Im a teenager and ive been looking to build a car with a friend. (I own an old mercedes lol so its for the experience) but anyway, how cheap could I make a car like this? One with like 100hp or less and everything really basic?
@heatedhonda1 How long is a piece of string? If you can do most of the fabrication of custom components yourself (welding, machining, painting and elecs probably being the biggest) then you can cut out a lot of the cost of the build however for the amount of hours you put into it versus the 5-10k "profit" of cost to build vs sale you won't be able to feed yourself. It's really something you do for fun not profit
what is it and what country are you in? im just getting all the parts together for my saab 2.3 turbo install starting on the standard 220hp and when i get braver or stupider ill have it mapped for 300hp+
We kept the standard intake to get through the registration process. The plan is to later move to an aftermarket ecu with a MAP sensor and do away with the AFM arrangement. This will allow use to redesign the intake tract and pick up from the nosecone.
UM, YOU PUT THE STEERING WHEEL ON THE WRONG SIDE. HAHA. NICE CAR. WE JUST FINISHED BUILDING ONE WITH THE 3.8 SUPERCHARGED ENGINE IN IT. ITS ALOT OF FUN AND VERY QUICK

hey mate, are you Aussie? I'm looking at building one of these in the next year or so too, but trying to get as much info as I can. I've heard can't get these registered with 4ag engines anymore? I'm actually looking at using an alloytec v6 from a VZ commie on anyway, but I'm not sure who to talk to about getting help with designing a suitably strong chassis. Got any advice?
@MrPLZ818 As a matter of fact we've finally broken through all the red tape and it was finally registered yesterday. It looks a fair bit different now though with guards and lights etc.
@jkvsnn WOW really! could i grab ur email address off you i am thinking about building one of theses kit cars and would love some input from some one that has done it :)
@Bertziethegreat HA, I have caught lots of flack for the thought of cannibalizing a corvette. But I think it will make a nice mean machine when I am finished.
there's a lot of variables in cost but if it was just a strict trackcar (ie. not road registered) then fairly cheap as long as you did the work yourself. The chassis is fairly basic (a couple of hundred dollars to do yourself) Then its just the cost of drivetrain, suspension, wheels/tyres etc.
only way I see a need for side exhaust, is if they needed a larger diameter pipe because of forced induction. If that were the case, I could see the conventional spot for the exhaust being too small hence the need for a side exhaust. other than that, i personally don't see why. like i said in my last comment, it doesn't really strike me as my style.
That perticular side exhuast isnt the great IMHO. Get a set of purple hornies or similar and maybe that car could pull it off. ITs a great peice of engineering otherwise. Keep up the good work.
I would use whatever IRS and diff from the same car you got the engine from. That way, you know they are made to work together and that it can handle the power. I am trying to build a locost out of different manufacturers parts, and now i wish I had taken all my parts from the same manufacturer. Just some advice. Good luck.
That is the most beautifully proportioned Locost I've seen, leaving the fender flares on the back off makes it look beautiful. What plans did you use, Ron Champion's book plans, McSorley plans of some sort? Just curious.
Nice engine choice. I love the 4AGE20v. I heard they are a little tricky to modify (expensive too). But with the size of the 7 you're probably making more than enough power.
Upgrade parts are probably not as plentiful as say for the B16 but they're around. They respond pretty well to a lot more ignition advance through the use of an aftermarket ECU. But yeah, the 7 goes pretty well :)

@3593893 You..... you're gonna kill a corvette to make one of these?!?! Don't get me wrong, the locost is cool, but killing a corvette cool?!

@Bertziethegreat - Yes
3593893 1 year ago
@3593893 Is the vette at least reasonably dead already?
Bertziethegreat 1 year ago
@Bertziethegreat It fell off of a truck and crushed the roof section and did damage to the body. But I dont need any of that. 2009 Model

@3593893 That's okay then. I was afraid you were sacrificing a perfectly good corvette.

Man that is a great looking 7. Looks quite low. Which frame did you use for your build ?
3593893 1 year ago
@3593893 It's based on the Locost book chassis but with a few more diagonals and 100mm wider too.

FU. Anonymous shit talker on the web. What have you ever built? Probably nothing. Take your weak ass 15 y/o attitude somewhere else.

Well.. That just might be the point with the car.. To build a copy of the 7.. It would be kinda hard to build the original Lotus Super 7....

i love those kit cars, but I hate the side exhaust, just my own pet peeve.
bastec666 2 years ago
I agree, it seems like the side exhaust would add an exceptional amount of weight to an otherwise feather-light car.
Then again, for all I know the exhaust could be THAT GOOD as to be worth the extra weight.
Beautiful project all the same! what a color!

Beautiful color choice. What engine is that? How did you get those big wide seats in that narrow little car? What is that car about 42" wide?
chetcpo 3 years ago
The engine is a 4AGE 20V from a JDM Toyota Corolla Trueno. When stock about 150hp, 8200RPM and bullet proof.
The seats were made narrow for us by the manufacturer, only just fit.
I can't honestly recall what the total width is.
PS. The colour is Subaru WRX blue, the painter did a fantastic job, car is now finished with rear guards and everything done...Looks great!
