  • Creativity is an innate ability, her art is amazing ! this has nothing to do with marketing!

  • Over the centries it's sad the way mentally disabled people were kept in institutions. A lot of these people are savants! Very talented, and productive indivisuals, who were and still today aren't allowed to function the way they're meant too.

  • Outsider art tends to be more facinating and honest than more "educated" expressions. Look at Henry Darger too, just like Judith Scott he`s speaking a different tongue all together.

  • whether you consider outsider art as proper art or not, you have to be pleased that she is able to use her work as a catharsis and a way to keep going in what is obviously a very hard and frustrating life.

  • Honestly, I couldn't disagree on the use for marketing, but I think the fact remains that she is inspirational.

And no, Outsider Art requires no focus whatsoever.

Research the term before making such a comment.

  • art

    noun

    1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

  • Having watched a much longer documentary about the artist, I am convinced that she actually plans quite thoroughly because she spends a long time gathering the objects she wants to wrap before she starts wrapping them.

  • Judith Scott's work is popular because she has Down Syndrome. Someone saw an opportunity to promote her work because of her disability. This become a new angle of marketing.

Now having seen her video, and watching her go through the process and development of these sculptures, I can say that she has no focus or plan on what she's doing.

If you watch her work ,you can see her mind wandering away. Even in Abstract Expressionism, the artist becomes intuitive and remains focused on the work.

  • u go mfot!

don't actually agree but the way you put it and that you put it at all is good enough for me

  • @mfot6 focus or not or wandering mind or state of transe who knows i most certainly know you dont i know one thing it is her doing it and not you weathe or not se is just moving her arms doing this with her eyes closed is neither here nor there she is doing you are not

  • having no focus or plan is what it makes outsider art, it what defines it. I agree on the marketing idea though, but don't confuse art and outsider art

  • @mfot6 That's ridiculous. There is plenty of forethought in the selection of materials and in the composition.

The idea that artists remain entirely focused on their work (especially fiber artists) is silly. You probably spend eight hours a day at a work place, but I doubt you're focused the entire time. There are moments in creating art that are not "intuitive". There are boring moments when you need to paint bases or create structure through repetition (like knot tying). The mind wanders

  • @mfot6 You sound like your jealous.

  • Tanta gente en el mundo sin grades problemas y que su creatividad sólo se reduce a crear guerras y peleas por cosas que no tienen ningún valor y que afectan negativamente a la mayor parte de los pobladores de este planeta

  • I did not know about her. But it is amazing her creativity. there is so many people with all their senses and creativity only to invent wars. Just look around!!!!

  • ART.

  • Incredible story...incredible artist...incredible art!

  • Cuanta ternura hay en esta persona.

  • I like it, it reminds me of my cacoons of horror.

  • wow i love the snail!
