The song was composed by Tony Macaulay - one of the greatest British songwriters ever - and former Seeker Keith Potger. Tony's penned 6 British chart-toppers and won 9 Ivor Novello awards, so why isn't he an OBE yet? I know he resides mainly in the US nowadays; but so does Albert Hammond, who was (rightly) made an OBE.
Takes me back to 10 years old... I distinctly remember this song. On a saturday morning, reading the weekly comics, hile we lived in Wales for a year and a half, near Chester. I liked it back then... but never knew what they looked like.
Have to laugh. The girls are cute, but Duane Eddy is quite a poseur. The look in his eye says 'He knows he is good'...
Good tune nevertheless, and takes be back to my childhood.
I agree with potaluca's statement. The 60's, a difficult era to beat.
This fantastic song is one of only two records to be creditted to a male artist, but to contain only female vocals. The other is Mike Oldfield's 'Moonlight Shadow'
@giftednumber10 Good try and thanks for making me sit up and worry!! I almost had to stand corrected, but on having listened to the song again, I could hear male vocals in the background during some parts. The vocals were indeed predominantly female, but on the other two songs they were exclusively female. Yes, I need to get out more.
@DAVETIGHTFIT Thanks for mentioning this. After I read it I looked up Moonlight Shdow on YouTube and played it. I hadn't heard it in years and had quite forgotten it so thanks for jogging my memory.
Excellent stuff! Just that I'd check out some Duane Eddy and came across this. Looking at the date, it is EXACTLY 35 years ago!! (Today is 13th March 2010)
Wonderful guitar sound and the backing singers are superb. I know they are called the Rebelettes but I read somewhere that they were actually The Blossoms - anyone confirm this? TIA!
Different unique track from duane eddy.I like the retro-ness of it,with the girl backing singers and slow and catchy melody. Its great! I like noel edmunds is suit too its class. The comment below with long impressive wording, giving a brief news reel of 1975, is needing to make an impression to fulfil whose needs, or is fishing for compliments for who I wonder!!! Young man wake up! Benja :-)

Much like the first song on this TOTP, this is an exhausted parody of something that once *seemed* genuinely revolutionary, the originally insurrectionary turned into a desperate, worn-out soundtrack for the slow sleepwalk into neoliberalism, a bland backdrop to union-bashing which set the tone for all that rock is today.
1975 was a very transitional year in music and culture, very sucky in many ways at the time...but now I'd go back to 1975 in a second witout a second thought!

@EddyPop100 - it's Billy Livsey, who has also backed many other stars such as Tina Turner, Kenny Rogers and Gallagher & Lyle.

But then this is 1975. Should we be surprised?
