  • Hey guys! Loook my daddy bought me new keyboard and a laptop so i decided to show how great it looks on my desk!

Tho i didnt want you just to watch it silently i decided to talk a little about MIDI, even if all i know about it is what this abreavation stands for.

  • GOD BLESS...U

  • So I can't plug my skype/gaming headset in my pc and just press record? Cause that would be swell.

  • Obviously this guy is no expert. MIDI contains no audio information. It is basically a language that allows computers and MIDI hardware & devices to communicate with each other.

Audio interfaces are for recording and playback of higher quality audio than nearly all built-in audio interfaces in computers. Almost all audio interfaces also have a MIDI interface built in it for an all in one solution as well.

  • i have that lamp

  • @angie4josh fuckwit?? the guy didnt do anything to you

  • @11033066099 sry I didn't realize you were butt buddies with him.

  • This is not an altogether bad tutorial as it seems to be very simplistic, you know, just give the basics of the basics. But it might put a smile on a face of those, who know these things.

  • Midi doesn't send musical information to your computer, it just sends information on which note of the software instrument should be pressed. Also, you don't need an audio interface, you need a midi interface (some are combined). On your audio interfaced the midi jacks aren't plugged in, only the line in jacks, so I don't know what you're using, but this isn't how midi works.

  • @dergster Most laptops uses only software based synth like MS GS Wavetable SW Synth to process MIDI information. In using midi sequencing software, this software synths produces high latency responses approx 250ms and its definitely not good.

Audio interface devices like Edirol UA-25EX is not only for audio. It has also MIDI I/O ports and a built-in synth module where it communicates with the laptop thru USB. Hence, this setup is ideal since it eliminates the high latency issue.

  • is that a joke?!

  • MIDI signal is NOT audiodata. It tells Cubase what keys you have struck, the volume, the attack etc etc, but not sound.

To transfer MIDI data to your computer, you don't need an audio interface - you just need a midi-interface. Many computers dont have that, but many midi-keyboards nowadays have an USB-interface instead of a midiinterface.

If you want to record audio (i.e. guitar, vocals and other acoustic instruments) you WILL need an audiointerface

  • @mads1072 if I buy a usb mic and a usb keyboard, do I need an interface still? or does the usb cables work directly into my laptop? thanks

  • @ssssssspps i bought a usb uno cable and it plugs right into my computer and transfers fast, expensive though, $40 at guitar center

  • interface for lap top lol tht interface work on a disk top to lmao there is no they dont make inteface for lap only or disktop its the same thang

  • i have a mpc 1000 drum machine and a casio ctk 5000 keyboard and i want use both of them but my keyboard has no midi ports how do i sync both of them 2gather do i need the interface?

  • Hey. Thanks for helping out. I 've got a laptop and cubase 5 and a keyboard that has a MIDI switch. So it seems I'm missing the midi audio interface. But I've just bought a midi to USB cable thinking it would be suffiecient. Is that redundant now or am i going to use it with the midi controller ? Thanks. :-)

  • I have a midi keyboard, do I have to use that audio interface?

  • pretty good info

  • smoke weed everyday

  • Really? "A byte is not a binary"? I can't believe it! This fellow makes a helpful video about MIDI recording and that's all you have to say?... and you get 5 thumbs-ups? Why are so many people on YouTube so negative and vicious. Personally, I'm very pleased with this video and thank expertvillage for posting it. By the way, I have that same TASCAM MIDI/Audio USB interface in my own studio.

  • Finally someone that takes their time to explain something clearly. No 10 second announcer doing a You Tube Video. Thanx Expert Village.

  • pp

  • Would have of you fuck faces shut the fuck up. If you don't like the video there's like, a million more to watch. Stop fucking complaining, especially if you sat your ass here and watched the entire video. Ignorant fucks. It's not like you know what the hell to do, if so, you wouldn't be watching and talking shit, you'de be fucking recording.

  • @harrysimply same problem here

if found a way please tell me

  • ma'am i only have a mixer and a computer with a cool edit installed, would that be enough to record a music?

  • nonetheless this video was informational! some people need to learn about the basics, so thanks and the presenter is kinda cute xD

  • i'm guessing he didn't have a USB midi keyboard

  • I think they told him they'll put the audio on in post production later but did not do it. I don't think this guys really thought it was okay for the sound to only be in his headphones. But expertvillage very often put out unedited video - I've seen uncut videos with people doing several takes and it is put out like an end user product which is really weird.

  • LOL hes n@@b

  • to translate the midi to bytes?

    lol

    translate: "Mididimidimididimimididi" to "01001010110100101010101010110101001010101"

    wow that's cool

  • A byte is not a binary.

  • I need help!

    I just got a E-MU 0202 and I can't figure out how to use it. :(

I'm not sure about the whole "MIDI input" stuff... Do I like need a sound card or something? I'm so very confused. Please help!

  • Did you go to San Jose Job Corps?

  • hi. I watched your video re "Setting Up MIDI Connections or Daisy Chain" and i understood that i must connect the Midi IN & Midi OUT of my midi keyboard with respectively the Midi OUT & Midi IN of my USB Interface. However in your above video I noticed that you have also connected 2 cables in the Line IN (R) & Line IN (L) of your USB Interface. What are these connections for?? unless i am mistaken. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • what i've heard, you need also 2 audio cables from your keyboard to the tascam:

So you need a cable to get from midi in/out (keyboard) to midi in/out (tascam) en you need an audio cable to get from you keyboard to the tascam! Than you can record also the sound of the keyboard!
