Asian children that, like all children of color, need positive images in the media that look like them, in order to build better self-esteem. They barely have any Asian heroes in American media. AtLA was one of the few American shows that actually fulfilled this need for them. Now it's gone.

  • @SipherothXIII I agree, I know some Chinese children for example that really like this show because they identify it with their culture, just like how many Asian American children grew up with Goku as their hero only for him to be caste as a white guy in the movie. Talk about giving one big middle finger to the fans of the show. What scares me is that Hollywood may do this because there may be more racist white Americans then Asian Americans... just a thought.

  • @SimKoning

Batman is Chinese. Cause I said so.

  • @SipherothXIII, i think there were only 3 for us ever.

    ATLA

    American Dragon Jake Long

    And Dragon Ball Z

    Not that much.

  • i wonder why m. knight is casting all the main characters white when he's a minority...i expected a different result comeing from him...what a sell out

  • @TheFrank313 Because he is getting paid millions of dollars and he is not in charge of the money, the producers are...

  • @TheFrank313 He did manage to get some Indian actors in there of course, but he fucked the people most of the show is based on... can't have them as the lead unless they are speaking Engrish, can't speak English at all, are half white, or kung fu masters that were fanmous in China for decades before getting American roles with a white or black guy or a partner... god I hate hollywood...

  • There also this mistaken notion that members of some minorities are not racist towards other minorities...

  • @SimKoning i completley agree with you...and yes he got indian and middle eastern people in the movie but they're all bad guys..what do u call that propaganda or the social concious of the american people?..i don't what to call it but all i know is that knight fucked up badly

  • @TheFrank313 Hae you watched the show? Or have you forgotten that Zuko and Iroh are not evil?

  • @AaminaATLA of course i have...but like you said only 2 of them are good, what about the others?

  • @TheFrank313 The Fire Nation isn't evil. The people have grown up listening to lies about the war, about how they were sharing their greatness with the rest of the world. They have been misguided, and we see that in the 3rd season, and hopefully the third film :)

  • @AaminaATLA so does that justify them to kill innocent people?...the same shit is happening in the real world with groups like alqeda and other radicals that brain wash and and teach kids to hate like you said ,but indoing so these kids will uphold their beliefs and will do anything to spread their word by anymeans nessesary for examples' murder' which happens to be evil

  • @TheFrank313 Iroh is a changed man, Zuko has never killed anyone, and not eeryone in the Fire Nation has fought in the war. Not everyone in the Fire Nation is evil.

  • @AaminaATLA true but most are because they believe they are superior which is very similar to the zazis, even german civilians believed this and i'm pretty sure you will agree with me that they were wrong...now if you remember in season 3 when ang and company live in the fire nation they save an old mans who findsout they're not who they say they are..and what does he do?..he sells them out,i dont know about you but he doesn't seem good to me.

  • @TheFrank313 You can't judge an entire race (fictional or not) y one (or more) persons action. That's just wrong.

Look back on all of season 3. Remember all the Fire Nation characters who were good. The students? The people from the town in the middle of the river, Sokkas master, Jong Jong, Mai and Ty Lee.

  • Comment removed

  • @AaminaATLA The students seemed of because they didnt know that aang was the avatar...if they found out they would have gone from friendly to foe in a second. Now the river people is a whole nother thing because they had more things to worry about like poverty so they were busy trying to make ends meat. Also Mai was first against zuko joining the avatar and TyLee was a confused girl trying to find her place in the world and she did that when she joined the kyoishi warriors so she is an exception.

  • @AaminaATLA Master Piandou and Jong Jong are wise characters who know that the war is wrong. If you notice there is only a handful of good characters and thats it. Season 3 of avatar had a theme of showing the firenation as humans not as monsters but you have to admit that these humans are severely flawed because of their ideas.

  • @TheFrank313 Because they've been lied to, and they grew up believing the lies, just like Zuko.

But hopefully, just like Zuko, they will realize that they were wrong and they will change their ways.

  • @AaminaATLA I agree, they were lied to but it still makes them dangerous...maybe when the third movie comes out it will actually show Zuko changing things instead of assuming that great change occured.

  • @TheFrank313 That is exactly what will happen :) He is going to go through so much pain and turmoil, but he will come out of this a true hero!

  • @AaminaATLA I guess we have to wait until part 3 but its worth it since Zuko is my favorite character.Well i had fun with our little debate and i think you were a formidible opponent...we'll have to do this again.

  • @TheFrank313 Likewise :D

  • Yet at the same time middle eastern actors who have it 100 times worse than Chinese/japanese/Korean/etc. actors the current war does not help much and they make up well over half the cast zuko zhao iroh ozai get there main roles and you want to boycott them BRAVO! not to mention princess yue is Spanish suki is filipino entire earth kingdom is east Asian and African american(this nation makes up the entire second movie) BRAVO for boycotting them
  • @Project862006 News flash, they are the bads guys AND most of them are INDIAN or JEWISH, guess what the director is? AND guess what culture the show is based on? Hint, the martial arts are Chinese, the writing is Chinese, the weapons are chinese and there is ONE Indian character in the whole show as a Guru yet ALL the extras are asian/native armerican... bravo!

  • I also never argued against the fact that Hollywood has no problem casting asians and other non-white actors as supporting roles, villains or extras... all you've done is supported my argument.

  • I'm not done yet lol It's so great that the middle eastern actors were all caste as the FIRENATION, you know... THE ENEMY. In the show they were the BY FAR the most white complected people! And the Spanish and Filipino acotors are to be saved by the white stars of the movie... yay!

  • WHITE POWER! I mean...

Hey! Look at the pretty special effects!!.... *runs*
