@drunkard103 i played a 5 string of this exact same model at guitar center yesterday. it weighs more than a les paul... its like 15 pounds... couldnt get this good of a tone with what they had there, but it sounded great.

Okay, i hate to be doing this but doesn't anyone notice that the bass line that's playing in the song around the 2.40minute mark- 3.06 mark don't really 'match' the video?

I mean this song is brilliant and so is this guy but that particular part just throws me off a bit.

Hmm, the thing is that TesseracT are very rhythmical, so the bass - particularly in this track - is filling out that role. That's why the fretboard work isn't necessarily technical, because the song doesn't call for it and it would distract away from the overall sound :)

@TheJakeGames Don't agree at all. Michael is a great solist, and an amazing innovator on the instrument, but the handful of times I've heard him back somebody, he's about as tasteful guacamole on waffles.

Michael Hedges album 'Breakfast in the Field' comes to mind. The tracks Manring plays on that record are borderline unlistenable, exhibitionist fretless work that serves to stroke his ego more than make the song better.

Maybe I'm wrong though. Which record best exemplifies your point?

It may be my opinion that he's awesome but it's a fact the guy demonstrates skill beyond mere competence. I'm a musician, and been professional for close to 18 years now, I'd say if it's just opinion it's an expert opinion :-)

@Schizophaith I've been playing bass for nearly 25 years myself. Don't get me wrong, I think Amos' playing is immaculate, but someone might think he's nowhere near as advanced as Les Claypool for instance. It's a totally different area as far as technique goes but it's a bit harsh to classify someone as a moron simply because they don't like the video :)
