Hey I have a brilliant idea(well about as brilliant as some of those making comments in the comment section). Lets all buy some over sized vehicle to drive by ourselves then race to red lights for no gain in time or distance. Drive in a manner that will give you 25%+ less mileage than EPA estimates with very little if any gain in time saved. Burning fuel needlessly, raising the demand for fuel so the price will go up. Great ingenious idea.

For me, the future is going to be around renevable fuels such as methanol and biodiesel. We have enough water, land and resources to meet demand and also to stop hunger.

@GottfriedvonCramm The future is not biofuels. If America used ALL of their corn crop to make ethanol it would only meet 12% of the fuel demand. Hydrogen fuel cells use the most abundant substance in the universe (hydrogen) and convert it into water (which contains hydrogen. They are as efficient as petrol and are even accepted by by car enthusiasts such as Top Gear and Jay Leno. They are also very clean and require little infrastructure compared to biofuel or even petrol.
@Reu360 You can use just any other vegetable source to produce oil, even hemp! And trust me, there is enough land, water and resources to do it. Brazil covers more than 70% of their internal oil needs with sugar cane ethanol for more than 50 years now. Every single country could do that, including the US. It is not attractive for the oil companies to develop that, but in the future it will be cheaper to do crops than to extract oil from a oil well 20 miles deep in the sea.

With progress made by BMW and Toyota it won't be long before the need of platinum is is eliminated. Also, petrol is very very dangerous, hydrogen is the most abundant gas in the universe, it is even in water. Hydrogen is not as dangerous as people make it out to be.
How is petrol dangerous? We should use it all up before moving onto to a different energy source. Environmentally speaking, the carbon-output/emission argument is one huge fallacy. Humans and our creations don't account for enough of the carbon-output to even be a debatable factor.

My desire to have more hydrogen fuel cell vehicles has nothing to do with the environment. My problem is paying $4 for a gallon of gas. By switching to hydrogen, hopefully we will reduce fuel prices. And, to add to what you said, plants convert CO2 into oxygen, CO2 helps plants, not hurts them.

The more arable land you use the more costly food becomes. Sugarcane is also 7 times more efficient than corn but the U.S can't grow sugarcane at a high enough rate to make any difference. Even if we could you still need to blend it with regular gas. Finally, why should I trust you that there is enough land and resources?

Have you got one of it blowing up? The Prius is 20 years behind in terms of technology, Toyota stayed stuck in the past. Everyone else moved on. BMW did hydrogen, GM/Vauxhall did LPG for UK and Ethanol for Brazil, others use diesel. A diesel turbo is much more effective and economical AND cheaper to tax, insure and run in the UK. Hybrids are expensive, don't give any saving and the batteries cost more than the car to replace. Stick with TDI for performance AND economy.

And I am a bit of a car person, have had three Jags XJ40 / XType 4WD / SType, Mercedes, MGZT and several others. For me I commute 136ks per day around 3000ks per month and the fuel cost where I am is $217.9 per litre - saves over $400 permonth - and the commute is mostly 80kph with 20+ks crawling into the city at under 20kph Again it's some drivers being inconsiderate. We have been using NiMH batteries in many items for many years, the good news is that as technology grows there will be better, safer and more powerful batteries (Prius and other Hybrids are just the start to help evolve the technology - and you have to start somewhere) and if owners show due diligence they will recycle the battery. "NiMH yields the best return. It produces enough Nickel to pay for the process.

Last time I checked, Honda doesn't currently offer a hybrid accord, a decent truck (which the ridgeline is not), a hybrid Pilot, or a full size SUV. Most (if not all) car makers are behind in some areas.

They are as efficient as petrol and are even accepted by by car enthusiasts such as Top Gear and Jay Leno. They are also very clean and require little infrastructure compared to biofuel or even petrol.

@Reu360 You can use just any other vegetable source to produce oil, even hemp! And trust me, there is enough land, water and resources to do it. Brazil covers more than 70% of their internal oil needs with sugar cane ethanol for more than 50 years now. Every single country could do that, including the US. It is not attractive for the oil companies to develop that, but in the future it will be cheaper to do crops than to extract oil from a oil well 20 miles deep in the sea.

Hydrogen is a very unstable gas, very very dangerous. You wouldnt survive a collision, and so 20 other cars around yours.

With progress made by BMW and Toyota it won't be long before the need of platinum is is eliminated. Also, petrol is very very dangerous, hydrogen is the most abundant gas in the universe, it is even in water. Hydrogen is not as dangerous as people make it out to be.

The person I was commenting to was saying that hydrogen is dangerous and that using it in cars is like driving around a bomb. My desire to have more hydrogen fuel cell vehicles has nothing to do with the environment. My problem is paying $4 for a gallon of gas. By switching to hydrogen, hopefully we will reduce fuel prices. And, to add to what you said, plants convert CO2 into oxygen, CO2 helps plants, not hurts them.

@GottfriedvonCramm Just because one thing works in one place does not mean it will work everywhere. Brazil uses 1% of their arable land to produce ethanol. The U.S. uses 3.7%. The more arable land you use the more costly food becomes. Sugarcane is also 7 times more efficient than corn but the U.S can't grow sugarcane at a high enough rate to make any difference. Even if we could you still need to blend it with regular gas. Finally, why should I trust you that there is enough land and resources?

Have you got one of it blowing up? The Prius is 20 years behind in terms of technology, Toyota stayed stuck in the past. Everyone else moved on. BMW did hydrogen, GM/Vauxhall did LPG for UK and Ethanol for Brazil, others use diesel. A diesel turbo is much more effective and economical AND cheaper to tax, insure and run in the UK. Hybrids are expensive, don't give any saving and the batteries cost more than the car to replace. Stick with TDI for performance AND economy.

The Focus gives 50MPG in town and 70+ MPG on the motorway at 70MPH. The focus costs a third of what the Prius does to insure, and to service at approved dealerships. 0-60 in 10s and 115MPH, plus low road tax. Why DOES anyone buy a Prius? 31MPG in the town, costs a fortune to service and runs for a mile on batteries!!!

And I am a bit of a car person, have had three Jags XJ40 / XType 4WD / SType, Mercedes, MGZT and several others. For me I commute 136ks per day around 3000ks per month and the fuel cost where I am is $217.9 per litre - saves over $400 permonth - and the commute is mostly 80kph with 20+ks crawling into the city at under 20kph Again it's some drivers being inconsiderate. We have been using NiMH batteries in many items for many years, the good news is that as technology grows there will be better, safer and more powerful batteries (Prius and other Hybrids are just the start to help evolve the technology - and you have to start somewhere) and if owners show due diligence they will recycle the battery. "NiMH yields the best return. It produces enough Nickel to pay for the process.

The only reason Toyota's sales are higher than Ford is because Toyota owners for some stupid reason want to replace there car every few years (I wonder why, problems perhaps...). The sulfur ppm in diesels has been drastically lowered... the diesels are made to run cleaner... and the black smoke is just regular smoke with "wax" which is really just unburnt fuel, which settles to the ground and is not a pollutant. all in all... your duramax pollutes the same as a Prius, if not, less. lol

That makes them plasticky and slow, with vague and numb steering, gas, and brakes. People only like Toyotas because they're affordable, but once you get a decent car, you'll never go back.
